Re: Proposal stories

The proposal was sort of a surprise for me, but totally unique and something I will remember forever.

Our first date was at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a place we like to go often, so that is where we went that day. Except after we got our tickets and such, he handed me a piece of paper with a series of clues. (A little background: I am a total geek and love puzzles and scavenger hunts.)  He had created a scavenger hunt just for me through our favorite parts of the museum!

But was that the HARDEST scavenger hunt I have ever been on! Seriously, the clues were hard as anything! I had to get the answer from him a few times. I couldn't find some of the pieces of art I needed to fill in the blanks!

My hunt ended in the Temple of Dendur (if you're familiar with the Met, its the sandstone temple that is reconstructed inside the museum: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Dendur)

There I got to unscramble the letters from the clues, which spelled out "WIll You Marry Me". (It's very difficult to write when you're crying, btw.) And as I looked up, he was on one knee with the ring.

As they say, the rest is history...

Raangoli, such a beautiful story!! how cute and fun :)

Our proposal story is on my website.  Our story short-I had sneaked into FI's email to find out when he was going to propose, couldnt wait to get the ring I guess lol. FI had been planning the proposal at this nearby gazebo where we use to run by the river, he had his friend tape the location as to where to hide and all that lol. FI found out I knew it will be soon thru my gf who I was keeping in loop, she spilled the beans and told him the truth. So he sent out mock emails to his friends saying it wasnt going to happen because he wasnt able to get the date off..I totally bought it!! I was so bummed and upset..that wkd my friend who been wanting to upgrade his wifes ring called me and told me to meet them at the museum so we can go together to the jeweler again ( I love going ring shopping with my friends anyday lol) As my friend was talking to me while we were overlooking the boathouse row, here came FI from behind I was totally shocked and surprised..he recited a poem he had written while he slipped the ring on my finger. :)

We have two proposal stories - his proposal and mine. Technically there were two proposals from him, but he says the first "doesn't count" because it isnt' how he wanted to do it. The first time, we were in the car at the bank and he just blurted it out.

The "real" proposal went like this:

We had just gotten back from breakfast with a friend of ours. He was on the computer looking for Magic cards, and Jess and I were sitting on the bed talking. I told her she had to see the ring because it was beautiful (I picked it myself, after all). She agreed, so when he got off the computer I told him she wanted to see the ring. He knelt on the floor to get the box out of his drawer, pulled the ring out and started to show her. Then he said, "Well, actually, it'd probably look better this way."

He took the amber ring off my right ring finger and started to ask. I stopped him. "Honey, that's my right hand," I said.

"OH!" He put the amber ring back on my right hand, took my left hand and looked at me. "You will, won't you?"

I didn't even have the time to register the shock - I knew a proposal was coming, but I didn't know when - before I said, "Of course I will!" He put the ring on the correct ring finger and Jess all but burst into happy tears. (I, however, spent the whole afternoon with a silly grin on my face.)

He wanted an engagement ring, so I bought him one. I proposed back to him a month later on December 17, 2009. I was planning on waiting till the 18th and doing it at his Magic tournament because I wasn't expecting his ring to arrive until the day before Christmas, but when I got home on the 17th his ring had arrived. He was with me, and he had his cards with him. I carefully hid the package and the proposal card I had made in my room and waited.

He had started sorting out his deck, but I needed to frost a cake, so he took Kidlet to the other room to watch TV. I took advantage of that and grabbed the card from my room. I snuck it into the deck, somewhere middle-ish, and went back to the cake.

It was another half hour before he discovered it. Kidlet was playing with a toy piano in his high chair and I was scraping the frosting off the cake because it was terribly runny and kept sliding off the edges (I can bake. I can't make frosting.) FI was sorting his cards, with the cards making their usual slap noise on the table. It got quiet suddenly, and I looked up from my spatula to see him reading the card.

"Oh, good, you found it," I said. He finished reading, gave a little laugh, got up and tackled me into the fridge. I gave him the ring and more hugs and kisses and such ensued.

    Cuuuuuute!

I feel like I'd flip out. Totally cry. I am a crier. He turns into a puddle when it comes to me, too, so, we'd both be a royal mess.

I was *horribly* impatient while waiting for the proposal. I knew it was coming, just not when. We'd picked the ring in April 09, and he didn't propose till November! Even then I had to wait. I knew he was planning to propose on our anniversary (Nov 2 - he spent too much time telling me he was NOT going to do it then and I figured it out), but my parents botched his plans by announcing their separation on Nov 1. So I didn't get the big romantic proposal he had originally planned and part of me was very sad over that at first (not to mention pissed at my parents for ruining my anniversary by making me cry half the day and ruining FI's plans), but the proposal I got was just as genuine and loving as a more romantic one would have been, so I can't really compain.
