Ha. Jay goes "oooh if they only knew."

Bel, are you a Cedric fan? And OMG when we went to see HBP there was some dude, at least in his 40s, dressed like Hedwig. Like, a huge stuffed white owl suit. I was dying laughing at him trying to get into the seat.

    Pics or it didn't happen.

I'm seriously contemplating getting "expecto patronum" or "expelliarmus" put on my foot, I have the perfect font and everything.

I have a handmade wand. It's pretty fucking awesome.

*Edit* Like, wood, turned on a lathe with scroll work. I worked at a summer program when the 5th or 6th one came out and this girls dad made a bunch for us.

I was into Ced in the books. And I was even in RPatz when he was Cedric. But I'm not as much of a fan now that he's Edward as well.

I looked up my Celtic birth month tree to make sure my wand was the correct wood.

I think you might win. Although the tattoo is pretty serious.

You guys are a million times more hardcore than I am. I feel shamed.
  • Alix-- You are totally hardcore. That's insane!

I was like, one of the first hundred people in Boston to get the book. I pre-reserved it from the Harvard Co-op and started waiting in line at 2pm. My friends and I took turns and we even went into a few bars and got butterbeer (beer with a shot of butterscotch schnapps). SO GOOD.

  • I am notoriously spoiler free... even though I've read the books a zillion times.

Anyway, I was watching Huge on ABCFamily... I leave to get a snack and come back into the room and it's that same scene that two people have accidentally shown me today....
something like.. it looks like Voldemort in the cave with his back turned or something. I dunno, but it's towards the beginning.

Three times I've seen the same scene over and over again. It's like a conspiracy going on... no one wants me to succeed at being spoiler free! :(

  • Fun fact; because I definitely can come across as a girlie-girl. I'm a FIEND with a woodlathe, it's one of the most calming, fun things to do I think. I like metal lathes too but you're not as in touch with what you're creating (for obvious reasons), but OMG I love playing about on a lathe.

When it's finished I shall send you pics. Promise! It's part of my birthday present from H. I luff him.
  • Yaaay! Can't wait to see 'em!

  • I love HP!!!!  I can't wait for it to come out!  When DH came out on book I ended up getting it right after midnight by coincidence.  A friend of mine was getting married and since I was OOT she offered to let me sleep at her parents' house the night before the wedding and as we were on the way home from the rehearsal she realized from forgot something she needed so we stopped at a Wal-Mart type store (can't remember what store it actually was) and while she was picking up what she needed I grabbed my copy of DH.  There were a lot of people dressed in costume.  The next morning while everyone was out getting their hair done and what not I read my HP book.  I was a good 100-200 pages into by the time I needed to put it down to get ready myself.
  • Wow, and I was impressed by having my ex-husband stand in line for me at the bookstore so I could study in the car until 10 minutes before midnight, and then I came in and traded places with him so I could "experience" it. I had one of my Praxis tests the next day. I put the book in the trunk, and it was my reward for finishing that test.
This would have been between 2002 - 2004.

J's seen one with me, and he'll go see these, because I think he secretly likes them. I'd started reading them out loud to him, but that takes too long.

I actually saw the first movie before I ever read a book, and THEN got hooked on the books. I'm not sure that's ever happened before.

I love you Missy. Even though you are not smart enough to take online quizzes to find out really important information. ~cew
  • I got it at midnight too!

Then I skived off work the next day (I believe it was a Sunday) and blew through it in about four hours. Then I read it again, as soon as I'd hit the "All was well." in the epilogue - only this time slower, because I didn't HAVE to see how it ended anymore. Embarassed

  • I did the same thing Alix, except I couldn't call into work. I was up all night, worked all day, napped and was up all night reading again.

I pirated the Book on tape and put it on my Ipod. I played DH all semester when Iw as in the darkroom. That was a nice way to zone out.

  • I had to drive to SC from KY the day after the wedding and all I could think about the whole way home was "damn I need to get home so I can finish this book!"

I didn't start reading HP until 2001.  My sister got me started and I was hooked.  I dislike snakes so it took me a couple tries to get past the opening chapter of GOF because Nagini freaked me out.  I finished it just in time for OOTP (my favorite of the books) to come out.

There's always a difference between when you speed read it to get through it, and when you go back and re-read and connect all the dots and appreciate the thought behind everything.

  • Order of the Phoenix is my favourite too, hands down. Closely followed by Deathly Hallows.

(I never count book one in a series I love because it would always win because it "introduced" me, if that makes sense).

    What's everyone's fave?

It's between OOTP and DH. OOTP was too...whiny for me. I mean, I can appreciate WHY, but I was kind of annoyed when I was reading it. But damn they were both such great books.

My fave is OOTP. Which I know isn't a popular choice because Harry is all teen angst-y. I know a lot of people can't stand reading it because of his attitude. But it was definitely my favorite, probably followed by DH.

As far as movies, I don't really have a favorite. Maybe GOF. But I can't STAND POA. When they do the time turner, all I can think is "Ugh, this movie is so terrible and I have to sit through it again." The whole "King of the World" scene on the Hippogriff and the ending are the kiss of death.

And to AW: I just baked my first successful batch of macarons! It took me three tries, but they're worth it.

  • Favorite is Prisoner of Azkaban. I think that's the turning point in the series when you really start to see the story and characters start to mature. Also, I love Lupin and Sirius. Deathly Hallows is a close second.

Order of the Phoenix is my favorite book from the series by far.

  • I don't know that I have a favorite movie, but POA probably comes close.  I always get pissed off when something happens differently in the movie versus the book.  I would've liked POA better had they NOT left out the entire storyline of Gryffindor winning the Quidditch Cup.
  • Ugh, I have to go. I want to stay here and talk HP for the rest of the night. Boooo!
  • Who's everyone's favorite character?

The summer that OOTP came out I volunteered for a week at church camp and my campers & I assigned all the HP characters to a specific person at camp that week.

    I cannot pick just one.

I love Harry most; obviously. But I also love Sirius, Lupin, Bellatrix, Hermione, Minerva and Snape. And Dumbledore when I picture him as Richard Harris.

I've often tried to think what my patronus or animagus would be. I can't decide.
