Pregzilla! (Not mutley related. Mutley is just fine by me.)

My cousin's wife is having a baby.  They live in South Dakota so we're sending her a gift in the mail for her baby shower.  My sister was working really hard crocheting some baby booties and a blanket (she's very good and they were VERY cute) for her.  When we got the invitation, however, she wrote in all caps "GIFT CARDS ONLY."

Sister decided to send them anyway, and my mom and I would send a gift card, even though we all rolled our eyes.

THE GIRL SENT THEM BACK.  Sent them back! Said that she didn't think they went with her decor and that's why she asked for gift cards only.

WTF, mate?

ETA: Here's a crappy cell phone pic of the booties. I think they're just adorable and I can't understand why they wouldn't match anything...

My jaw hit the floor when I read this.  I wouldn't send anything then.  Screw her.  That is beyond rude.

I know! The reason she decided to do that is that it is kind of a tradition in our family for the great grandmother to make the babies handmade booties.  My great grandmother made some for both my sister and I and our cousins.  My grandma died before any of the greatgrandbabies were born, and my sister is the only one who knows how to crochet, so she thought it would be a nice gesture if she made them for her.

Save them for someone who would appreciate it the most. I personally hope that the home made gifts come out of hiding when it does come time for me to make that step. I   started to re teach  myself how to crochet so that I could start making gifts again. My family declared it an all home made gifts Christmas this year (happens every other year)what kind of family background does she come from?

I think she's close to her family, but I don't know if they do homemade stuff.  We really don't know her that well, but we care about our cousin so we try to treat her like she's part of the family.

What an ungrateful little (TK inappropriate)!!!

Did you send the giftcard yet? How about send her a giftcard to a restaurant they don't have near them. They said giftcard and it's not your fault you "didn't know" they don't have that restaurant in SD.

You have to acitvate them at the register..I didn't know that! Or give just enough to buy some booties that match her decor. $3.95 should do it, she can pay the tax.

I'm going with the card but no giftcard route- polite but fitting for a brat who doesn't accept personal gifts.  Seriously, that's the rudest thing I've heard in a long, long time!

I'm pretty sure I have an empty walmart card hanging around somewhere, ekath. ;)  Just add a little note "we didn't know how much money would match your expectations, so we figured we would just let you fill it up on your own. :D"

Those are adorable.  You can send them my way.

I don't see how booties would not match someone's decor.  If she had knitted the baby some curtains, then I could see the issue.  (I still would have kept the knitted curtains and sent a thank you card, whilst thinking why the eff would someone knit curtains.)  That girl is just a biatch.  I actually do feel sorry for her baby and your cousin.  Does your cousin know about this incident?  I would definitely be making sure that someone in the family 'accidentally' brings it up to him.

I got some items that weren't 'my' style at my baby shower yesterday.  However, you still say "Thank you" and move on.  It think even more so when it is a gift that someoe took the time to make.  Luckily, I got 3 gorgeous blankets that women made for Mr. Man.  Plus the most ridiculously cute little sweater and hat with our last name initial on them.

Wow. That makes me really sad. It's so incredibly rude and I can't imagine the expectations she'll have for her poor kid.

"Sorry, Timmy, but your macaroni art just doesn't go with my decor. I'm just going to throw it away and ask the teacher to give us the money she'd have spent on art supplies so we can buy something more color-coordinated from Pottery Barn."

    Tomorrow!

DH just got home from his fishing trip.  My mom is still here.  And we are leaving for dinner at the in-laws in about 35 minutes.  I just hopped on here while he is defunkifying and my mom is crocheting.

Thanks friends. My sister just went into a baby knitting frenzy out of it.  She's made a sweater and little baby sandals since then. I think she's decided she's going to sell them.

I think my cousin knows, but I think he's too much of a wuss to say anything negative to her.

I like this idea.  This is the appropriate response to a lot of life's problems.

The shoes are super cute- your sister did a great job!  Your cousin's wife is crazy and she doesn't deserve them.

I don't know what's wrong with her. She is going to "theme" dress her baby at all times. WTF? Dumbest thing ever. Just seeing those makes my lady parts say, BABY.

Seriously, she's a douche, I hope she poops herself when she gives birth.
