Im of full belief that your relationship wont get very far at all. Neither of you know who you are without the other person and both of you are willing to enter a commitment that you know full well isnt wanted by the both of you. Youre both settling and its sad. Maybe you will be together for the rest of your lives, but I predict you wont be happy, feel successful in your relationship, and I definitely foresee cheating. And my God whatever you do, dont have children unless youre both 100% for it.
Marriage to you two means nothing but cheaper insurance and that has NOTHING to do with your religion. Dont hide behind it, its pathetic.

But yes, you are right. You do have different views. We believe in the sanctity of marriage, and not using the system. No one here is going to validate you.

I think this might be why she mentioned her religion because not all marriages are in the eyes of God, I know mine certainly wasn't as I'm agnostic.
But having the whole big day does seem a little odd for the situation. If he's not really into the whole big production and you don't seem to be either, why bother with it. And if it's just for the benefits, so be it. Do they still have common-law marriages anymore because being together for so long may entitle you to insurance and other benefits without having to elope or do a ceremony.
