Do you like your name? Did you ever want to be named something else at any point in your life?
If you could rename yourself now- what would it be?
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be?
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names?
Re: S/O: Names...Love them, Hate them, Share them?
I don't know what I would rename myself if I could. I think I'm a "Bri." Oh, and if anyone was curious Bri = Bree, not Bry. :-)
I don't care about sharing baby names because I'm not planning on having any myself, so it doesn't matter.
I do look at name meanings. I don't think it would have an effect on choosing a name, but I do think they're interesting.
I used to want my name to me Laylani or something more Hawaiian. Now I'm perfectly happy with Lyn.
I will admit I don't like to share baby names because of the fear that someone might steal them. I have all the baby girl names thought of and Danish man is covering the boys names.
I have looked into what Linda means in spanish but the meanings don't play a big part in picking names. I think its more how the whole name sounds. So if a first name doesn't sound right connected to the last name I would want to move on.
Motolyn's House Remodel Blog Starting anew Nov. 2012.
I'm not afraid of people stealing my baby names, but I have always liked these 3 names. Of course, my sister's soon-to-be fiance is the boys name, and FBIL's gf is the girl's name. What a crazy coincidence, huh?
I like my name, but when I was little- I wanted to be "Lisa Mary" instead of "Deanna Lisa." My sister unofficially changed her name to "AlyJane"...which is kinda weird. LOL. Jane is her middle name.
Something neat that my dad did....He named my sister so that she would have the same initials as his father. Kinda neat, no?
The only thing I know about baby names is that if we have a daughter- her middle name will be Mary. And if we have a son- his middle name will be Laidlaw (family name).
I also get called "Janelle" a lot, verbally and via email.
I wanted to get a nickname when I started high school...something more fun and easy to spell, but since I already knew too many people, that didn't work.
I have no concern about baby names, since I don't want babies. I do find it odd when people have picked a name but don't want to say what it is. I mean, what am I going to do with it?
I haz a planning bio
I'm referred to by my last name a lot. My boss and coworkers constantly call me my last name, a lot of my friends - even my sister and I call each other our last name. I love that too
I love names in general, so I have had running lists of someday baby names for years. The one that has been my favorite most consistently is Reese, for a girl. My favorite boy name is Cade, but we had a family friend named Cade who committed suicide when he was 17 so my mom told me not to use it because it's too sad. I like looking at the meanings of names, but I don't think it would make or break the name for me.
Theres meaning behind my name so I wouldn't want to change it (great grandfather was Christian and my uncle who died less then a yr old was Chris)
I wont share the names I like with people around me as my sister almost named her son the one I like for a boy. I was pissed just because if we ever had one without trying to have one. I love the name Elijah for a boy but FI doesn't like it bc the one Eli he knows is a drunk on way too many drugs.
I honestly have no plans on having a kid so looking up the name would be pointless.
I love Harper Lily for a girl, and Ethan Scott for a boy :-)
Sousa - BF's nephew's name is Kade, and I think it's so cute!
Did you ever want to be named something else at any point in your life? Yes I went by Nina for most of my life, a nickname I got when I was little and other little kids could say Carolina. I used to want to be named something less complicated like Amy when I was in elementary school.
If you could rename yourself now- what would it be? I wouldn't.
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? Yes.
If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be?I love the name Jackson for a boy. I love the name and it is FI's middle name This is no secret. My sister wants to name her son (not pregnant or married or close to either) Jack and has threatened to get knocked up in order to keep me from using Jackson. Crazy much?
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? Yes. I have looked into the meaning of the names I like out of curiosity.
And would this play a factor in baby names? The meaning isn't important to me unless it is something little "little trouble maker" or "super ugly woman". Then I might not want to give that name to my child...
I don't have any boy names picked out but if we happen to have a girl I am in love with the name Charlotte. Slightly old fashioned but I like Charlie for a nick name.
I love my name. People spell and pronounce it incorrectly all the time. I don't care.
If you could rename yourself now- what would it be?
I would keep my name. I cannot really think of any other name.
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be?
Nope. What do I care if someone on the internet 'steals' a name? Haha. I wil say that it is COMPLETELY different when you are actually naming your child.
If we have a girl before SIL, she will be named Charlotte Ann (after both of our maternal grandmothers.) I've always loved the name Charlotte, so has SIL. We have agreed that whoever has a girl first gets it. Haha.
Potential names for Nubbins are Logan and Brock but he could be named something completely different if neither fit him.
I love Luke but DH is enh about it.
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names?
I always look at the meanings. It could play a factor but the meaning would have to be something horrible or really off for me to change my mind about the name.

Funny. When I was growing up, we lived next door to a Logan family and across the street from a Brock family.
Because I'm sure you care.

It actually is kind of funny. Both names have been popping up in weird ways ever since we decided on those as our top 2.
I'm drawn to Brock, even though it is kind of 'uneek.' LOL.

I've always loved the names Logan and Luke. They both go great with Gavin (so does Brock). You have crazy good taste in boy names.

<div>This happened to my aunt and my mom! Both were vying for the name "Franklin", because their mother, Florence, had just passed and they both wanted to honor her. They were both pregnant around the same time. It was the only boy name that started with "F" that both my parents liked, and my mother was very fond of the nickname Frankie. Apparently, my aunt liked it too.</div><div>
My aunt had her baby, my cousin, first. She had a girl and named her Frankie anyway - just so my mother couldn't use the name! My brother ended up being named Fredrick, but my mother still holds a grudge against her sister for "stealing" her name. </div>
When I birth my duggar sized family, I'm stealing all of your baby names. HA!
My name: It's my name...I wouldn't feel right being called anything else. Also-weird note-my little sister has changed the spelling of her name like 20 times since we were kids. Weird.
So I already have a son...duh...and (shhh) his name is the one that Stina was talking about up there ^^^. Why did I choose it? Well the night I found I was knocked up (out of wedlock..gasp) I was lying in bed praying. So I said "Ok then, God...kid's gotta have a name. So what is it?" No shiit...it was the ONLY name that came to me. I refuse to call him Eli, and we call him 'Lija' (Lie-juh) and Lija-bean. Sometimes it just gets shortened to 'Lij' (Lie with a soft j at the end).
I really like the name Anabella and Evageline for girls names, but I don't want to curse a daughter with a really long or hard to spell name. Both can be shortened to easy to spell nick names though, so there's that.

I'm not super fond of my name. I feel like it doesn't fit me well.
If you could rename yourself now- what would it be?
I have no idea.
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be?
Not really so I'll share. BF and I love the names Chloe, Juliette, and Lilly. We have zero boy names that we both like. I love the name Parker but BF isn't a fan. But it's not something we need to worry about for a few years
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names?
I do like to look at the meanings and I think if I couldn't decide between two names the meaning could factor in.
I do kinda like my name now, especially the shortening of it (Ely), but I hated it growing up because I never got to have one of those premade nametags you get in stores and people ALWAYS mispronounce it. I've gone through a ton of different names that I'd rather be growing up.
If you could rename yourself now- what would it be?
Hmm, I've finally come to the point where I wouldn't change it.
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be?
Pretty sure that nobody else in my family is having a baby any time soon, so I won't have to worry about anyone using up my names, but I used to worry about it because I knew I'd have kids last. So far we like Evey Annis LastName and Caleb (or Isaac) Richard LastName.
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names?
I look then up occasionally, but mine was never in the list and I don't think they really mean much, so it wouldn't influence me. I'd be more likely to be swayed to not choose a name based upon having known someone with that name and didn't like them, lol.
ETA: Purely coincidental that EAW and CRW happen to be FI's and my initials (after the wedding) and those are the initials for the names we like for any future kiddos.
Also, it's annoying that there's literally a ONE LETTER difference between mine and my sister's name. I mean, seriously, WTF mom? And the kicker is that both of our names are shortened versions of a different name, but are we named the full version? Of course not, just the shortened one.
I don't mind sharing my names on a forum like this, because even if 25 people 'steal' my names, the chances of our kids ever meeting are slim to none. With family & friends though, I'm a little more secretive, but not really, I'd just be more upset if someone used it before me.
Currently (and this will likely change about 5 times before we ever have kids), my favorite names are Ella Annick (mine and H's grandma's) and Owen James.
My favorite boy name is Cade
Posted by csousa1
I like Caleb, but I'd shorten it and call him Cale, most likely. FI isn't as fond of it because it reminds him of the vegetable, kale, lol. Cade is neat too though. That's sad that he committed suicide. I think that would make me reconsider too.
I always say that my name is Dianna with an "e".. I'm not sure if that really helps people with pronouncing my name or not. It's Deanna...The D sounds like "bee" (but with a d) and the anna sounds like banana (kinda??).

I'm gonna have to relearn your name. This whole time I thought your name was pronounced Dee-nuh, lol.

Haha thats funny, my friend once told me to just use the name Caleb and call him Cabe - close enough. It does bum me out that I can't just use Cade though.
Still here and still fabulous!
Did you ever want to be named something else at any point in your life? If you could rename yourself now- what would it be? Not really, I've liked other names but I've always been happy with mine. I used to like the spelling Kelli in middle school.
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be? My cousin's baby is Catherine, nickname Katie so she might be pissy if I used the name Kate, idk. I've always loved the name Audrey Marie (definitely Marie as a middle name, after both BF and my mom). Lately I've been really into the names Eve and Clara as well. I like Ryan for a boy. After some pressing I learned that BF likes the names Kate for a girl and David for a boy.
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names? I used to do this a lot. Both my names mean "female warrior"
I like all your names too - Charlotte, Juliet and Luke especially!
Did you ever want to be named something else at any point in your life? If you could rename yourself now- what would it be? I already did
Are you afraid to share baby names because you are afraid people will "steal" them? If you aren't afraid of theft....What would some names be? Nah, BF and I talk about names - we like random silly names, so I doubt anyone would take them lol. Such as Keygun.
Also- Do you ever look into name meanings? And would this play a factor in baby names? Not really.

People can steal my names all they want, no one has ever really liked the names I like, but if they want them then they can certainly take them because I don't plan on having kids for quite a long time and my taste will likely change by that time. BF and I had never talked about kids until one night when a friend was talking about what he wants to name his future kids and asked us, it was such a coincidence, I have always loved the name Mac, anything that can be shortened to Mac is a good name in my mind. BF was shocked to hear that because his Great Grandad was named MacKinnon and if he ever has a son he wants to name it MacKinnon and call him Mac for short, nice to know we feel the same way about that. For girls, I like Fiona and Lydia, not overly common, but not very unique either.
