I don't think you'd need to wait three months...but I personally would be nervous about posting a ticker before at least two, just because of the risk of miscarriage. I wouldn't want to have to answer a lot of questions if I had to take the ticker down.

I agree just because so many things can go wrong in those first three months. I thought it was pretty standard to not even talk about it with other people until at least 12 weeks. I get family and such at 6 or 8 weeks, but the whole interwebs at 3 1/3 weeks. Strange to me.

I just don't see the big deal with a 16 or 17 yr old. Especially if the boy is 18 and the girl 16 or 17. The maturity difference is loads different at that age (usually)

ETA: But i don't think that type of 'sex offender' would be labeled violent. So theres a difference there.

I completely understand wanting to share it, but I really do think it's in poor taste. There's a reason it superstitious not to tell before the 2nd trimester. And it's not just protecting other people's feelers, I'd feel so awful for that person if they told everyone then miscarried. Just tell your family and few close friends. The whole of theknot message board community does not need to know.

Well, and ALSO, in those cases, the parent would have to press charges, or the girl (or boy) her/himself.

So typically if it's a relationship thing, nothing is going to happen.

But if you are an 18 year old and you choose to have sex with a younger person, you take on the responsibility that that is a chance you are taking.

there's two fields on that one..

some people choose to keep early pregnancy secret in case of miscarriage because they won't want to talk about it when it happens

others prefer to share so they have a support network of friends when a miscarriage happens, there's two ways of looking at it...

and it's a really, really hard secret to keep.... when i finally told everyone i was pg it was like a huge burden was lifted off my shoulders.. and it was at the 2 month mark i think..

Yeah, I don't like the 18yo high school senior being a sex offender for sleeping with his 16 yo junior girlfriend. Ridiculous. Especially as it is enforced, often based on race in the South (ie black 18yo and his white girlfriend).

18yo and 12 or 13 is different, but I don't think it is a black and white (literally and figuratively) issue. It also isn't the spirit of the law.

strlzfan... i agree to keep the "big announcement" from friends and family until it's confirmed with the doctor.. but let's say someone is having trouble ttc and they get a positive.. i wouldn't hold it against them to share their excitement on the message board and say "i got a positive!!"... a ticker at that point, i agree, would be a bit much until confirmation..

Not everyone believes in superstition. There's no etiquette law saying that you shouldn't announce a pg before 1st tri - a lot of people choose not to but those that do shouldn't be subject to the "oh my god, why are you telling people? Don't you know that SOMETHING COULD HAPPEN?!?!?!" that they seem to get.

If I peed on a stick and found out I was pregannt, I would definitely have to tell someone besides H. I would probably tell my night crew on here, as in "I just poas and it said pregnant, still have to go to the doctor." I probably wouldn't tell my mom or anyone IRL until I went to the doctor to confirm it. And then I would probably wait until 8 weeks to tell people. 12 weeks is long, and I hate keeping exciting news a secret.

Yeah, I agree with this. And honestly, at that age, sure they KNOW they COULD get in trouble, but are they really thinking about that while they're messing around? Absolutely not.

I wasn't saying that everyone does believe in superstition, just that there's some truth behind that one and that the first 12 weeks are a very up in the air time in a pregnancy.

And I would never go telling someone that "something could happen". This is FFT. I was just pointing out my thoughts on the subject on these tickers.
