#1 - I'm in Canada :) in crazy Ontario if some of you  haven't caught on with all the crazy snow.

#2 - I actually tried debating in Grade 12 and it turned out I was pretty good at it. I ended up being the regional champ that year both for individual speakers, and as a team.

Late to the party, but I'll play!

If someone were to wish you Merry Christmas, even though you do not celebrate it, would you be offended? Why or why not?

Only slightly, because I think it's arrogant to think everyone celebrates Christmas. I prefer "Happy Holidays". Especially when I used to work at a movie theater, and we were always open on Christmas. Because I'm Jewish, I would always volunteer to work. Exchanges would go like this:
ME: Enjoy your film
CUSTOMER: Thanks, Merry Christmas!
ME: Happy Hannuka!
CUSTOMER: Uh, I don't celebrate Hannuka.
ME: I don't celebrate Christmas.

...I got a laugh out of it at least. No one ever complained about it if they found it offensive.

My question is for all the unemployed ladies - What field are you looking to work in and how is the job search coming along?

I have no clue. The job hunt is dismal. I majored in a field that I'm passionate about (media studies, like GPB) but I don't know what I want to do with it. I can do almost anything in the field but they don't usually hire right out of college. But I don't know what I want to do with it. Right now I'm just looking for administrative assistant positions because they pay well and it's steady work.

A question to the Knotties who are brave to answer this, who has baby fever?
Not me, that's for damn sure. It's so weird though because five girls I went to high school with (3 of which I graduated with) already have babies.

Everyone- Do you speak another language? If so, what? If not, what would you love to learn?
I do not, but I've always wanted to learn French. It sounds adorable when it's spoken.
This is more of a poll for everyone here - FI and I are seriously considering moving in the next year (yes, we just bought a house but got an offer for a company that wanted to buy our house from us the other day which was completely random!). So where should we move? Our choices are: 1. Chicago 2. North Carolina - Greensboro, Wilmington, or Chapel Hill 3. Boston 4. Pennsylvania - Outside the Pittsburgh area or near Penn State Since FI is in construction we need a place that he will be able to find a job pretty easily and since I'm in teaching - somewhere where Intervention Specialist jobs are plentiful. :) And go!
Posted by nottheonlydreamer44
I vote for Pennslvania! I lived in Pittsburgh for a while when I was in school, great city- very friendly people and clean. There is always construction going on out there (my dad is in construction as well, so i take notice of new projects) State College is really fun too! and beautiful, if you like football thats the place to be!

I'm back ya'll...had to go to class.

I do not have baby fever other than the "aw, babies are cute" thing. When I hold BF's niece, I give her back immediately when she cries or poops.

I am not fluent in any language, although I'd like to be. I know a few words in Russian, though. Mainly swears.

I took Sign Language in high school.  I was actually pretty fluent in it, our class partnered with the deaf school to translate on field trips and such, then there was a couple people in college that were deaf that I talked to on a normal basis.  I haven't really used it since then though so I've forgotten so much of it.

FI has all of the Rosetta Stone languages so I want to start with Spanish.  We plan on doing some traveling to Spanish-speaking countries, so it'll be handy to learn (plus it will also help a lot here too).  I also sort of want to learn French because we are planning to go to France next summer (2012) to visit FI's aunts/uncles that don't speak English, although his grandma will be with us, so she can translate too.

I'll give a few quick answers...

wedding planning...we're right on track (except for those pesky shoes...I want to wear white and I have to wear flats because of bad ankles and knees and I wear a 9 1/2 W, which is really hard to find...and it's got to be rather inexpensive).  We are addressing and stuffing invitations on Sunday because we've got to mail them out on Jan 3 (that gives about 6 weeks till the RSVP date of Valentine's Day and gives us about a week and a half after that to track down dead beats who don't RSVP and get the final head count turned in) - so exciting - we're going to have a Turkey dinner for all of our elves that are helping.

job search...I'm looking for general office/admin assistant/receptionist work, just not in an HOA management office - I couldn't take any more of that life.  This past Monday I had my 5th interview with 5 different companies in a matter of 2 weeks.  Knowing that there are 300-400 applicants for every job I apply to right now, I feel really good that I'm at least getting interviews - now I just need to convince these people to all hire me :)

languages...I took 3 years of French in high school and took a CLEP test (do they still have those?  it's like an AP test) and then had to have a conversational one-on-one test with a professor my 1st week in college and that got me out of 2 semesters of college French and then I took the 2nd 2 semesters of college French.  That was 15 or so years ago.  I can say very few words in French now - it's like they say, use it or lose it.

ETA Oh I also speak (some) ASL.  Ok back to being late...

Not really snowed in but definitely burried under a ton of snow. It's mildly ridiculous for this time of year.

I obtained a B.S. in Housing Studies.

I am looking for a job in Housing, Real Estate and some Office Admin type positions.

Baby fever - had it, however it has disappeared. And ran a marathon many eons away.  Hope that doesn't happen for a long while.  lllllloooooonnnnnnngggggg while.  To the point that I'm hoping I'm still of child bearing age when I want a child.

Languages - I took Spanish for 5 years through high school/middle school, but am not a conversationalist at all. Around here, bilingual doesn't appear to pay very well at all. I keep seeing bilingual job postings for $10/ hr. I was paid a fair amount more and didn't need to know additional languages.

Loop - what happened to your baby fever?! Did mexico kill it for you? lol. I am definitely way off the baby bandwagon, as well. Hit me hard for about 2 weeks and then I thought WTF no time soon, please and thank you.

I definitely want to be a mom sometime, but I don't have baby fever.  At all.  BF and I figure we'll have been together by 10 years before we have kids, which will give us plenty of time to ourselves.  We're in no rush.  In fact, I'm terrified that I'm going to be a crappy mom despite the fact that I love kids and work at a daycare.

I think the fact that I'm terrified of vomit (as in, I run away and feel sick myself) and have a phobia of blood (pass-out-level fear) leads to that, since kids have been known to get scrapes and get sick.  It's a good thing BF is going to be a paramedic, that way he can deal with them when they get sick.

My earlier second question was inspired by the fact that I've written three full length novels.  I didn't do any sports or any normal extra curriculars growing up, so I've finally found something that makes me feel accomplished.

People with divorced parents - Do you ever worry that you'll be influenced by witnessing their marriage going down hill?  I guess this is particularly aimed towards other people whose parents had a really bad relationship.

NTOD - Multiple reasons kind of squashed baby fever. Mainly I don't think its the best time, and Paul wants to get a big group to go to Mexico about this time next year. Having a baby would complicate that, as well as being pregnant during that time would also not be fun.

My grandparents are divorced, but they worked things out relatively well so that doesn't scare me. I've mentioned it before but they raised me, not my parents, so my parents don't really influence me.
