Man, I could really use a drink! It has been a rough week, but I don't like drinking alone...especially when I am slightly depressed

i have to have a super awkward conversation with my boss in about 20 minutes.. I got offered to interview for a full time position here, but I can't take it...in my right mind I can't take it and peace out in 4 months when we get married.. and they know it. They want me to stay around for 3-5 years at the shortest amount of time if I were to take the job.. But in this ecomony (and my lack of job offers in JAX) it seems silly fo decline an offer.

FI and i regularly have arguements about my frustration in this matter, this isn't the first job offer I have had in this area. I know this happens to everyone but I have a fantastic resume, great grades, and lots of leadership experience.. I am a great candidate, and my lack of network in Florida is really hurting me.

It's December!!! Just in case nobody noticed :-). I am sitting at work going crazy. I slipped Sunday night getting into my truck(it was POURING) and sort of jammed my knee. I dunno, but the doc thinks I bruised under my knee cap. So yesterday I got put on crutches until Tuesday when I go back. He made my life a PITA with these things but no meds for the pain. Motrin is the AF's staple for all things medical. Vomiting? Broke limb? Kidney stone? Here's 800mg Motrin, you'll feel better in a week or so. Ugh! Sometimes I just want to feel no pain. hehe, I'm pretty sure that's a song(or two!). Oh man, I need my coffee. But it's on the other side of this mini wall from me and I can't carry it while using crutches so I have a perfectly poured mug of coffee...just calling my name. I'm hoping someone will see it and just bring it to me. :-)

Amanda, I know it's hard but you're right, most of the women on here have had to give up some sort of career/job or they will be soon enough. This doesn't make it suck any less, just know that you'll get through it. Networking may take some time after you move but it's not the end of the world. It's actually the beginning of a new one. You'll continue to do this everytime your FI gets stationed somewhere new. I think you're only focusing on the negatives(not that I blame you) but try to look at the positives. Make a list of everything great you'll get out of this new experience and keep it with you. When it starts to get to you again, pull out your list and remind yourself what you will gain from it.

Hike, shouldn't you be finding something out this week? Sorry if I missed something somewhere or miscalculated.

I am working today.  I though the "filing fairies" would have visited my office last night but alas they didn't.  Later I am packing when I get home for the weekend.  It is the annual Reindeer Run and of course the SEC championship game.  Several of our friends planned a party after the Reindeer Run to watch the game.

Shay- Ouch!!! Yikes that sucks big time!

Amanda- I will be leaving a wonderful job in a little awhile as H comes home.  I am not looking forward to it at all.

    Hey ladies!

Today marks the start of business as usual for me; which is refreshing. I ordered STD's 2 days ago and I'm waiting on those to come in so I can send them out. Wedding planning is plugging along and I have a few different centerpiece ideas that I think I will try in the next week or so to show you ladies. We prioritized our guest list so that we can be sure that we're not sending STD's to anyone who we definitely can't afford to invite if more than 70 percent accept. It was hard to do and kind of sucks, but if it's not in the budget, it's not in the budget. blah. FI and I were looking at our schedules and it's crazy to me to think that we're only going to see each other 8 more times before the wedding in Mid-May!! This makes me excited and a little freaked out, but in a good way.

I am at work today, waiting on my coffee to finish brewing, and then it's into a dark hole of studying for me. Can you say yuck? My next test is in a week!

    Good morning ladies!!
I'm pretty sick unfortunately. Its this head cold, cough, throat thing. I really hope its nothing serious, but I feel like Hell. I've been on benadryl, and nyquil, and cloraseptic tablets for the past two days, today I'm trying muscinex and hoping that helps. FI has his frocking ceremony today, and that's really about it, so has long as I'm feeling better to go to it. I'll be happy.

Other than that, work has been super busy. I feel like I haven't had time to breathe outside of it. I'm actually in the process of making out a list for wedding to-do's this weekend. We send our invites out on the 29th.

Amanda - I have to second what Shay said. There are plenty of job offers here. I think Sami or Cali mentioned to get on Linklin (I think thats how its spelt) there are tons of oppertunites stemming from there. Sometimes, in this life especially you have to start from the bottom again to work your way up. If it really bothers you that badly, then you guys could do the Geobachalor situation - but it's important to keep in mind, (unless he is wanting to stay here is whole career or get out) you'll be in this situation again in 2-4 years.

I'm at work!!!!! Since 5!!!!! and it's sooo cold in here my fingers are stiff! We keep it set at 70 for the ladies working out, but when it's thirty degrees outside and we turn the AC/Heat off at night when we leave, it doesn't ever seem to catch up..

I decided that I'm going to get my IL's a comic book for Christmas.  My neighbor across the street is a cartoonist (he used to work for Mad Magazine) and he's super funny. Here's a link to his website Clicky.  He asked me what I wanted him to put inside (He signs all of them) and I really wanted to say "MIL & FIL, You must have done something right to have such a nice son and a wonderful DIL, in Sami"... I love backhanded compliments! Thank you to my southern upbringing!!

Oh man...Thirsty Thursdays...I was so bad my freshman year. I blame my awesome party-animal roommate second semester (my roommate first semester was a loner and decided to drop out of college and move back home to be with her bf). I would be wasted at least 3 nights a week. Sad, really. Literally gained the cliche "freshman 15" (fun fact, the average freshman only gains like 3 pounds). Lost it all and then some, but anyway...

I am obsessing over Pinterest right now. I haven't had it in months since our laptop crashed, so now I'm going crazy with it!

I'm having a brunch GTG with Kara today!! (Kara if you're on here before our GTG, just so you know, I am realll excited)! Then I have to go to work. The I'm stopping by Planet Fitness! A new one must have recently opened up here in Norfolk. If you haven't heard of it, it's only like $10/month and you pay month to month, no contract. And it's right on my way to/from work. I am SO excited to be able to start working out again. Especially because I have my first dress fitting at the end of the month!

ETA: While eating my Cap'n Crunch, I found a piece with a bug leg partially baked into it. Mmmm protein!

Amanda, I've moved twice to cities where I had no network.  Check out your college's alumni network to see if any have moved to the area - even if they're in a totally different field, asking them to meet with you for coffee to discuss "the area" is helpful.  They can give you ideas on where to live, etc., but also you never know who knows whom.  Their neighbor could be in your field and looking to hire!  I employed the "Coffee Technique" since job hunting was so depressing, and it really worked - I've had 2-3 friends try it since and it's worked within a month for both of them, too!  Instead of "trying to find a job", try to meet people for coffee.  This obviously can't happen until you're in the area, but you could do phone chats before then - not as easy or successful, but it may help you build your network before you get there.  Every conversation should have the intent of being introduced to 3 more people, so you want to buy at least 5-6 cups of coffee for people each week and get introduced to 15-18 more people each week (3 each).  Before long, your network has grown significantly, and all these people now know how awesomely qualified you are and have their ear to the ground in case they hear of something.  You do have to follow up with each one, usually on a "every 2 week" basis, to make sure they remember you.  It really does work!  I found my job in Miami by using my college's networking group on LinkedIn.

Shay, wish I could share my leftover Tylenol 3 with you!  Yes, sharing meds is a total no-no, but in a perfect world, I could just give you one or two since they took the edge off the pain perfectly for me when I had shingles.  Just enough, but not too much like Vicodin which makes me feel drugged and loopy.  For serious pain, Tylenol 3 is now my go-to drug!  Can you not go to an off-base clinic or something, like CVS Minute Clinic or Walgreens Take Care Clinic?  They charge whatever the PCP copay is on your insurance card, and they'd probably be much more willing to prescribe something slightly stronger to help with the pain and reduce inflammation.

Today is 9 months until my wedding!  That means we're officially at the halfway point from when we got engaged.  Yipes, the time REALLY has flown!  9 months is still a significant chunk of time, though.  My Mom's all freaking out, but I don't know that there's THAT much left to do still.  I'm not stressed, which is good!  Maybe at the 3 month mark, when I'm trying to wrap things up in Miami and pack and find us an apartment wherever FI is headed and finalize wedding stuff, that's probably when I'll stress!

Hike, I'm thinking of you and sending good vibes!  No pressure at all - I know in my heart this will work out for you soon.

Haha! I picked out that piece and kept eating. I don't think I'd get anything from Quaker because I am pretty sure the FDA permits a certain number of bug pieces per item/quantity of food. Also, I doubt there is any substantial amount of protein in a tiny bug leg!

I'm sitting in clinic waiting on the real doctors to show up so that I can actually do something, although at least this way I have a chance to check up on here! It's been sooooo cold every morning this week, and today I forgot to go defrost my car before time to leave for work, so the first 10 minutes of my drive consisted of me hunched over the wheel peeking out of the 4 inch tall defrosted spot on my winshield. It was probably an amusing sight for anyone that saw me. Amanda- I've never actually had to job-hunt, so I don't have any advice. I just want to say good luck! Try to stay positive about the whole thing, getting depressed over it is just going to make your situation worse. Shay- Ouch! I hope your knee gets better soon! And your comment about Motrin made me laugh, FI says the same thing about the Marine Corps! Sami- I hope you thaw out soon! And I like your backhanded compliment for the IL's :) Binx- holy crap, I would freak out if I saw that in my cereal!

How Many Rodent Hairs and Insect Parts Are In ...

Here is a very brief sampling of the FDA's Food Defect Action Level list. They begin investigation when foods reach the action level they've set. According to the FDA, typical foods contain about 10 percent of the action level, but others say they contain more like 40 percent.

    CHOCOLATE AND CHOCOLATE LIQUOR

Insect filth: Average is 60 or more insect fragments per 100 grams when 6 100-gram subsamples are examined OR any 1 subsample contains 90 or more insect fragments

Rodent filth: Average is 1 or more rodent hairs per 100 grams in 6 100-gram subsamples examined OR any 1 subsample contains 3 or more rodent hairs

    CITRUS FRUIT JUICES, CANNED

Insects and insect eggs: 5 or more Drosophila and other fly eggs per 250 ml or 1 or more maggots per 250 ml

    RED FISH AND OCEAN PERCH

Parasites: 3% of the fillets examined contain 1 or more parasites accompanied by pus pockets

    MACARONI AND NOODLE PRODUCTS

Insect filth: Average of 225 insect fragments or more per 225 grams in 6 or more subsamples

Rodent filth: Average of 4.5 rodent hairs or more per 225 grams in 6 or more subsamples

    PEANUT BUTTER

Insect filth: Average of 30 or more insect fragments per 100 grams

Rodent filth: Average of 1 or more rodent hairs per 100 grams

    POPCORN

Rodent filth: 1 or more rodent excreta pellets are found in 1 or more subsamples, and 1 or more rodent hairs are found in 2 or more other subsamples OR 2 or more rodent hairs per pound and rodent hair is found in 50% or more of the subsamples OR 20 or more gnawed grains per pound and rodent hair is found in 50% or more of the subsamples

    WHEAT FLOUR

Insect filth: Average of 75 or more insect fragments per 50 grams

Rodent filth: Average of 1 or more rodent hairs per 50 grams

Shay, that seems extraordinarily high.  Yikes!  I'll stick with unprocessed foods as much as possible.  It's much easier to make sure there's no bugs in fresh vegetables (just wash 'em) and meats (kinda would be easy to see a bug on a chicken breast).

Kara- I ate a small bowl of cereal because when I ate, I had already been awake for almost 4 hours due to a 4:00 a.m. drunk dial my FI received from his buddy back in WI. I was not pleased. And I'm the type of person who, once I'm up, I'm up. I knew I wouldn't last 7 hours for our brunch! My metabolism is fast in the morning so I'm already hungry anyway :)

Shay- I tried looking on the FDA website but wasn't patient enough to skim. Thanks! I am now disgusted. Oh well.

Another fun fact: one type of "red food dye" you will find in labels come from dried out, crushed up beetle. Delish.

Thank you ladies, I really appreciate the advice. I know everyone goes through it, I hope I didn’t step on any toes with my vent… All of my friends think I am BSC for choosing a guy over my career, but they just don’t understand.

ShayNnik – Thanks for the pro list idea. I am a huge pro/con list fan, probably due to my programmatic way of thinking. And I know there are plenty of pros that go along with it (HELLO, the beach!), but I know I just gotta keep my head up.

Crown – I think if I hated my job I would be more excited to leave it, but I LOVE what I do (and it isn’t a job most entry level people start off doing) so I’m just feeling blah about leaving.

Amh – I’m on linkedIn, but I just haven’t found anything better there than the other million job boards I am on. They are hiring plenty of people in my field, except they want people with 5 -10 year of experience OR if they are hiring entry level positions they going through the career services at the local universities, I have considered taking a few classes at the local University just so I can get on their network...

Cal- I am actually a little more on top of the  on the network thing than I lead on...But I have tried contacting the Alumni Club in JAX...pretty sure they haven’t updated the contacts on a while or the club is  inactive because the “contact” person (when I stalked on FB/LinkedIn) doesn’t even live in Florida anymore. Oy! I’ll have to check for a LinkedIn group. To be honest, I have broadened my network in FL recently, but it just doesn’t feel like it is working too well, haha; I do have distant family (whom I have contacted) in JAX, talked with MY career services (2 company contacts in JAX, neither of which are even thinking about hiring anytime soon), talked with the ‘career services’ for Navy Spouses in JAX, talked with my professors who know of a few grads that now live in Florida, and I plan to contact my business fraternity alumni chapter which will provide valuable contacts. I do love the idea about coffee and if I don’t have anything by the time I get out there I will most definitely try it.

Melbelle –Thank you, for the most part I am pretty positive. I think what really gets me down is when my friends that have worse grades than I do, less experience, and a piss-poor work ethic and they get multiple job offers. I shouldn’t compare because it is a totally different ball game, but I just want to scream sometimes.

Crown: I think your filing elves are also my laundry elves. They've all mysteriously gone missing. Hmmmmmm...

FI and I were just having a conversation about how many bugs were in chocolate last night, and also that a person eats an average of 8 spiders in their lifetime (they get in your mouth when you sleep). Don't know if that's true or just an old wives tale.

Sami: I'm about to send my FMIL a message about making Christmas plans (has become giant clusterfuck, which may lead to us not seeing my family) and have to be as nice and sweet as possible-Southern Girl powers, activate! And your siggy is so pretty.

FTL: How do you make peppermint body scrub? I actually buy it every year, and hoard it until the next holiday, but knowing how to make it would be awesome.

This week has flown by for me and been super-awesome. I'm sending good vibes out to everyone. The only dark spot now is getting together with the future ILs about Christmas, and trying to make them make plans so that we can evenly distribute ourselves.
