Wow, I was on your side on this one until this post.  You know how this board works - just stop posting if you don't want to continue the conversation.

I also think it's important to care about topics that might not affect you directly (I like how Spiffy put it - if your friend didn't want to change her name and this was a law, you might care more).  But still, I respect the fact that you didn't fully understand the topic or the issue, so you did more questioning - you didn't necessarily pick a side and defend it mindlessly.  You asked the June board, you asked us, you asked your history teacher.  I will always respect someone who doesn't know something and tries to learn more.  Learning is good.

And it seems you did have an open mind about it - you see our point (even though I hadn't posted yet, basically just repeat exactly what Matcha said - she phrased it VERY well), but it isn't a big issue so it's kind of like, "Oh, okay.  That makes sense.  Not going to go blogging about it or creating a website, and doesn't really change my life, but yeah, makes sense."

And I do think it's a bit annoying the June board followed her over here when she really didn't do anything.  I do get the history behind it, because we obviously have it, too, but still - that seems like a bully-ish thing to do, and I'm really anti-bullying.  And it really wasn't called for in this situation.

I would HATE if I HAD to change my name. I couldn't wait to change my name because it meant I wouldn't have the same one as my sister anymore.

I feel like this is very sexiest. Hubs and I had talked a lot about name changing. At one point he even suggested us taking both names. I'm glad I'm taking his name but if I was forced to, I would fight it.

    I hope this makes sense

I actually totally agree with that. I'm in no rush but do want to have the same name eventually. But tell me "have to" anything and I get all pissy.

I'm in a little bit of a hurry with somethings. (Passport, id, SS) but other things not so much (DPSST, the bank, getting checks)<div>
</div><div>I'm very much against being told I "have to" do anything. I do things my way in my own time</div>
