Maybe it's just me but I hate when people say they were "gifted" children. I can't stop rolling my eyes when I see people posting this statement. Just say you were above average.

Someone said it somewhere in this thread and I also saw it in another thead the other day. I think that really is the term for above average children but I think there should be an alternative word...how about just wicked smart?

I would like to know as well.

I found what she was talking about, but nobody said it in the, "Guys, I am SOOOO gifted" kind of way.

I was also considered 'gifted' and our program was simply called the Gifted & Talented program, but everyone just said GT.

I would say that in a school setting, Gifted & Talented sounds more appropriate than "Wicked Smart"

It was "Learning Experiences for Accelerated Pupils" at my school. Or, LEAP.

And sorry - but anybody who says that gifted programs don't belong because they make kids in them feel bad or whatever - I don't think teaching to the lowest common denominator is the right way to improve education in the US.

We referred to the gifted program as GATE. I think gifted is just a designation and doesn't come off as obnoxious.

WHATEVA, J&K!!!

At my school, the GIFTED kids got their own building!!! That way all of the REGULAR kids felt SHAMED for not being in the cool building. That beats your whole school.
