    Subscription service that isn't in a proprietary format would be awesome.  I'm pretty wary that buying a bunch of Kindle books is going to backfire when I can't get them on anything but a Kindle, effectively locking me into a specific product for a personal library.

    Right, which is why I prefer having the memory card slot, I can just upload the books from my library's ebook service, and done. The Kindle won't accept them.
