I'm New - Help! - Victorian Villa Inn Question

Yeah, those are three differnt topics - thought I'd save space and get them all done at once. :)

Hey everyone!  I'm pretty new to TK.  I've only posted a few times but never on the NC board.  I've just recently gotten engaged and we're not getting married until April 2012.  We're waiting that long so my FI can finish school.  However, I'm finding out that I already need to start planning?  I thought the long engagement would afford me time to plan well but I'm already stressing.  A little bit.

We've done a ton of research online and have a list of venues to look at.  However, the Victorian Villa Inn is on the top of our list.  It seems to be the best fit for us and the kind of wedding we want to have.  However, I have a question for the girls who have gotten married there or are getting married there... How was the communication with them?  I know they're extremely busy but I've had a hard time getting in contact with them.  I had to call several times and email before getting a response.  I only left one voicemail and sent one email because I didn't want to be a pain but I did call several times as well.  My first response from them was that my date was already booked! I couldn't believe it... that far out.  I asked them to double check and they did come back and say that they had two dates left and mine was one of them.  I've asked to make an appointment to go look at it and get a quote but now I'm waiting to hear back again.  I don't know what I'm doing!  I've never even helped someone plan a wedding before... I don't want to be a pest but if it's "the place" I don't want to risk losing it.  How do I handle this situation?

And that leaves me with another dilemma.  If I can get it, I'm nervous about booking a place so soon without much time, if any, to look at other places.  I'm afraid I'll book it because I love it and I don't want to lose it but with so much time, I'll find something I like more.

I'm not totally freaking out... yet! :)  But I would really appreciate some advice/suggestions.

Thank you so much!!

Amy

Ps... Sorry for such a long post!

I know there are girls who have gotten married there on here, so you should get some responses about working with the owners there, but I don't have any advice about that!

As far as not rushing into anything -- relaly, if they are already booking up that far in advance, you kind of have to.  I did most of my research on venues on the internet.  I emailed about 6 places that looked like they met my needs, to get prices, and their dates of availability.  We only went to actually see two places based on the info we found.  So, you don't have to go look at a ton of places, if you have an idea of what you want.  If you have that idea, and you like the place, then I would say go ahead and book it!

That said, if you have no idea yet what style of wedding you want, you might want to look through magazines, blogs, and other internet sites to get a rough idea of what you want before you finalize anything!

    Thanks Beth. :)

I do have an idea in my head of what I want and really, this place has it all.  Or as close to everything we want as I believe we can get.  I guess my issues is, what if I see/hear/come up with a new idea that I hadn't thought of before and realize I like it better?  With so much time between now and the wedding that feels like a good possibility.  I guess I'm just thinking about it too much.  If I end up loving the place I think I'll just book it and refuse to look at any other venues so that I can remain blissfully ignorant that there is anything better out there!

    Thanks again for the advice.

I am getting married there April 30th and I really haven't had problems communicating with them at all.  The one time they didn't reply to my e-mail within 24 hours they were out of town.  I have done pretty much all of my contact with them via e-mail though because I work weird hours.  So I wouldn't be too concerned, but do express your concerns to them if you do decide to book there.  Todd and Liz are both very kind and will do all they can to help you.  I have his cell number if you need it :p

As for booking, this was one of the last places I looked at so I'm not a load of help and I looked on Friday and signed my contract on Monday.  I was not set on a date though (though they did have the one I was leaning towards).  They do book up early for April/May dates, and I know I got the last April 2011 date when I signed in April 2010 (or so they said).  If you feel like it's "the" place, then I would go ahead.

Thanks Amanda!  I finally got Todd on the phone yesterday (he called me) and I have an appointment this afternoon.  We'll see how it goes!

Well, I'm still confused about what to do.  I went there yesterday.  I didn't walk in there and have a, this place is so beautiful and I have to have my wedding here, feeling.  But honestly, I'm not sure I believe that I'd ever have that feeling.  In my mind every place has it's pros and cons and no place is going to have it all.  That being said, I do still feel like this place is the closest fit to what I want.  However, I also still feel like I need more time to make a decision.  I just need to look at more places I guess.  And if this one is no longer available by the time I make a decision, well... I guess it wasn't meant to be. :-/

If you need more time to look, you need more time to look.  If you need reccomendations on similar type places, send me a PM or feel free to e-mail me at amward84@gmail.com because I looked at pretty much any venue where I could have an outdoor wedding between Mooresville and Charlotte.  And Hickory (as that's where the FI is from).

Take your time.  If the date goes away there, you will fine someplace else -- especially if you are not super in love with it.
