So after I saw the trailer for Something Borrowed the movie, I decided to read the book. I just started chapter 5 and I haven't yet found who John Krasinski is supposed to be. IMDb lists his character as "Ethan" in the movie. Did they make this character up for the movie? Because if they did, I think that's horse shiit!
Re: Something Borrowed (the book/movie)
Ethan is Rachel and Darcy's childhood friend who is SUPPOSED to live in England. I don't even want to get into all of the inconsistencies in the movie that I've seen just from the previews.

But seriously ladies, when does a movie EVER follow a book to the letter?
I thought the book was really good. I mean, it doesn't require a lot of deep thought or anything, but it was well written for chick lit. I also really liked Something Blue, which picks up where Something Borrowed leaves off, tells Darcy's side and continues the story.
But seeing the preview for this movie really pissed me off, haha.

Birdie - I'm about at the same place as you are. Ethan was the one that Rachel had a huge crush on back in grade school. And Darcy decided to like him, too. (OF COURSE!)
And Darcy is supposed to be brunette and it pisses me off that they cast a blonde to play her because it's just playing into the message that blondes are somehow inherently prettier and more desirable :::flips brunette hair:::

Yeah, I thought of that the other day. Although Kate Hudson seems to make the perfect Darcy. She is so good at playing the loveable B!tch.

The devil wears prada and shopaholic did that to me. I love them both as books, and I like them both as movies on their own, but there are so many inconsistencies it drives me nuts!

I get annoyed when they turn brunettes blonde too TR. Like Marlena in Water for Elephants or when they made Jessica Simpson Daisy Duke.
I haven't read the book or seen the movie, but I've heard the casting is all kinds of messed up. Ginnifer Goodwin's character is supposed to be plain and mousey, which she is certainly not, and Kate Hudson's character is supposed to be a brunette bombshell. Kate is definitely not brunette, and in my humble opinion she is no bombshell.

ETA: Fishy's gonna get me for this...I already see it coming.

I was such a nerd, the book is set in Jackson, where I am, so everytime they mentioned a landmark or an area of town I'd tap H and say "HEY! They just talked about ________!!!"

[QUOTE]good point, MP! I didn't even think of that. I haven't seen the trailer yet though. I loved the book - and I'm hoping they do a little tour here in town of stuff referenced in the book. I totally do that! Especially when I read books set in Cincinnati or Chicago. Heck even Boston now that I live here. We watched "The Departed" just after I picked FI up from the airport, and then the characters are in the airport. I'm all "MATT! WE WERE JUST THERE!"
I didn't even realize Darcy was supposed to be brunette. I think I remember reading it, but I just picture her as what's her face now.

SPOILER ALERT:
Ethan's character played a HUGE role in the movie, and it was weird. Claire was psychotic and there was no Hillary. There was no depth to the movie and felt like it lacked a lot of the emotion that's in the book. It was a fun, cutesy movie, but if you've read the book, you'll probably be a bit let down. I was.
We do have plans to go see Bridesmaids next week with some of my . . . . wait for it . . . BRIDESMAIDS! Rather apropos, I think.
Elizabethtown is kind of funny to watch in the beginning though, because he's supposed to be driving from the Louisville airport to e-town and he takes the MOST roundabout way. First he's on 64 (which isn't even near the airport) going the wrong way, then he magically is on 65 going back towards the airport, and so on.
