Pseudo-military bride

Hi guys! I'm Kellie. I'm marrying a prior-service Marine that I've known since high school (but didn't date, though I did hang around with his sister and we were all in band together).

Some of the guys he still knows from his old unit are still in, so they've all decided to wear their blues. So, yeah. Pseudo-military bride.

This is my second marriage, but I'm not that old. I think. I'm 33. That's not that old. I think. We live in Kansas City, MO with 3 neurotic Siamese cats, and if it's completely inappropriate I'll probably think it's hysterical.

Anyway. Hi!

Hey look at that I can upload a picture. That's us, right before the Dropkick Murphys concert last year. He and his little brother (also a prior service Marine) have these patch jackets that they made. I like to tease them that it makes them look like they're protesting the war in Viet-fucking-Nam (bonus points if you recognize the movie reference).

So I can't find a picture of the ring. Ok, that's not entirely accurate. There's one on my phone but I'm too tired (read: lazy) to figure out how to upload it here. But it has 3 diamonds in a row, with celtic knotting on the sides. It's imported from Ireland. He did well. :)

We're getting married on 5/25/2013, here:

REMOVED BECAUSE APPARENTLY PEOPLE ARE NUTS

Reception venue is currently vexing me. Several contendors, I'll spare you the drama. It bores even me.

My mom decided to do me a HUGE favor and become completely psychotic for our wedding. I think it's our wedding present. She lives in Ohio (where we're both from) and every time I mention something wedding she flips out and throws a huge drunken temper tantrum that she's the mother of the bride and she should be there and how dare we actually plan our wedding without her. So that's been fun. If she kept the receipt I'm totally returning her psychoses for cash or store credit.

Well, hellllooooo. Your ceremony space looks gorgeous.

It's my experience that the fantastic gift of family psychosis can only be returned within 90 days for store credit at the House of Cray-Cray, receipt optional. Good luck!

Hello! That's a BEAUTIFUL chapel! And you guys seem like a fun couple - I'm from Boston area so I'm a bit partial to DKM myself.

My rule about nutso family members is to not feed the crazies. Luckily, none in either my or FI's immediate family as far as the wedding goes - my parents are very helpful, his are uninvolved, which works for us. Don't tell Momma nothin' - just send her an invitation!

I did not realize Forrest Gump. I was thinking 'Good Morning Vietnam', as I'm sure they probably say that at some point, but yeah, missed the reference.

    Hi and welcome!

Just a heads up, you may want to take that link for your ceremony venue out. The crazies that come out to play on TK sometimes have been known in the past to cancel poster's venues on them based off of their info posted on here.

Hi and welcome. I ditto what beach said and recomend you take the date and link to your venue out of your post. Like she said, crazies have canceled the weddings of others thanks to info posted on these boards.
Forrest Gump is one of my favs. I was in high school when it was filmed here. I went to the casting call to be an extra but wasn't picked because they wanted to cut my hair. No go.

Sami, I love your meezer! :)

Shan, cool to have another Knottie close! One of my best friends is actually a Knottie from the old AOL boards, back when there was still AOL, when I was convinced I was going to marry my high school boyfriend. I swear, they should card you before you're allowed to buy an engagement ring.

Well I married my HS sweetheart but we waited 8 years, so I'll agree with your carding rule. I also think there should be an IQ test before you are allowed to conceive but I'm kinda taboo like that. I just got LT. DAN unstuck from my head and now it's all I can hear again. haha.

P.S On the Forest Gump note... H and I had a long talk about how we believe Jenny's virus was AIDs. What say you knottie Forest Gump fans?

I think so. They did a pretty good job sort of hinting fact without saying what and of course the time period and the showing drug use and stuff.

YES. She totally had AIDS. I've never questioned that fact. Funny, I am just realizing that they never specify the virus. Hmmm

Yea... I didn't know it was a question. I've only seen it once (unless you count the time we ate at Bubba Gumps in Long Beach and it was on loop.)

I just automatically figured it was AIDS. I didn't know there were any other theories, but if anyone has any, I'm interested in hearing them!

In the book, which is much darker, funnier, and Forrest is a lot smarter (it's told in the first person, so we see his thought process) than in the movie; it's definitely AIDS. I recommend the book, it's been a while since I read it, but it's pretty good, but not really a feel-good thing. It's like they took the very bare bones of it to construct the movie--book Forrest would have hated movie Forrest.

Also, because Shan made me think of this, in FI's squad they refer to each other by rank and first name (i.e. Lt. Jim or Cptn. Cindy) and he has a co-worker named Dan. Lt. Dan. FI didn't catch this until he was telling me about the people he was working with and I busted out laughing.

I love it when the book version of something is darker than the movie. I shall read this book now.

Honestly, I didn't even know there was a book. For shame!
