Military Brides

Hello!

Hi ladies! My fiance is in the coast guard and is stationed in Jacksonville, FL. We are both very new to the military lifestyle as he just graduated boot camp September 9th. I am currently living in CT and we are getting married in CT with our friends and family present. We got engaged 10.02.11 and our wedding date is 04.15.12.

Pull up a calendar, Kendall.  Not that hard.  It's a Sunday.

Hi Megan!  You should come around the CT board - they're super helpful with vendors and stuff.  I've planned my whole wedding from Miami, and now that I have all my vendors booked it seems ridiculously easy.  I couldn't have done it without all their tips and advice though!  I'm getting married 9.1.12 in CT to a Marine.

The wedding is going to be a Sunday. The ceremony will be starting at 3:30pm. We have a venue secured but thats about it. I am toying back in forth with how much "nautical" involvement I want with in the wedding, aside from him wearing his dress uniform. We also cannot decide on colors. I was thinking navy blue and lime, but then I  found these gorgeous purple and blue flowers so I am back at square one. It's a lot to plan all on my own with only some help when he's not working!

I'm a big fan of Navy blue and lime, I think it looks super sharp (and preppy):

I posted a bunch of Nautical pics in another thread today for a girl who was looking to encorporate the Navy into her theme.  I really suggest going "nautical" and "anchor" rather than "Navy" since that's just him and not you, ya know?  Weddings should be, in my opinion, about the couple rather than one of their careers.  Unless it's an obsession for you both, like Stan who had a full-on America & USMC themed wedding that turned out fabulous!

Again... you make my head hurt.  If you were seriously curious, you could look it up.

I think thats the page that made me want the lime and green! However I am concerned at how the groomsmen would look in black tuxes with blue bridesmaids, the thought makes me squirmy lol. I don't really like black and navy together. Also I have dress trying on set for Saturday Oct 15.

Yay for trying on dresses!  I really was afraid of it since I'm heavier than I'd like to be, but it was one of my favorite things.

I think if you do maybe a royal blue rather than a navy the difference is more obvious and it goes really well with the black.  Like this:

Royal blue would be nice, but wouldn't match with his dress blues lol These are the flowers I love, he hated. http://kiokreations.com/2010/07/a-bold-blue-purple-and-lime-green-wedding-at-the-wyndham-2/

I have just lost 50 lbs. I had weight loss surgery in August, so dress shopping will be really difficult, I should be atleast 50 lbs less than.

Good for you!!! YAY!!! I had a love/hate dress shopping experience.  I loved my dress but hated going into some of those bridal stores.  I didn't like being man handled by the sales people.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" /> Then of course I almost passed out when I saw the price tags on some of the dresses.

    I love the flower choice!

True, some bridal salons had horrible service.

Good for you on the weight loss - be sure to ask about how far they can be taken in, as I imagine you'll lose more weight between now and the wedding!

Don't try to match the dress blues.  They're meant to be a neutral.  I think that royal blue would go nicely with them - it's complimentary, doesn't clash.

Oh neat! We're being mean and making everyone come here. LOL. We are NAS Jacksonville - it's about 30-45 minutes inland from Mayport.

Edit: Sorry I didn't read the getting married in CT part - I got excited to see another Jville lady. :)

Hi and welcome!!! Another coastie to add to our diversity  here :)
H and I are Navy so we went with blue and yellow..
I SOOOO badly wanted blue and green (like what Calindi posted.. love love love) but those are Seahawks colors (my football team) and I didn't want every single person asking at the wedding if that's why we chose those colors, lol!

Take tons of pictures when you go dress shopping! it'll help you decide.. and we love dress-porn :):)

How long have you and your Fi been together?
What are you doing in life? School? Mom? Work?

Congratulations and let us know if you ever need any opinions on anything :)

    HELLO and Welcome.

The one thing I will say about flowers, they come in all colors now. ;) AND for me I wanted flowers that were pretty but low maintence-- didn't want to have to spray them or worry they would wilt in the sun etc. So that narrowed our options especially hydrangea which is what I think you pictured. Just a fyi. We did Amethyst for BM dresses, paper and an accent color in our flowers....  (I love blue and purple, but none of our BM liked the blue choices for dresses)

ETA: a better pic of the flowers

  • edited December 2011
shan I freakin love all your pictures..
And totally agree on the hydrangeas.. Ours did just fine for the ceremony and looked great, but then keeled over asap haha.. At least they lasted for the important part ;)
