Fun fact... I've never been flamed. I mean, I GOT INTO IT with people (well I'm sure many of you have seen this happen) and there was this one troll who "loved" me... but I've never been flamed.

I have a funny mix of accents (from living in Canada and having a British mum and being a South African). I'm from Sandton (just outside Jo'Burg) but I grew up in a small city in Natal on the East Coast.

I took a little bit when I first started posting, but I didn't want to turn tail and run away like a child. I figured since everyone else that says they got flamed pretty bad and were now accepted that it was just a little hazing that made you stronger. And it's just way more fun over here than other boards.

I was (as I saw it) only mildly flamed - and I deserved it; so it didn't shy me away from coming back. At least I think it was here...it might have been SB.

Well, I got mildly flamed for two things: one, being married twice before. I expected that, and I get it. It's weird. I know. But other people were nice about it and I didn't feel run off or anything like that.

I got flamed for coming across as an obnoxious parent. I'm not, or at least I try very hard not to be, but upon reflection I could completely see how I'd come across that way. So the flame didn't hurt - it made sense.

Someone also just said that I "bugged" but I wasn't all that fond of that poster anyway, at least at that time. I wasn't sure what I'd done to bug her, but whatever - not everyone will be your friend.

The other early flames were for jumping in too early and saying things too strongly. I honestly think I could say the same things now and not get called out because people "know" me a bit better. But I definitely came on too strong for a newb. So I understand where the flames came from.

I go nuts when people comment on mine because they always get it wrong. It's better if I'm in a group of people because I sound more Canadian then but one-on-one and over the phone I definitely don't. Plus I slip and use SA slang a lot and nobody understands me. And people generally guess I'm an Aussie which, being a South African, makes me

I don't know why I stuck around. I kept trying to post and get people (other than MrsE) to talk to me. There were a few who did, but I was mostly ignored. There was one time when I posted about going back to the US and being excited. The only response it got was from Daff and it said "Who are you?" heh.

The main person that flamed me here was Daff, and by the time she did I was already so into it that it wasn't going to drive me away. She tried really hard too, especially when Frankie was banned, but I just wasn't falling for it. I didn't leave, we learned to live peacefully.

I was flamed by Fenton pretty bad on the AFSB board when we were in the old format and they were still there. I stopped posting there. They all scared me. They were like the seniors and I was a freshman.

Alix I would kind of love to hear your accent. My mom grew up in Quebec, and moved to California in middle school, but she doesn't have any accent left. I don't think she does anyways. She just sounds like my mom.

I was flamed by melissaclaire? or laurensomething? or whatever her screenname is. It's not LC, and it's not marissaclaire. She flamed me for saying I was going to tell H I had a headache that night, when it was clearly sarcasm when I said it. So it was just a dumb flame to me and didn't scare me off.

I think the only thing people ever flamed me about was being dumb. AC called me dumb, and Fishy and M&M did too. I know I'm not stupid, so I shrugged it off. I'm not saying I didn't say something dumb, but I know I'm not inherently stupid, so it mostly just rolled off my back. People were nice enough to me for me not to get down about getting flamed, so I stayed.
