Question for Orthodox Christian brides

I know there are barely any, and the Knot doesn't have a board for us, but I have a question for any Orthodox Christian brides.  Can you recommend a candle that I can carry that won't drip wax on my dress?  My mom claims that the specialty candles you can buy online won't drip, but I am paranoid that they might.  Thanks in advance!

I'm not Orthodox Christian but I"m wondering if you couldn't use a flameless candle? They have battery operated ones that flicker. Or you could have a nice thing on the bottom like they do at Christmas Eve services. We've had paper rings around them or plastic things and then if it does drip it would drip onto the holder. You could probably find something nice in metal or fake crystal.

They make aluminum candle sleeves at most of the Christian stores and there is a spring in the bottom to keep the candle at the top of the aluminum sleeve.  We use them for our candle stands in our church so you don't get that "burned down" candle look when the candle has been burning for a while.  I don't know if they're called 'candle sleeves' online but I'm sure if you look at places like Lifeway Christian Stores you can find something that might work.

You might also put some thick lace around the middle or top 1/3 of the candle if you don't want the aluminum candle sleeve, and the lace could catch any drippings just in case.

    Good luck with your search!!

Unfortunately, the candle has to be a real candle, but that's a good idea nonetheless.  Most of the candles I see do have big bows and ribbons around them, and I don't know if that's what keeps the wax from dripping or what.  Thanks!

Did you try looking the numerous Orthodox bookstores?  I am sure they must have something since you wouldn't be the first bride to go through this.  Let me know if you find something!  I need to find something too as I hate wax dripping on my hands.  Pasche is the worst for that!  lol.  From the quick research I did it, it looks like Bees wax candles are the best... but keep them out of a draft which is hard to do if the decon is around.  BTW what church do you attend?  Seeing as we are both in NC.
Try this site.  Looks like you have to hand role them but hey if it doesn't drip?

    BEESWAX or
BEESWAX TAPER CANDLES might be your best bet.  Good luck finding something! :)

Hey there!  Right now, I am living in Washington, DC, but I grew up in San Francisco and will get married there.  My wedding will be at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.  My parents got married there; I was baptized there; and I attended the grammar school there until they shut it down.  But now I attend St. Nicholas National Cathedral (OCA) in DC.  How about you?  It's nice to see a fellow Orthodox Christian on the boards!

I actually called up an online Orthodox Christian store (Portara), and they recommended getting wide candles to avoid dripping wax.  I'll also check the beeswax.  Thanks for the tips!

Sounds lovely!  Glad you can get married in the church you were baptized in!  How special :)  I am up in the boonies of Placerville(2 1/2 hours away from San. Fran). .  I go to St. Elias Orthodox church(Russian but a mostly convert church in fact I think we are the only English liturgy church).  I haven't been to your church but if it is in San. Fran I bet it is lovely! :)  Ya it is!  I was feeling so lonely! :)
Well that is good.  I hope you find something that works great :)

It is a beautiful church.  I think it's the oldest Greek church west of Chicago.  Hehe, I definitely understand what it is like being in a convert church.  My church here in DC is 40% converts, including the priest.  Though it's Russian, the liturgy I attend there is all in English.  It's kind of nice having converts, as it makes it so international.  We have all sorts of diverse groups, and the priest's wife is Japanese (in fact, she was raised Orthodox in Japan).  Are you a convert yourself?
