In Response to Re: What's the coolest thing you've done? AW it here : I was there for a study abroad program and lived with a host family. While I was there, I interviewed Indian women about their lives and wrote a play about it. It was amazing.. I spoke with women from a Bollywood star to a servant to a high-powered businesswoman. It was so amazing. I kept a blog when I was there, and an actress followed it and is thinking about pitching my play to a director she knows. I doubt anything will come of it, but it would be cool :)

    That would be so cool!
Someone posted a link to "Touch Me" and I have been listening to Spring Awakening somewhat obsessively ever since. How awesome to see that cast! Dodgers, that is so sweet. Where are you guys going?
    Posted by jasmineh7777
We are going to Guatemala. My mom hasn't been back since she first came over here at age 4. My grand went back like in 1990. I really want to see where my family comes from. I don't want to tell her that I am planning to take her because I know she will try to tell no.
  • Does your H know about this arrangement Katie?

I wish we could do a production of Spring Awakening.
I was a hooker in a production of Les Miserables once. Best. part. ever.

Go wherever you can as soon as you can. I had never even been on a plane till I was 39. And since I have been to SF,Napa, Hawaii, Jamaica, Paris, and  Ireland. Germany will probably be next soon as I get my passport changed.

My most moving experience was evening mass at Notre Dame. It was unbelievable.
I lived in China for a year when I was 18.  I just did the English teaching things, but it really directed my studies after that, because I ended up doing Chinese at university.  Also, being a very pale skinned redhead in China was kind of interesting. He's hot.  I studied abroad in Denmark.

I love how over there, the royalty are like celebs and there are always stories about their love lives and dramaz in the rag mags.
  • Heels, yours turned out to be one of the coolest ones on here.  And that's saying a LOT.  What an interesting group of people!
  • Ooh, I saw the Queen of England and Prince William when I was in London!  It was from very far away, but if you zoom in a whole lot on the pictures I took, it looks like I was right there.

    Do tell.

KD- We are hoping to take a trip to Ireland next year. I also want to go to Poland and Italy, because I still have family there. But, I've never been on a plane, and I'm claustraphobic, so I'm going to take lots of sleepy drugs.

I've been to Wisconsin to visit my uncle's dairy farm, and to the Children's Hospital in Utah. That's it.

  • Aw thanks OWN!  I don't agree, but I appreciate you saying that.
  • I'm always shocked when people have never flown, been in a cab, taken public transpo, etc. I think living in Alaska flying was a must because you can't exactly drive anywhere quickly (except the boonies of Canada).

jasmine, I found it but it has my last name on it. If we're friends on FB, it's under "my web site." I don't have access to my old e-mail address from college, so I don't think I can edit out my last name in the entries :(

ETA: Just PM'd it to you :)

Heels, yours was pretty cool. I went on a couple mission trips in high school that sound similar to what you did (seriously, how much help am I, as a wimpy 15 yr old girl, putting up drywall?), but the people you helped sound awesome.  How cool would it be to remember her stories?
  • The coolest thing I currently do is working with a little guy that has autism. It has pretty much changed my life and helped me focus my education and career plans.

  • It may not be AW worthy but I met OJ Simpson while he was on trial for the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson. I even saw the blood spats on the entry way of Nicole's condo as well.

  • You guys are so amazing!

I studied abroad in Germany for a semester.  When I was there, I visited 12 different countries, as well as all the EU institutions.

I got into a PhD program, so I'm pretty stoked about that.
  • Thanks Poli! I have a facebook, but I don't ever do anything with it. *goes to check PMs*

Roxy- We were pretty poor when I was growing up. My older brother had cancer, so our trips were to and from his treatment. Flying wasn't an option at the time.
I wish we'd done it though, because I am totally intimidated by it now.

  • Ive done a ton of sprint triathlons and I ran a marathon and 3 half marathons. I bike an MS150 and 2 Tour de Cure rides. I also went skinny dipping in the Tyrrhenian/ Mediterranean Sea in Nice, FR when I was in college.

I can't think of anything else.

  • Come September, I will have lived in four countries and visited many more.  But in the meantime, this is probably the "craziest" thing I've done:

I would really LOVE to go again.  And to get DH to go, but he's chicken ;)

  • I was an exchange student in France and traveled all over in a giant circle, I got to see all the nooks and crannies and all the tourist sites, it was awesome.

I don't expect anyone to really appreciate this, but I went to the movie "Shortbus" premiere and after party, where I met John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Shortbus) and got to tell him the impact Hedwig had on me. Amazing.

    Two words: Burning Man.

back when I worked in tv news.. I produced parts of my station's broadcasts for two presidential debates.. one of which was the first in the nation for the last presidential race.. I've met or seen all the candidates....I interviewed a couple of them... The two debates topped it though.. one was in conjunction with CNN and one with ABC.. both times I got to meet random cool various anchors/reporters (diane sawyer, Anderson cooper, candy crowley)....

That is great.  I've worked in daycare for pretty much my entire working life and have had some life changing experiences working with autistic children.
  • I go to a job every day where I get beaten up in the name of trying to help children.  Most people think that's pretty awesome.  I'm not so sure.

As a journalist... I swoon at this :)

But I am loving all these travel experiences - the only country I've been to outside the US is Canada, I'd definitely like to be more traveled as life goes on.
In Response to Re: What's the coolest thing you've done? AW it here : Knittibell, when I was 15, I volunteered at the yacht club to help my dad at the world championships for the class of boat the prince sails.  I was working in the registry office for the competition, and in walks the prince and his two crewmen (both over 7 ft I think) for their registration.  Part of the registration process is to be weighed in to make sure you're not at an advantage weight wise, and they were waaaaaaay overweight (being over 7 ft tall will do that I think), so they decided, in full view of many people just to strip off!  So now I know that he wears Calvin Kleins.  Seriously a weird day.  He did it again the next day when they were still trying to come in under weight limits!
