Help me bring up a sensitive subject with my husband

Re: Help me bring up a sensitive subject with my husband

  • It really depends on your insurance, AATB.  When H didn't have insurance his wisdom teeth cost us $400 per tooth to pull.  After insurance?  $26.

  • Everyone else has suggested what I was going to say, but if you need anymore anecdotal evidence that not going to the dentist is bad, I have a story: H hadn't been to the dentist in several years because for a period of time he didn't have insurance, then when he got insurance he was just too lazy. He went back in November and: 3 cavities, root canal and he has to have oral surgery soon. All because he didn't go to the dentist.
  • Tell him you wont kiss him anymore until his teeth are cleaned LOL. Thats how I finally ended up getting my ex to go, and it turned out he has tons of cavitys and we had to pay over 3k in dental bills and he had to get two teeth pulled, lovely to think I had all his nasty rotten teeth bacteria in my mouth everytime we kissed.

  • This reminds me, I need to go to the dentist soon lol.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to tell him that.

  • I like the idea of asking him if he'd like an appointment the next time you go and go together.

Or, get pregnant.  Having a baby made DH go in to the doctor for the first time in 5+ years to make sure he was doing OK and would be able to provide for our family :)  He was very proud when he came home because he had good blood pressure and cholesterol.  It was cute.

  • I know we already talked about this, but I'd probably play up the financial angle. My teeth aren't that bad, AND I don't drink soda, so yeah, if he doesn't take super amazing care of them, he's probably going to wind up with pain issues later where he'll have to go and it'll cost a ton of money.
  • When the hell did I start calling it soda? Gd it.
  • Lol any, I call it soda too and no one does where I live.

Ps, when we talked about your teeth yesterday - THAT is what prompted me to ask Ben about his last dental visit.  And then I had a hard time sleeping, lol.

Lol, it's okay, so did I. Especially when I figured out what we still have to pay for for wedding stuff today.

My FI hadn't been to the dentist since he was a little kid...after 3 years of dating, I finally just set an appointment up for him, cost be damned! It helped that my little sister is a dental hygenist and was able to work out a deal with her dentist where the cost was very minimal for us.

He is so much happier with his smile now and takes suuuuch better care of his teeth. My sister was able to remove some staining that had made FI self conscious (wouldn't smile in photos), so now he's PROUD to smile and wants to maintain it!

Maybe your FI doesn't understand that oral health is as important as it is? Next time YOU go to the dentist, maybe pick up some pamphlets to give to him? Or your dentist might have some suggestions for how to nudge someone into the dentist chair :)
