Getting in Shape

Monday New Members

Hi All,
I've been following this board for a few weeks now and figured I'd join in on the conversations.  I have a long weight loss journey ahead, as I plan to lose a significant amount of weight, but I am trying to do it as healthy as possible.  I don't just want to lose to look good in my dress, I want to make a lifestyle change and your posts have helped kickstart the process.  I need to be accountable to and talk with others, I get discouraged easily.  I'm looking forward to my time here on this board... happy weight loss to all :)

Re: Monday New Members

  • You ever see a really fit or pretty girl and wonder, how did she get that body?  Well you can learn here!

Plenty of the posters on this thread have success stories to tell, and tell us how they got that body, what they eat and what they do physically.

Just reading that this person does cardio 4X a week, this person jogs 4 miles a day, this person does strength training, this one does an hour of kickboxing a day etc.. you can get the idea that it TAKES WORK to get the body you want.

In this society, a lot of the food is processed, even a lot of our everyday foods we love.. and we think we are eating healthy foods but their are secret ingredients in a lot of the foods today that they didn't have in the 1950's.

How come everyone was skinny back then and they didn't work out but everyone is "fat" today and have to work out to get that body. One reason is the way foods are preserved and processed.  They didn't have microwaves in the 1950's so no tv dinners or lean cuisines.

  • Hi everyone.  I'm new to the boards also, so thought I'd introduce myself.  I'm looking to make a lifestyle change and get in shape again.  I've found a lot of great inspiration here, so I look forward to sticking around!

  • Welcome!  Your goals are much the same as mine. I've lost about 40 lbs since January and have more to go... went dress shopping yesterday after finding a store that FINALLY had multiple styles I have been looking for... and couldn't fit into the size 10 samples AT ALL to see how they'd look on me.  BOO!  My workout at the gym this morning was proportionately that much more inspired. Maybe I'll go back in another month and try again. :)

  • I am new to the Board too (have been lurking for a week or two).  Hit 40 at the end of September ... wedding is 9 months away.  So, I decided it was time to get back on track.  I was 30 lbs lighter when I met my fiance 4 years ago - I would love to get back to something in that vicinity by July (especially since I'll also want to sport a bikini on the honeymoon).  I would describe myself as "moderately active" - playing soccer and doing a pole fitness class.  My immediate objective - like many posts I have seen - is to just ramp up the exercise from 3-4 days per week to 7 days per week.  So far, so good.  I joined a gym that I can hit on the days I don't have soccer or class.  I primarily jog (I had great luck with it when trying to lose weight in my mid thirties) but will be adding a bit of core strength training too.  Foodwise, I have been trying to just choose quality and not worry to much about quantity yet.  If I am hungry, I strive to eat REAL food - nothing packaged, processed.  I usually have some grains still at dinner but have managed to get away from eating bread or othe baked goods at breakfast and lunch.  And, most importantly... I am OFF COFFEE!  Today is Day 8 of no coffee, no caffeine.  Surprisingly, it has been easy but I think my determination/commitment to taking better care of myself is at an all time high.  Time will tell though... first weigh in is Friday!

    Good luck everyone!

  • Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this board as well, and I've already found it really helpful!

If anyone is looking for a calorie tracker, Calorie Count is a really good resource and also has a pretty big recipe section as well.  Check it out!  I use it, and its a good reminder that calories can add up quickly! :)

  • New to the boards too. Getting married in Oct 2011. Hoping to drop 15 pounds before I start dress shopping. Right now I'm using the App Lose It to keep track of my calories and I own an elliptical I'm going to start using more.
  • I posted this on another board but thought it might be interesting.
Have you tried the "small" meal thing?  I just started last week as i'm coiming up on the 1 year till we get married and I would like to loose about 40lbs.  I joined LIVESTRONG.COM which allows you to track your food and water and shows you what your % of food intake is.  I like it becuase it is free.   Anyway if you are a planner, then you will do fine.  Here is a sample of my day 1 food intake.

    9am-
Egg white omlet with mushrooms, spinach and onions
Cup of Fat Free Cottage Cheese
    Cup of Fresh strawberries

    11am
    Grapfruit

    1pm
thin and trim turkey about (4 slices) over salad (about 2 cups of fresh spinach) tomatoes, onions, cucumbers with 2 tbs lite ranch dressing

    3pm
    cheese stick
    apple

    6pm
1 cup. butternut squash soup (made from a reduced calorie recipe)
6 oz boneless skinless chicken breast baked
    1 cup of wildrice

I WAS NEVER HUNGRY.  i have done a million diets and granted its only day 4 of eathing like this but i have not been hungry.  this is the most ive eaten in a long time and the entire day and the total CALORIE COUNT for the day was 1620.    And i started running again so hopefully it will be a healthy way to drop the lbs.   I also like that it combines a "map my run" application that you can add your specific route to your daily work out
  • I am not new to the boards, but I am new to losing weight.

I think I started posting here back in May after my wedding unlike most others who need to lose weight BEFORE their wedding

.  I didn't need to worry about fitting into my dress.  I didn't even work out or do anything.  I didn't even go on a diet.  I had no worries.  However..

I gained some weight on the honeymoon in May and also some over the summer and I joined in to the discussions to learn a lot .

But what I learned the most is that exercise is very imporant.

I am already starting to see results.  My clothes feel more loose.  I feel more toned everywhere.  It is just starting now in arms and back.. and calves.. and starting with the hams and quads.. glutes are the hardest but deadlifts are helping.

I am still learning and trying new moves new videos.  Glutes are hard to get to shape up.

More cardio and more keeping at it and I will be there before I know it.
