    I think what most of us were arguing is that we do not see corporal punishment as proper or effective period. Or those who see it as okay in limited circumstances see it as something that only a parent should decide to use. It is NOT on the same level as a detention, in school suspension, or time-out.

    Also, I almost won a geography bee in 6th grade. It is one of my fortés. I'm pretty okay with Canadian cities.

    I was that same kid, except for the cheerleader part. I was gifted and bored too and I got in trouble because of it. I don't think the paddling scarred me at all. We didn't have detention, and missing recess wasn't that big of deal to me, but the paddling was a deterrant. Just the possibility of it made me think twice about what I was doing. I only speak from my own experiences.

    i was only a cheerleader for 1 year. and i was godawful at it. i'm not bendy at all. poor steve.

    i'm not scarred by my paddlings, either. i appreciated the option. but i think most parents don't want other people spanking their children, so it really doesn't work as an option anymore.

    One of my coworkers always compares things to a bag of dead babies. Like "wow, you're about as much fun as a bag of dead babies". It really shouldn't make me laugh, but it does.
