Sandals St. Lucia vs. Other Islands for our Honeymoon

Hi, Knotties!  I was wondering if any of you who had done the Sandals St. Lucia--or ANY island honeymoon for that matter--could give us some advice on going to either Sandals St. Lucia or any other islands for our honeymoon.

At first we really wanted to go to St. Lucia, but then we heard we couldn’t hotel-hop or do as many activities as u can in Jamaica.

Do you guys also know which activities aren’t included in the supposedly “all-inclusive” vacation at Sandals St. Lucia?
Of those non-included activities, if you could help us by giving an approximate (if not exact) cost on how much they cost (like massages, zip lining, etc.) so that we can better decide on if we should still do st. lucia or not, that would be SO amazingly helpful!  And, if you have any other tips we should know about if we were to go to st. lucia, that would also be great.

If there are other islands that any of you Knotties think totally blows St. Lucia away and you would recommend over that, please let me know so we can look into those too.  are there all-inclusives in Bora Bora, Fiji, or other similar islands?
Thanks guys! Sorry for all the Q’s!  Since we only have one honeymoon, we just want to make sure we pick the best one for us.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! n congrats to you all!!!! =)

  • This should help answer some of your questions. We have a review of Sandals Grande St. Lucian and Sandals Negril as well as over 300 pics from both places.
Also, you CAN hop between Sandals in St. Lucia. Google Sandals and pull up their website it will tell you what is included in the AI.
If you have any questions please feel free to page me.

  • I recommend looking into The Reefs in Bermuda- its amazing or RIU in Aruba

My 2 BM's went to St. Lucia Grande and both talked me out of Sandals and St. Lucia- they said the rooms were "used" and nothing like what was promised.  You also have to get a butler to have outstanding amenities.  THey also said there isnt much to do and gets boring..  They talked me out of it... Did The Reefs last year and will do RIU in August...

  • We were in the same predictament  at first were checking out Tahiti and Bora Bora and Moorea but once we found out the price tag the sticker shock steered us away.

We also used www.myislandgetaways.com Nancy (she specializes in St. Lucia) and she found us the perfect honeymoon for half of what Tahiti would have been in St. Lucia at Sandals Regency. She also gave us so much inside information and tips that made our honeymoon even better and a great price. We went to all three of the resorts and the shutlles were included so we had alot of choices for restaurants.

We had the coolest room up on top of the mountain with our own private pool and Butler and had a dream honeymoon.Everything just about was included outside of a few excursions we did and spa treatments. We loved St. Lucia and would go back in a heartbeat. Good Luck
  • I am going to Sandals Regency in St. Lucia June 6-13 for my honeymoon. While I'm perfectly content sitting on a beach or by the pool for a week, FI will get tired of it after 3 days, we wanted an island with some fun things to do, it has mountains and a rainforest as well... We booked a zip line excursion, it is $100/pp...from what we have heard it is well worth it. Off hand I can't tell you everything that is included in your stay other than food, drinks, and resort activities.

We opted for the regency because it was the medium sized resort, it had a little bit of everything, and we both like to golf(it has a course).

The grande is pretty much all younger couples on their honeymoons(we are younger as well) but apparently can get pretty rowdy at times? The Halcyon is more of the older crowd and can be "boring" if you want any type of nightlife?

During our planning, we found out that the daughter of the owner of our reception hall stayed at the regency in St. Lucia. We spoke with her about the resort, she had nothing but good things to say about St. Lucia, the zipline, and the amenities.

She also said all three resorts are gorgeous....so yes you can go to all three if you choose.

We have also heard that it is a must to go into Soufriere which is not far from any of the sandals...we plan on renting a car for the day and going for a drive!

I'll let you know how my trip was when I get back if you'd like!

  • We're going to St. Lucia- Sandals Grande in early August. We chose it because we had come into contact with many other newly wed couples that raved about it. You are absolutely allowed to hotel hop to the 2 other resorts.

Tara- I'm glad to hear we chose the rowdy resort! Sounds awesome. I can imagine some couples aren't into that though.

    Happy Honeymoon Planning Girls.
  • Ali, apparently the grande has the best beaches...I forgot to mention that :)

My take on vacations is this...you are on a tropical island. How bad can it really be? Laughing

I just want to get there already!!

My thoughts exactly! All I need is my toes in the sand and a cold one in my hand... oh, and my future DH. haha.

    Can't wait to go!
  • Hehehe...I love pp who said about Grande being younger couples. Thank you, you just made my day. Dh and I are in our mid and late 30's.  We act like we are in our 20's though LOL. I can honestly say though when we were there the big pool area was the "party" area but even that wasn't roudy. Damn, I wish it had been :)
  • Thanks to all of you who provided your help and input!  Tara, i do have to say that it looks like you had a lot of great things to say to make us fellow knotties happy!

Yeah, my fi and i think that relaxing on an island, stuffing our faces with all we can drink and eat sounds TERRIFIC!  We just wanted to make sure we are making the right decision as we hope to only have one honeymoon and to make it a wonderful one.

yes, happy honeymoon planning to all of you! =)

  • I just got back from Sandals Grande St. Lucian for my honeymoon, I plan to post a full review sometime next week.

Anyway, we liked sandals.  There is a lot to do at the resort, and we also spent time at the other 2 sandals on the island for dinner.

We did an excursion to Soufriere and saw the volcano, botanic gardens and went snorkeling.  It was $225 for both of us, but well worth it in my opinion.  The other side of the island was much prettier, it felt like we were in Jurassic Park or something!

We also paid extra for the Candlelight dinner, which was $170.  Also well worth it.

I'll post a more in depth review soon, but if you have any specific questions, let me know!

  • mbf124, where was your candle dinner? We booked ours! It said it would be anyway between beach, pier, balcony or gardens depending on availaibilty. Was it worth the price tag?
  • mbf124 - Looking forward to your review!

  • all of the candlelight dinners are between the beach and the area where the cabanas are...there are at least 10 every night and you aren't far from the next table, but it was still romantic and we loved it.  I think you can request to be closer to the water if you want.

  • I hate to be blunt...but how much did you gals pay if you dont mind sharing, including plaine tickets?

We have been looking at the sandals stlucia resorts website and it looks like itas about 4800 and that before tickets. Did you go with a travel agent and did it save you money or just give you more information about your trip?

    thank you!!!

if you dont want to post the price you can message me personally

  • Yes definitely not the cheapest honeymoon option, but I guess my first choice was Tahiti, which makes St Lucia Sandals look pretty affordable.

We are planning on staying in a concierge room - which is about $760 a night.  The cheapest room seems to be about $550 a night...hmm...wonder if the concierge is worth it.

Anyway - for us, staying 8 nights is around ~$6000 then add flights to that ($550 a piece).

Oh - I wanted to add that we went through a travel agent (I just wanted someone to deal with any problems besides me! - and we already need to change our flight!) and we got $250 spa credit and a dinner on the beach included.
