I'm Lacey.  My wedding was on 10/23/2010.  I got married at The Bingham House in McKinney.  I have known DH for 4 years.  I was scared that none of our friends would have any fun.  I want to know more about you.  :)

How long you have known your FI?  This July, we will have known each other for four years.
What you are most scared of in the planning process?  I was scared that his parents were going to find some way to convince him not to marry me.  LONG, boring, old story.  With new chapters added every now and then.  :-)
And a question for us.  Some of you just started appearing (maybe you introduced yourself while I was gone) but I'd like to know a little more about you too.

Ok, I'll go although since there are actually people on this late in the day!  I'm usually a lurker.

    Name: Kimberly

    Ceremony/Reception: Our church

Wedding Date: 1/15/11  - I'm not gonna lie...I'm in the planning freak out stage.

How long I've known FI - 8 years, dated 3

Scared of:  That not everything is going to look the way I want it and the reception is going to look like it's being held in a former gym.  Which it is.

Question: Has anyone else dreamt that they were late to the church, with no makeup and hair.   :)

it isn't late in the day for me, this is when my real life actually starts haha

    Name:
    Sara Beth
    Wedding Date:
    May 7, 2011
    Location
    Rockwall
    Ceremony:
First Baptist Church Rockwall (the church I grew up in and still attend)
    Reception:
The Hilton Bella Harbor (for all knotties who posted on my previous posts about it we booked it today!!! and we were able to negotiate a cheaper price)
Length of time I've known my FH:
Robert and I have known each other 5 years we met when his fraternity entered into my sororities annual chili cook off, we dated  for about a year, then didn't speak to each other for about the same amount of time, then circumstances kept throwing us back into each others way and we hung out one time and every old feeling came back and this time we have been together over a year 1/2
Thing I am most scared of:
I am freaking out that no one is going to have a good time, my mom does not want to pay to have alcohol at the wedding bc my parents don't drink and don't believe in it.....even though I have begged for a compromise on beer and wine since we have plenty of family and friends who do....so I am freaking out that people are going to be mad there is no bar and they are not going to have any fun and that my big day will be one big boring catastrophe!!
    Question for seasoned knotties:
What is the best piece of advice could y'all give to someone like me who is doing all of this without the help of a wedding planner? Also, tell us something interesting about you...funny fact....just something silly!

    Ceremony/Reception: Just started looking

    Wedding Date: September 2011

How long I've known FI - 10 years

Scared of:  Spending too much money on a 1 day event

Question: How do you find a venue ....there's seems to be so many and I don't have the time to look at all of them.

    What is your name? Diana
    Wedding Date? 6/14/11 (& 6/18/11)
    Wedding location (if known)?
Ceremony: Flamingo Chapel, Las Vegas, NV
    Reception: La Grange, Dallas, TX
How long you have known your FI?
We met just over 4 years ago when I was asked to join the band we're in... We started dating 3 years ago.
What you are most scared of in the planning process?
Forgetting to do something important... or screwing up the guest list (way more stressful than I expected)... and money (of course)
    And a question for us.
I guess I'd ask if it's normal to always feel like you are behind.  I took a little break from WR stuff, and now I'm like "oh, crap"... even though I have a LOT done already...

What you are most scared of in the planning process? That everything won't come together the way I see it in my head, and that we'll all be sitting around at the reception staring at eachother like idiots.

And Kimberly, I have had multiple wedding nightmares!! NO makeup, no hair, no church, no dress...at least once a week. I can't wait until they're over!

I'm not new - I just mainly lurk. Now that my wedding's getting closer, maybe I'll be less shy :) I'm also only ever on at night, so that factors in.

    What is your name? Marie
Wedding Date? It's in April - less than four months to go!
Wedding location (if known)? I'm another YWCA girl :)
How long you have known your FI? We're just coming up on our two-year anniversary. We knew each other (distantly - we worked in the same place) for a few years before our first date.
What were/are you are most scared of in the planning process? For the whole first year of planning, it was the expense of it. Now that it's getting closer, I'm realizing how quickly it's going to go by and I'm afraid I won't have enough time to visit with everyone as much as I'll want to! (All of our friends/family live far away, so I only see them once a year -- if that.)
Has anyone else dreamt that they were late to the church, with no makeup and hair: That's so funny - I've had a wedding nightmare probably 10 times, and 9 of those times it was about not having my hair/makeup done! It's especially funny because I never do my hair or wear makeup in my day-to-day life, so this should NOT be a nightmare for me!
TJohn20:  What area are you looking in? I searched online a lot, but I mostly found the really budget-friendly venues by questions asked/answered on this board (which is what I was looking for).

    Wedding Date?  June 12, 2011
Wedding location (if known)?  Old Red
How long you have known your FI?  9 years, we started dating in high school
What you are most scared of in the planning process?  That we'll spend all this money and not many people will come...and that my family will get into an argument at the wedding

    Ashlee--what happened to the Tribute?

Sara, yay for the Hilton!  It will be beautiful.  I hope you can work out a compromise on the alcohol.  Maybe you can at least have a champagne toast?

Kat:  I would start by thinking of what is the most important element:  outdoor ceremony, location, budget, want to DIY, don't want to DIY anything, want a blank slate, want an all-inclusive, etc.  Then start by limiting your search to those venues.  Like I knew I wanted an outdoor ceremony/indoor reception so I started there.  It can be very overwhelming--check out our venue sticky for some great suggestions.

And as far as wedding nightmares go, we've all had them!

While no one in my family or Bill's family are alcoholics (mainly occasional drinkers), my dad wanted to make sure that everyone had a good time.  He at the very least would have wanted a champagne toast though.  Is that something that you and your FI can pay for if your parents are the ones paying for the rest of the reception?

They make fun of me for it (gently, gently) but I say to just keep breathing and to not over burden yourself with DIY.  DIY projects require a lot of your time and your commitment and you have to be happy with the outcome.  I didn't do much in the way of DIY because I wanted to take the time to enjoy my engagement and I wanted to spend my last single months having a great time with my family, friends and fiancee.  I would also say that, judging by some of the other girls' experiences, to not be hurt when your wedding isn't the main thing on everyone else's plates.  It would be nice if your BMs help you, etc, but they are not required to do anything really.  Also on that note (and this is easy to say but hard to do):  don't pick someone to be in your bridal party just because they expected it or you are trying to develop a stronger relationship with your FIs sisters/cousins/etc.  It can backfire in spectacular fashion.
