The recipe I use still has vinegar and buttermilk in it.  It is just red chocolate cake without those ingredients.
Just cause it's red doesnt mean it's Red Velvet.

Oh and they used to use beet juice to help make it redder too.

I really dont understand why red velvet cake is SOOOOOOOO popular, it seems that is the only kind of cake anyone ever talksabout now a days. I dont think its that awesome. I also dont understand why most threads around here turn into long cake discussions.

I'm not a reg here, but I love FFF, and this girl pissed me off this week. I'm on her Club board and when I told her she got what she asked for (meaning, the answer to her question), she berated me for being a homophobe. I never mentioned the gay thing... Sorry I don't have eleventy-bazillion gay/trans/bisexual friends like she does, but I live in Kansas (which tends to be a little more on the conservative side, let's be honest)... and I wouldn't side-eye someone just because they have a different sexual orientation than I do.

Thanks for letting me randomly pop in the convo to vent!

  • Katiewhompus is sweet and her talk about ttc certainly hasn't been more frequent than Nebb's talk of interviews and job searching.
  • Oh, I forgot all about the ChitChat debacle last week with the "can I have a bridal shower even though I've been married five years." Fucking moron. And biitch on top of it. Katrina apparently ruined her wedding (although her location said Boston, but I guess maybe she was having a DW in NO, I don't know). Anyway, OP created another SN and wanted us to all believe that the new SN was her BFF coming to defend her. She said some shiit about us not knowing what she went through with Katrina and it pissed me off something awful. I went through Katrina as well, although not in New Orleans. But I was here in Baton Rouge with my friends as they waited to hear if their families were alive and if their houses were demolished. And when I didn't have power for three weeks. It was hard to watch some of my friends lose everything.

  • Since I met my fiance on (in? preposition help, please!) WoW, I was a little annoyed with miss.jawright's post, which came off as overly judgmental of WoW players and their relationships.  WoW is a social game that introduces people to each other and gives them common goals to work towards.  The relationships build from there, just like any other relationships would.  The sidelong looks I get everytime someone asks how we met (and it happens a lot when you're newly engaged) are downright insulting, and I hated to see the same sentiment echoed here.

I didn't comment at the time because the subject was beaten to death (and resolved) long before I saw it, but it still bothered me so I waited to ressurect it here.

Buddy and I didn't meet in (in is correct, I think!) WoW, but we do both play, so we get a lot of people assuming we met that way and making what they think are clever, funny comments about it. I don't even defend it anymore, because what would it matter if that was how we happened to meet? Though I missed the thread, I agree that it's pretty insulting, but though it's getting to be less and less, there will always be people who feel some sense of superiority because they met their partner in a valid way - like a bar - instead of in a game.

I'm with you.  I hate that WoW has gotten SUCH a bad name from people who are addicted.  Not everyone is.

I didn't meet H on the game, but I started playing because he did.  I've actually met some awesome people because of it.

I also kind of understand what Alix goes through with Twilight.  So many people out there hate the stupid game because it's ruined someone's life.  But, much like alcohol and gambling, it doesn't ruin EVERYONE's life.
