AW: Have you ever met anybody famous?

Last night FI and I went to see Alter Bridge, one of our favorite bands at the Royal Oak Music Theater, which is a fabulous place to see a concert. It was a terrific show. The lead singer, Myles Kennedy, is one of the best live performers I've ever seen. They were the co-headliners, and we left after their show because we didn't want to see the last band. As we were leaving I said to FI "Maybe we should walk down the sidewalk by the tour buses, just in case". So we did. And the lead singer was standing out on the sidewalk talking to a couple people! We got to say hey and tell him that we thought the show was great. He is a super low key guy for a rock star, and was really nice. I was just about to ask for a picture when his manager said they had to get going back to the bus. He seemed like he would have stayed and talked more if his manager hadn't rushed him out. Needless to say, it was super cool!!!
(Sidenote: The one bad thing about rock concerts is 50+ year old women wearing croceht tops and pleather leggings...ick)

Earlier this year I also got to meet my favorite pitcher for the Detroit Tigers, Rick Porcello at a signing. It was more formal and controlled, so we didn't really get to talk, but I did get a picture.

So how about you ladies. Have you ever met anybody famous? Bonus for pictures!

I've met a couple of the star players from my football team. They're sort of famous. You may not have heard of them, but ask anyone who follows CFL and they'll know who Milt Stegall is or Doug Brown. One of my fave youtube clips is an awesome catch that Milty made to win a game a few years ago. I LOVE the expression on the other coach's face!!!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBAB1xF_lY4 I unfortunately wasn't at that game (it wasn't a home game). I also met our Premier once (sort of the Canadian equivalent of Governor). He's now Canada's Ambassador to the US.

    That's really cool swhite!!

I've met pretty much everyone on the NJ Devils including a lot of past players also. I met Donald Trump coming out of the Trump Tower in NYC when I was in college.  Bobby Flay at his restaurant in Atlantic City earlier this year.  Wes Craven & the director of Paranormal Activity at a Q&A last year.  Heidi Klum & her kids were a couple tables from me at Nobu once, that was really really cool.  Her kids are GORGEOUS -- she is also obviously haha.  I saw Julia Roberts once after some show she did on Broadway & literally walked into Jodi Foster in front of my college.  I guess I've met/seen a lot of people... perks of living in/near NYC!

    That's cool!

I received a scholarship one time that was sponsored by the Heisman trophy people and they flew me and my family to the Heisman Trophy award presentation in NYC. So we met a ton of NFL and college football players. It was awkward because I didn't really know who any of them were, but apparently they were famous lol.

Oh also, I don't know if she's really that famous but she's an idol to me- we met Jeni Britton Bauer of Jeni's Ice Cream when she was on a book tour. We got to see her do a demonstration and she signed our Jeni's Ice Cream cookbook *swoon*

Yeah, I can imagine that there is a much higher chance of meeting a celeb in NYC than here in Michigan. Although there have been a lot of movies filming in Ann Arbor and Detroit recently because of the tax incentives (which governer Snyder cut. Don't get me started...lol). Jason Segel and Emily Blunt (and John Krazinski was around too, but not in the movie) were filming around my campus for about two months this summer, but I didn't happen to get a chance to see any of it =(

I've never actually met anyone famous, but I saw Mike Roe (the guy from Dirty Jobs and the Ford commercials) at a restaurant two summers ago, and saw Vince Vaughn at a different restaurant last week. Living in Chicago has some perks :) I'm too chicken to walk up to famous people and I don't want to bug them in that kind of setting.

<div>I'm the same way, I wouldn't bother someone if they're sitting there eating or with their family or something like that.  When I saw Bobby Flay in AC, my mom & I were just walking by the restaurant on the off chance that he was there & he was! He was just standing at the bar with a glass of wine & I was really nervous LOL But I figured what the heck, worst he can do is say no I'm not taking a picture with you & then I can go tell everyone & their mother that he's a big a$$hole, but he was super nice.  The picture didn't come out very well though.  If I can find it I'll PIP </div>

My coolest famous meetups, although neither of them really happened to me -

My friend babysits for a couple in Boston - they have one daughter. One day she took the little girl to the NE Aquarium and when she turned around at one point, the girl was talking to another little girl. It was Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's daughter, Violet, and they came around the corner a minute later. The two little girls hung out all day, and my friend got to kick it with freakin' Ben Affleck.

My family goes to LobsterFest in Rockland, ME every summer, and we have spotted a few celebs there over the years. The best, though, was one year when my aunt overheard two women talking excitedly about Billy Joel, and she looked up to see a guy that admittedly did look like BIlly, but couldn't have been him. She walked over to the guy and said, "See those two ladies over there? They think you're Billy Joel. You should go give them a cheap thrill." The man proceeded to laugh his ass off.

The next day in the paper - "Billy Joel comes to LobsterFest!"

I've never seen my aunt turn that red before or since. She spent the rest of the week trying to find Billy Joel to apologize.

My FSIL's parents own a restaurant here in SA. A couple of months ago Bobbie Flay came to do an episode of Dives, Diners and Drive in's there. So I got to meet him.

One time I was with some friends in Austin on 6th street and we went into a restaurrant to eat and some celeb was sitting at a table by the door. They were gushing over him, but honestly I had no idea who he was.

Admittedly I haven't really met anyone too famous. I grew up with King Haku from the WWF, and he is the Rock's "uncle" so I met him at a New Years Eve party long before he was famous. I also know Barbara Corcoran from Shark Tank and she's on the Today show a lot as their real estate expert.

Other than that, I can't really say that I've "met" anyone. I'm so jealous of you ladies who have had that opportunity!

    Oh, man...here we go.

I ran into Mackulay and Rory Culkin in New York City when I was 14. Mackulay was stoned out of his skull. Rory was a sweetheart.

When I was working at TGIF up in Ohio, Mike Johnson from Real World London came in one night for dinner (he had been at the Cleveland Grand Prix that year)...he ended up coming and sitting at a table with my mom and I (I had just gotten off work and was eating dinner) and we talked for like, 20 minutes. Nice guy.

I literally ran into (like, ran smack into) Darius Rucker at the Charleston airport one year heading home for Christmas. Dude is really tall.

I went to see RENT a few years back and Constantine Maroulis was the lead...turns out he knew a longtime friend of mine in NYC. I ended up running into him after the show and talked for, oh, about 30 seconds, and then I got an email from him the next day going, "hey, you were Jen's friend! I was supposed to give you a hug!" lol

Speaking of RENT, during my senior year of high school, my dad took me to see the touring company when they came to Cleveland for my 18th birthday. After the show, he took me to the back stage doors to see if I could get some autographs, but everyone had left. So, we're driving around downtown, and see three of the leads crossing the street in front of us. My dad does a U-turn, pulls up along side them on the sidewalk and goes, "hey, would you guys mind signing an autograph for my daughter?"...and they did. He mentions that this was my birthday gift, and the three actors look at each other, then all the sudden, break out into this harmonized version of Happy Birthday. It was amazing.

Last but not least, I know I've mentioned this one here before, but here goes...

I was in undergrad in Charleston when they were filming Cold Mountain on our campus. I was hanging around outside the set taking pictures, because my dad is a huge history buff and all the actors were in full on Civil War duds. All the sudden, all the extras start streaming out of the courtyard they were filming in and across this tiny little street where we were to go get lunch in the cafeteria. I'm watching them, taking pictures, when all the sudden this guy whips around the corner and runs SMACK into me. I would have hit the ground, but thankfully, he caught my arm in time. He mumbled sorry, winked, and walked off. It wasn't until about 30 seconds later when all the girls walking down the sidewalk started freaking out that I realized that that had been Jude Law.

About 10 minutes after that, I'm standing on the sidewalk, talking pictures of the now empty set (they had put all this vintage signage on the buildings and stuff, it was amazing), when I notice someone slipping onto the set and hear this voice go, "Oh, excuse me hon, don't mean to get in your shot." It's Renee Zelwegger. She looks down at the book I had tucked under my arm (Bridget Jones - Edge of Reason) and we look at each other and start laughing. Ended up standing on the sidewalk talking for a good 15, 20 minutes about the book, Chicago, Charleston, what restaurants to check out downtown, etc. She signed my book and everything. She was probably one of the sweetest, most down-to-earth people I've ever met. Finally, I worked up the courage and asked if she would mind if I took her picture, because no one was going to believe that any of this ever happened. She goes, "I'll do you one better", grabs some guy that had been walking down the sidewalk and hands him my camera, pulls me on the set, and throws her arms around me to take a pic. She ended up ducking out after that, because the crowd around us had been perpetually building once people started to realize who she was. About 20 minutes later, filming starts up again, and I hear someone yell down the sidewalk, "Hey Katie!" ...it's Renee, popping back onto the set, and she's waving at me as she goes in. Everyone around me wants to know how the hell she knows my name...lol. Needless to say, that was probably one of the neatest experiences I've ever had.

    Oceana, you've met ME!  Duh.

The whole MD basketball team were my regulars when I bartended in college.  Some of them have ended up in the NBA and I still hear from them from time to time on FB.  LOL.

I dated a football player or two who have ended up in the NFL.  Unfortunately, neither of them were Matt Leinart, a Heisman trophy winner and even more gorgeous in person, althought I knew him and Carson Palmer due to having physical therapy at the same time.  I've also met Pete Carroll a couple of times and he gave my class a spur of the moment full tour of the athletic building one summer.

I met Will Ferrell at a football game.

I worked at an event that was honoring John Wooden, a UCLA-er, but a great man none the less.  I got to chat with him for 10-15 mins while we were setting up.

One of my friend's from grad school has her own band.  Their music has been featured on several hit shows and they've been touring around for a little bit.  Karmina

I saw a lot of 'stars' while living in LA, but I never cared enough to go up to them.  My cousin works for 20th Century Fox, so I could have gone to red carpet events if I wanted to.  It just never interested me.  If she worked for ESPN, I would have been all over that.

I never met him, but my cousin's stepdad was Jimmy 'The Weasel' Fratianno.  (My uncle's ex-wife married him.)  My mom was very close with my cousin, because my cousin spent a lot of time at my grandparents house when my mom was young.  My mom stayed at their (Jimmy's) house while she was visiting and when they woke up in the morning, all of the tires on her car had been slashed.

ETA: I also met George Lucas and Steven Speilberg at an event on campus.

Last year I stood in line to meet Will Wheaton at PAX East. he was the nicest guy ever and had given a great speach. Who wouldn't want to meet the king of the nerds?!?!

Also my friend Terri gets us into a lot of movie screening for her work and I got the meet Aaron Sorkin after a screening of the Social Network. He's so articulate and great. I was too nervous to go up to Armie Hammer and swoon since his wife was there.

    That's so cool!

I used to hang out with a couple of the St. Louis Blues Players when I was a single lady lol

Also K-Rod and Miguel Cabrera a family friends. I haven't seen Miguel in YEARS, but here is a pic of me and my cousin's best friend with K-Rod the last time he was in St. Louis to play the Cards :)

Also, I got to hang out all night with The Academy Is, back in college. After I cam e home from their concert one of my friends was like, "Oh, yeah. They are cool guys. I went to high school with them." So she called them and we hung out all night at a few bars and the chilled on their tour bus until they had to head to their next show :)

I met Daughtry at a concert about 2-3 years ago. My girlfriend got us backstage passes because she's a concert fanatic and she's cool like that! Here's a pic...my hair is curly in this one...

I've also met the owner of Nike (Mr. Knight). He and his wife live right down the street from my aunt and uncle in Oregon and they've actually been friends since before Nike was started. We stayed at their beach house once...pretty sweet!

BF and I met Adele Arakawa on a flight to Las Vegas once. She's a news anchor for NBC here in Denver, so most of you probably haven't ever heard of her.

I saw (from a distance) Motley Crue in Heathrow airport when I was in middle school. Everyone was freaking out, but I honestly didn't know who they were.
