Good morning and Vote for the new cover

Good morning all!

Good news here, my H had his 2 month follow-up with his doc yesterday and he lost 10lbs and his triglycerides went down 300 points!  The doc said that was "tremendous" progress.  So yay!

Also, you guys can vote on the cover of the Summer 2010 Knot Magazine.  A lot of us mods are featured in this issues, and since two of the options include dogs which I know some of you feel strongly about, I thought you might want to vote!  The link will open in a new window.

  • GOOOO Mr. Liza!!! That's great news!

Of course, the one with the dog and the man are ahead. I voted for number two, but for no real reason other than I just thought it looked cleaner.

I don't want to go to work today. It's been a long week and it's only wednesday. STUPID.

Oh tell me about it.  I did NOT want to get out bed this morning.  It's so windy and cold and snowy here, plus work is a real bore.  ;)

  • YAY for Mr. Dani! :)  That's really awesome.

Ditto Fische.  I don't like the look of the one with the man AND the dog.

I must say, the dog is an excellent choice.  It's a Lola dog.  Bostons are such fun pups.  I didn't realize until AFTER I got her that they're used in A LOT of advertising.

Kinda like when you buy a car and suddenly see the same car EVERYWHERE.

Yeah I am.  I had two job interviews a few weeks ago and both called me for second interviews but I turned them both down.  One was a $16k per year pay cut which I just couldn't handle and the other just wasn't right for me.  So I'm applying for a lot of stuff but just being patient and knowing that I want to make the right move, not just jump ship the first chance I get.  I'm working on having a more positive attitude about my current situation and that's been helping.

  • I figured people around here might not like the dog ones b/c so many people are all "Don't use dogs as props!" and don't like dogs in weddings.

  • Aww! Well good for you! It's nice to interview for a job when you already have one. I'm kind of weird, but I don't even like turning down jobs. I always feel like I wasted their time, but I like to do interviews to keep my skills up and my options open.

Yeah me too, and sometimes you just don't know about a job until you go their offices and meet the people and hear more detail, which is how it was for me.  The interviews for both were really valueable though as far as hearing questions and tweaking my answers.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Please forgive my stupidity, but do you mean like you just do this randomly.  As in, even if you're not planning on leaving your job?? Or just that you feel you benefit from an interview even if the job isn't for you?

Dani - I didn't really think about the dog as a prop or it being used in the wedding.  It's just a cute lil pup and I wanna smoosh it's face with kisses.

I am the same way. I love interviewing. You never know, you might actually find something better. I JUST accepted a new position last night and I wasn't even looking for it.
  • I voted for #2 as well. I wouldn't want a dog at a real wedding, but Boston Terriers photgraph so well, I couldn't help myself.

I didn't want to get up either. It's windy and in the 20's here, which is about as cold as it gets here, and I have a suspense I've been procrastinating on. Also, I have this rash that started on my hands and feet and has slowly crept up my legs and arms and has turned into hives and is inching its way up to my back, so I'll be going to the doctor this afternoon. I thought it was from when I did some yardwork, but it won't go away.

    Today is just super blah.

Good luck on the job search, dani.
  • Morning.. That is great about your DH.

I wish I could motivate my DH into getting healthier.   Last night he asked if I wanted him to pick up ice cream.  I said NO.  He bought some anyway.  When he got home at 9:30pm he had a meatball sandwich then a choco-taco.  Lord knows what he had at work, he told me he had to eat at one of the restaurants for quality control purposes.   He just woke up and downed 4 large pancakes loaded with butter and syrup and a bunch of bacon.

I on the other hand just got back from a 3 mile walk and had a small yogurt.  Last night I had grilled chicken with pasta, sun dried tomatoes, articokes and NO sweets.

I really wish I knew how I could motivate him to care about  his health.

  • Georgia - oh no!  That sucks!  I found myself wondering how on earth you were doing yard work in February and then realized you're in Atlanta.  :)  I hope it's not poison ivy!  Or maybe I hope it IS poison ivy and not anything more serious or painful than that.

When I go grocery shopping, I just grab all the healthier options and that way H is more limited in what he stuffs in his mouth. He's not against eating healthier though... just lazy about it.

Honestly, I had been trying to tell my H for months that he had gained a lot of weight and should eat better and it wasn't until he had a random panic attack one day that he realized something was up.  The only reason he has put all of this effort into eating healthy and losing weight is b/c his cholesterol and triglycerides were so high, he convinced himself he's going to keel over from a heart attack at any moment.  I'm just glad he found something to motivate himself though, and it's working for me too!  I'm wearing pants today that I haven't worn in months b/c they were too tight.  Now they fit perfectly!  Yay!

  • Dani, I'm actually a couple hours south of Atlanta, so its even warmer here. I thought it might be poison ivy, but it doesn't really itch, and I've been tested for poison ivy and I'm not technically allergic to it. My mom had the same rash a few weeks ago, and hers was dermatitis, but mine has gone beyond what she said hers was. I just want to nip whatever it is in the bud before it travels to my neck and face. Ew. I'm hoping the doctor will just give me a steroid or cortisone shot and that'll clear it right on up. ::crossing my fingers::
  • Good morning! Glad your H is doing well Dani.

Jillian Michaels is the bride of Satan. I got up and did 30DS this morning and I could just barely move my legs enough to get in and out of the shower.

  • Hidy ho peeps.  I'm feeling very exhausted today.  Probably due to my nocturnal cleaning and sleeping on the floor in our living room.  And I've only been up for an hour.

Great news about your H Dani.  :D  Good job!

Unfortunately DH has about $150K worth of food at his disposal.  His desk is about 10 feet from a pizza oven.  Not to mention a staff of eager interns wanting to suck up to the boss by cookng him something to eat.

  • Lynda, I have the same problem with my husband. We've been making tiny changes. If I could get him to work out, I think that would trigger more changes. And it's hard because his lack of motivation also affects me negatively; I'll eat more or less healthy because he is. We're both larger than we've ever been. I told him we WILL be working out today when I get home. On M/T, I don't get home until after 8, so today will hopefully jump start something because we both need it.
  • Good morning *tips hat*

  • Dani - DH is on high blood pressure and high cholesterol meds.  Well he should be until he just randomly stopped.   His doctors all eat at the restaurants all the time and it still does not motivate him.  I swear it will take heart attach to get him motivated (then it could be too late)

It's truly the only thing we argue about.

  • Ok... yeah. I don't think I could pull H away from pizza. Well, there's always inclusion instead of exclusion. Can he ADD healthy things to the poor diet? That's how I started. I didn't get rid of all the bad stuff, I just added more good stuff until I just started craving it.

Same with me.  I  finally (as in a few weeks ago)  just realized that I have to do this on my own. (it helps we do not eat many meals together).  Hopefully me losing weight and eatting better will rub off.  So far he is good at making sure I've excerised, but has not taken any steps for himself.

  • Lynda, I've pretty much decided it's up to me as well, as far as being the motivator and doing it even if he doesn't, but that just makes it twice as hard!! So I'll be working out today whether B does or not, darnit. And I do all the cooking (when we eat at home), so now that he doesn't have a job, I'll be cooking more and he can either eat healthy or go hungry. I've actually been saying this for a few months, but it was hard to stick to, but I think with less money, we'll be forced to eat at home.

the problem is his job.  The pastry shop is only steps from his office.  He feels like pizza, it's right there.  He wants fried food, the fryer is right there with the oil already  hot.   He has a ton of coolers and freezers filled with anything he wants to eat.

To get him into a healthy mode needs to be a mental change because the bad stuff is so easily available through his job.

  • Good morning! The snow is blowing everywhere this morning. Cabin fever is in full swing, but things will start to get better tomorrow.

Dani, congrats on your DH's clean(er) bill of health.
  • I probably wouldn't do so well if I had access to all the fried food either. Like, if someone brought in fried chicken right now, I'd eat it.
