My Brother is a Marine... Dress Blues??

Re: My Brother is a Marine... Dress Blues??

• I really want the OP to come back...and READ all of this at the very minimum.

HD-I'm sorry for your loss, thank you for being the sister of a person that fought for our country.  My condolences go out to you and your family.
• Yes, your Brother in Dress Blues.  You and your FI will still be the stars of the day even if he is in uniform.  Its a sad state of affairs that I read so many post with Bride's claiming to have the same "dilema."  Being in the military, and specifically, is not just what a person does - it is what they are.  Their personal sacrifices for the safety of their country sets them apart from the civilian world, and IMO sets them apart.  Even on your "special day" your brother should have the right to stand out.  I am sure he has earned it.
My future BIL is a Marine. He has served two tours of duty in Iraq, one in Afghanistan, and will be deployed back to Afghanistan a few weeks after our wedding. And both our families are heart-broken that he won't be there in his dress blues for our wedding. The Marine Corps won't allow even seasoned veterans to leave the base in the 30 days before deployment. You, Missy, are acting like a spoiled, selfish, foolish, brat. Harden the fcck up.

Off topic, but I've never heard or experienced this, and my brother's deployed three times.  He doesn't even live on base, and they certainly don't make those types move onto base before a deployment - and we've visited him before all three deployments - he most certainly wasn't restricted to base.  I'd be asking some questions if I were you.

Posted by sucrets4
<div>i didn't even notice that. i keep hoping that new jersey will one day annex long island. or they'll declare independence. or drift off to join bermuda or spain. </div>
• honestly your brother wearing his blues will not take the focus off of you, anymore then your bridesmaids wearing dresses, or your officient talking, or your cake being fancy. the question comes off to people who don't know you as a bit selfish, which I'm sure is not what your meaning to sound like
• To the PPs who lost family members in the service, I am truly sorry for your loss.

OP, nothing will take the focus away from the bride and groom on their "big day"
Be proud of your brother.  And let him wear his uniform, because as a US Marine, that IS his tux.
No, that's not my real name. And FH's name isn't Nun (as in Nun ya bidness) either.

<div>It's because of the specific unit he's deployed with, it's not SOP for the majority. We can visit him, but his unit is not allowed to physically leave the base in the 30 days prior. He assures us it's SOP for his specific job, but can't really tell us any more. His deployments are usually fairly secretive, in that we hear from him often, but he's not allowed to say much. He was involved in a roadside bombing last deployment, and was allowed to call and tell his parents that he was ok, but not anything about his injuries or the state of anyone else involved in the incident. We didn't even know that it was a roadside bombing until he returned a few months later. </div><div>
</div><div>I'm so proud of him, but also so worried. It would just gut his family and my FI (they are the closest of the brothers) if he were to get hurt.</div>

• Girl, what is your problem?  My brother is in the Army, has served 2 deployments to Iraq and if he hadn't been sent to Haiti to help with relief and recovery after the earthquake, he would be in Afghanistan right now and would miss my wedding.  I am so incredibly thankful that he will actually be able to attend that I wouldn't care if he showed up in his underwear.  You need to count your blessings and stop being such a spoiled brat.

• I almost lost my brother in a coal mining accident in 2006 and then my dad to a massive heart attack & bipass surgey in 2009.  I don't care if they show up at my wedding in a pink tutu, I am just THANKFUL they are both still with me & my family.

GROW UP!

• ahhhhhhhhhhhh this makes me so angry...i have so many friends (never mind family) that can't come to my wedding because they are away serving their country, i would be THRILLED for them to be able to make it, and here you are bitching about not getting enough attention....when your brother makes all these arrangements to be there.....atleast the attention he gets will be because hes a hero and not a pathetic attention seeker.

• Id give my left arm to have my brother be at my wedding... I'd let him wear a damn clown suit if he wanted.
• You are incredibly selfish.  LET HIM WEAR HIS BLUES.  You will still be the bride, regardless of what anyone else wears.  He's not stealing your thunder.

I couldn't agree with you more, Seshat!

Grow up. Be honored to have your brother there in his military uniform. I'd do anything to have my two older brothers there with me in their dress uniforms.

• Seriously, unless for some reason the Marines changed their dress blues to a big white dress that resembles a wedding gown, I think you are completely ridiculous and selfish.  I truly don't understand how anyone thinks that dress blues would confuse people at your wedding.  If anything, it would be the guys in the front in matching tuxes that often match the groom.  Nobody ever confuses them.

As a Navy bride I let FI decided what he wanted to wear.  He chose to wear a tux since he rarely gets a chance to dress up in anything other than his uniform.  I am honored to know some of our guests are weearing their dress WHITES,  And get this, I even wrote on the invitiations "Service dress whites are invited."  Yep, I asked for people to wear white at my wedding!  However you have just brought up a valid point though that some of these men in white uniforms might be confused for me, the bride.  I think I'll wear a neon sign over my head that says "I'm the Bride" with an arrow pointing at me.  I wouldn't want my photographer or any of my guests to be confused, or distracted on "my special day."

Sorry. Was it the duh that hurt your feelings?

I stand by my opinion, which happens to be as valid as yours. Ten bucks we never hear from this person again.

• Piru - a true troll would come back to argue, and stir up more drama.

Ten bucks says OP comes back, sees all of the replies and then DDs.  In that case, no, not a troll.
