[QUOTE]In Response to Re: A travel poll : I can't pinpoint one exact reason exactly. Mostly that I have never felt so un-safe in my life. Not even in grody hostels in Europe did I feel so un-safe. I suppose seeing guards walking around Havana with machine guns maybe sould have made me feel safe, but it didn't. And there were guards at the hotels and markets and everywhere we went. Plus? The locals were fucking creepy, I pretty much ran past every group of men we saw. Most people I know didn't enjoy Cuba either. And then the next people just love it.

Interesting. I've definitely heard people either love or hate it, rarely anything in between. I feel like I'm prepared to hate it, but that wouldn't necessarily make the trip a waste for me because really I just want to check it out and try to get an idea of what a country under Castro-style communism is like (as much as I can as a tourist and in a few days) - it's not the kind of place I want to go because it sounds so wonderful and relaxing.
  • Pumpkin- You're totally right.  Daytona is sketchy.

  • Best place you've ever visited (and why): this is hard; I guess St Augustine, but I say that more because my H and I had a good, unplanned, laid back  time, as opposed to all our other trips, where there's so much going on or one of us doesn't feel good. I also liked the Bahamas both times I've been there (with cruises).

Favorite attraction you've ever been to: Disney World. No question. I'd live there if I could. (AT Disney, I mean, not just in Orlando)

Worst place: Jamaica when we left our resort. We won't be making that trip again.

Place(s) on your dream travel list: I want to go to Puerto Vallarta because of all the glowing reveiws it gets here, and I want to go to all the Carribean islands, and I want to visit Great Britain and Spain and NYC.
  • Best place you've ever visited (and why): I dont have just one, Paris. Because it's Paris. Hawaii, same reason. And Ireland. Charleston,SC. Napa, and SF, CA.

Favorite attraction you've ever been to:  Notre Dame at Mass. It was a moving experience.

    Worst place: Lawton,OK

Place(s) on your dream travel list: Germany, New York, and Chicago.

Yes it was a good 22 years ago, I went there with one of my ex-boyfriends, mother and little  brother for his graduation also. And we stayed in the most deplorable hotel known to man. But we had driven 18 hours straight, and just said F it for one night. It was a god awful town.

Best place you've ever visited (and why): Scotland. My type of weather, history, and people. (Seriously, my dad is half Scottish.) I just loved it. Oh, and the scotch.

Favorite attraction you've ever been to:  Hmm, maybe Tower of London? I saw a list once that had "touristy places that you really shouldn't skip, even though they're touristy." They included things like Macchu Picchu and the Tower of London. Worth every penny! Westminister Abbey was great, too.

Worst place: Can I say Hollywood? I actually like Hollywood fine, but it blows as a tourist attractions. Tourists are always walking around aimlessly, looking for things to do. Oh, and I hate Miami. Hate. And in all seriousness, I've been to a concentration camp (Thereisenstadt) and while I'm glad I went, it wasn't exactly a rollicking good time.

Place(s) on your dream travel list: Places H and I intend to travel: Paris, India, Greece+Egypt+Turkey, Argentina+Brazil. H would love to go to other places in Asian, like Hong Kong and Singapore, and to go back to Australia and NZ. I'd like to go a few other places in Europe, like Italy. We've agreed to go back to Scotland for a milestone anniversary.

  • Best place you've ever visited (and why):  It's a close tie between the Grand Tetons and Banff.  Both areas are incredibly beautiful and so serene.

Favorite attraction you've ever been to:  I guess I would say an elephant camp in Thailand.  We got to feed the elephants, ride them and eat fabulous Thai food.

Worst place:  Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios, Jamaica - there were too many tourists and I just felt like the whole experience was way overrated.  Then I was practically molested by Jamaicans trying to sell their stuff at the top.  I had no money on me (because of climbing the falls) and they didn't believe I had no money so they were just really rude to me.

Place(s) on your dream travel list:  The Tuscan region of Italy, Alaska and Hawaii

  • Best place you've ever visited (and why):
**Iceland.  It was just so different.
**Trier, Germany.  I had studied German,e tc for years and I just loved being there and finally experiencing it.  It was a small city with lots of history.  It was very pedestrian friendly.

**Utah.  Any of the amazing national parks there.  Arches and Canyonlands especially.

Favorite attraction you've ever been to: The Great Wall.  Unreal!  Do not go to Badaling, go to Simitai or Jinshaling (less touristy).

Worst place: House on the Rock.  Seriously, WTF?

Place(s) on your dream travel list: Zanzibar, Tanzania, Kenay, Egypt, Jordan, Italy, Peru...  I want to see it all!

I feel like I totally take the mountains here for granted.  They're absolutely stunning, but I can pretty much go whenever I want so I never think about 'em.  Whenever I go to Banff, I'm irritated by all the tourists.  Haha.

I'm like the grumpy old women yelling at the kids to get out of my mountains!
