[QUOTE]Yeah, I honestly don't understand how anyone says one is "more important" than the other.  We are born where we are born by sheer accident; it has nothing to do with our (or their) value or importance.  That kind of baffles me.  I can understand based on things like the level of corruption, the percentage of $$ that actually goes to help folks v. advertising or management, that kind of stuff.  But to say it's more important to help our own is . . . strange to me.

Kidding. I thought we were throwing out unfounded and provocative statements. ;)

Well, that and your apparent refusal to accept that U.S. kids can be just as in need as those from other countries. It's okay to help out our own as well. It doesn't mean you don't also care about the world.

Lol, this makes you my most favorite poster so far!

Oh, and I am probably the most hated of all out there, cause I help out animals more than humans!  But FI helps out humans more than I do, so in the end its about 50/50. I also really like heffer international.  I gave my Mama a Llama last year for Christmas.  Who else can say that?

  • I...uh... huh.

I volunteer for our local humane society.  In the past, I've fostered dogs for another rescue agency.  My cats are both from the humane society and the dog I had to return recently was as well.

Helping animals is always time and money well spent.

  • Food for thought:

I guess it can be considered an unpopular opinion to help our own first, but think of it this way.  Who else will (help ours)?

Starving children in US and Canada, I would argue, are far out of the minds of most people in other countries.  I'd even venture a guess that a lot of people in other countries don't even think it's a possibility.

I'm not saying *exclusively* help our own, but I do think resources need to be allocated to it - because if we don't, no one else will.

Sabres! It's hard to follow them, being on the west coast now. I can see about 8 games a year on cable. And they did a west coast road trip last year, so I got to see them play the Kings:

I was rocking my sweet Dominick Hasek jersey from circa 1996.

What part of Ontario are you in? My parents live in northern NY now, about 2 hours from Ottowa.

Hehe you look so adorable in your jersey!  I've seen Hasek a few times when he was a goalie for Ottawa.  In my opinion he was quite good, but opinions on him vary around these parts.

I live about 45 minutes east of Ottawa actually!

I'm a Montreal fan, only because FI brainwashed me by watching convincing me to watch their games with him for the past five years.

Well hey, Montreal is a decent team to be a fan of. They've been around a long time!

Specifically, my parents are about 30 miles south of Kingston, so definitely further west than you. But still. It's almost-Canada.
