Definitely a different dress and work harder to lose that last 10 pounds.  I loved everything else about the day though.

  • I would definitely have gotten a better photographer.  I also would probably have hired some kids to help set up/take down everything.  It was at a beach house, so we had to do everything ourselves.  It was a LOT of work.

  • I think I might have gotten my dress a size smaller.  I would have communicated better with the florist.  I would have put our dads in black shirts like the groomsmen and ushers.  Just dumb little things, though.  Overall I'm pretty happy :) Remembering our wedding is one of my favorite things.

I would have picked a different venue.  I got called 2 weeks beforehand saying there's a good chance the river would be too flooded and our venue would be closed.  I had to find a back up place, which was nearly impossible in my little town on a Saturday in June.  We ended up being able to use our original venue (it closed 5 days later), but it was way stressful being so unsure where the eff the wedding was going to actually be until 2 days beforehand.

  • I would have spent more time with J during the reception. I feel awful about it now, I feel like we barely were next to each other after eating. I wish the lighting during the ceremony was different. Other than that I loved every bit of it and wish I could relive it again and again.

[QUOTE]Oh I also would have not invited my uncle and aunt but my parents wouldn't go for that.  Dammit.

Yeah I wish I hadn't invited one of cousins, she was high on pain pills and in the middle of the ceremony yelled at the top of her lungs, "Don't marry her just fuuuck her!"

Looking back it's pretty funny though!

  • Oh.  I guess I would have also packed some snow boots, they would have come in handy while walking to our car after the reception.  ...That sucked.

  • I would have done my own hair and make up. Or at least had a trial. Or at least have had a mirror in front of me while she worked so i could have provided input as she went instead of when she was done and there was no time to edit. My hair was the wedding magazine version of what I was asking for, and my make up ended up looking like a bit much for noon. I'm not losing sleep over it, but whenever I look at my pictures, I'm like "it was noon. In a book store. Did I not explain that clearly enough?"

Yeah she's colorful! She's my grandmother's neice and has been addicted to pain pills since she was in a bad accident, we have tried to help her and she'll clean up for a while for her kids but then old habits I guess. We almost didn't invite her, but my grandmother was worried that her sister's feelings would be hurt. We just hoped she'd be sober...but that didn't happen.

    WTF?!
    Oh Wow, that's crazy.
    image
  • I probably would have eloped, honestly. My parents didn't put forth any effort for the wedding until a month or so prior, and it's going to sound bratty, but I was kinda  counting on them for more help, financially. I didn't wear the dress I wanted because no one else liked it, even though I wasn't happy with the dress I had. I wanted carnations for my bouquet, but got talked out of it because "carnations are for funerals." If I had known so much of my wedding was going to be dictated and I had no spine to say no,  I would have just eloped.

I also was hella disappointed in our photog. I liked our epics, but I have so few wedding pics that I like. They just don't look professional at all. I wish my parents had realized that beforehand that a good photog was worth the money, and had agreed to spend it. My mom later told me, after we got pictures back, that she was sorry for not agreeing to go with someone more expensive. And we unfortunately didn't have the money to cover someone better.

I had a crazy at my wedding, too, Mari.  My aunt got ripped during the reception and ran around calling my mom a psycho biiitch to everyone.  But nothing during our ceremony, thank God.

  • Also, I think I would've chosen a different venue. It was gorgeous but they said they would mow the grass and pick up the horse poop. Yeah they didn't, my grandfather was mowing their grass the morning of the wedding and one of our groomsmen was picking up horse poop so we wouldn't be sitting guests in it.

I definitely wondered WTF you were thinking when this was happening :)  I wouldn't have been able to handle it.

Mel, my makeup felt super dramatic for a beach wedding, but whatever.  I rarely wear much makeup so anything she did would have felt like a lot.  H told me the other day that I looked exotic.

No story.  Just a dumb picture I saw once and thought was funny.  I thought it was funny because I'm not the most maternal (or, wasn't, I guess) of women.  So when I saw it I was like HA!  That kid's gonna get it.

  • Yeah, Adamar, it sucked.  The flooring was supposed to come in earlier but took longer than expected to arrive.  I suppose doing it was better than having people over and seeing the ugly carpet/piles of flooring to install, but if I could do it over again, i would have done the floors a year ago instead.
