Drink recipes

FI and I like to drink lol, but who wants all the calories of a typical mixed drink; anyone got any recipes for low-cal stuff that actually tastes good?

One I came up with about two weeks ago is for a mojito.  I love mojitos but FI didn't want them because the simple syrup (aka sugar water) was a good 150 calories alone before you even factor in the booze.  So I made one with Bacardi silver, fresh mint, a packet of Sun Crystals (cane sugar + stevia = 5 calories), mash it up with some ice, squeeze out about half a lime into it, fill the rest of the glass with ice and top it off with seltzer water.  Tastes nearly identical to simple syrup but now the only calories are the rum (about 80 per shot) and the 5 from the Sun Crystals.

Another one that she likes that we ripped off from Blue Martini bar is the Skinny Bitch but with some changes.  Theirs is blueberry vodka, pomegranate juice, truvia, blueberry puree and a lemon wedge.  They claim it's 200 calories but the pomegranate they use is 200 calories alone, I've seen the bottle and it's the generic pomegranate drink mix bottle you can get at the liquor store.  We came up with something that tastes about the same and should only be about 150 calories in real life if made reasonably strong.  Use Three Olives berry vodka (not blueberry), Ocean Spray Light pomegranate juice which is only about 5 calories for 8 ounces, a packet of Sun Crystals to bring back the sweetness lost by not using the high-cal pomegranate mix, you can grind up real blueberries into it if you'd like but not sure how many calories those add, shake in ice or blend up to make a frozen drink, pour in martini glass.

Re: Drink recipes

  • 1.  Put ice into a glass
    2.  Pour your choice of liquor over it (preferably not low-cal liquors, because those are also low-alcohol liquors.  It takes twice as much to get you just as drunk and that totally defeats the purpose of drinking low-cal.)
    3.  Sip

That's probably the only low-cal type drink I know how to make.

I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. The lighter the liquor is, the lower the calories.  If you start adding juices and sodas, the sugar alone is going to pump up the calories.  Vodka tends to be the less caloric of them all.
Those sound awesome Vegas! I like vodka water if it's a high end brand of vodka and I know I'm going to be drinking a lot. If it's so-so vodka, I'll do vodka soda with a twist of lime or orange. I came up with a lower cal margarita that my friends love, it's tequila, triple sec, Sprite Zero, light OJ and fresh lime. Mostly tequila. I figure if you make stronger drinks you'll drink fewer cocktails overall, which equals less of the sugary mixers. Just a night in with Scott? Crown and Sprite Zero.
    Posted by COkristi
FI has been making skinny margaritas with a shot of patron anejo, 1/2 shot silver, 1/2 shot triple sec, seltzer water (aka club soda), squeeze out 3/4 of a lime and throw in the last piece.  The lime makes it taste nearly the same as that sweetened lime juice most 'true' margaritas are made with, and you're probably looking at about 175 calories versus 300+ with the sweetened lime juice, or 500+ for a typical chain restaurant margarita mix type margarita which we both hate.

  • I have fallen in love with Three Olives Cherry....sprite & a lime.  Three Olives is so smooth & you can only taste the cherry flavor.
  • I usually stay low key and just do diet soda with liquor. But I really want to try one of these:

    http://crumpetsandcakes.blogspot.com/2010/06/cucumber-gimlet.html

If you nix the simple syrup, it should be pretty low-cal. I also like to puree watermelon with some berries if I have them, and add rum.

  • I can handle sweet stuff, I just thought maybe it would be super sweet.  Good to know, I will have to try it out!
  • For liquor drinks I usually go with flavoured vodka and soda water, usually with a splash of lemon juice, or just regular vodka and soda.  Bonus: it helps stave off a hangover, because you're getting plenty of water while you're drinking.
