  • Hi, ladies! We're open on Monday, too.

Nothing special going on today. I'm going to the gym, then teaching all night.
  • We don't get any holidays in the tax world until April 16.
Just found out instead of being gone from Friday-Monday, H will be in Los Angeles an additional week. Boo. I'm not scared or anything to stay alone in the house... I just get booooooored.

  • Apple (and Swag!)- I've seen you post about your FI being gone regularly and I have to say, you seem really good about it. I get so annoyed with people when they flip out about a few weeks. FI and I were long distance for all four years I was in college and he still lives an hour away, so it's normal to us. I have zero sympathy for people who cry over two days apart. Maybe I'm just heartless this morning haha

The longest we have spent apart was 5 months, so I am sort of used to it, and we are both pretty independent.
I'm going to need some idea for tv shows to get started on! Ladies?

Oh also last night I went to a boot camp and they put us into groups of 3. My two partners were named Peter and Wendy. It took all of my maturity to not freak out over the coincodence, and I could tell neither of them wanted to address the irony. But my Disney loving heart just wanted to be like... 'OMG PETER AND WENDY TOGETHER AGAIN AT LAAAAAST!!!!'

Edie - You really had me confused for a second there.  LOL, it's okay.  It's still early.

Swag - The Peter and Wendy thing actually made me laugh out loud.  Not going lie, I would've had a hard time not freaking out.

  • I'm actually feeling pretty good.  Nausea disappeared about a week ago and hasn't reappeared yet (knock on wood).  Still pretty tired though.  It blows my mind that I can get 9 hours of sleep and still be tired.

  • I don't mind!  We told our immediate families on Christmas Eve and our mothers spread the word to extended family over the past few weeks (although I'm not sure everyone knows).  I told my best friend and H told his best friend.  Otherwise, no one else knows at this point.  We're waiting until 14 weeks to make it public.

I was just talking to SIL the other night, telling her how weird it's going to be to tell people I'm pregnant.  I mean, what do I say?  I feel like calling someone or going up to someone and saying, "Hey, by the way, I'm pregnant" is just so awkward!  So I'm not really sure how we're going to do it once we make the announcement to our friends.

Word will probably get around on its own since some key people know.  The tiredness will go away and then you will probably go into the "I feel amazing" part of pregnancy.

TiffanyT - I saw your last comment in Wednesday's thread.  That's a good idea about eating a protein bar or apple at shift end or on the way home. I'll try that tonight.

'flu no good Apple.  I'm still recovering. :(

  • Morning!

Yesterday I got some news that put me down in the dumps for the rest of the night. I've been hinting that I had something important going on for the last couple weeks, and it was that I had applied for a new job.

I would have been perfect for it, it would have been a 5 minute commute vs. the 1 hr I have now, and a significant pay raise. I had to have a phone interview, a regular interview where I also showed my portfolio. They liked me, so they gave me a small design project to complete in 2 days and send back to them. HR then contacted me yesterday, congratulating me that I was moving along in the application process and asked me to fill out forms for employment background check with references and for a legal background check. I really thought this was positive and I jumped through hoops yesterday, on my busiest day of the week, to get these filled out and discreetly sent back to them while I was at work. All to find out a few hours later that the position got filled.

I actually knew someone who worked there, who would have been part of the team I would have joined, and she really pushed hard for me the best she could, but I lost to a guy who went above and beyond on the design project given, plus was very confident. I'm still pretty disappointed though I tried the best that I could. H was very nice last night and bought me flowers to help make me feel better which made me smile, but now the flowers also remind me that I didn't get the job. I won't tell him that of course.  Sorry for the very long vent, I just had to get it out.

  • I'm sorry Buzz :(
  • Sorry Buzz :(
I remember before H moved to Los Angeles to go to film school, he tried to get into a well-respected local program here. He received a preliminary acceptance letter, but then immediately got a call that it got sent to the wrong person and he actually wasn't accepted. It was AWFUL for him for a month or so, but we look back now as such a blessing.
Hopefully you will get a great opportunity in the future that will maybe put a spin on it later. Doesn't help, now, though.
    Again, so sorry. :(
  • Good morning ladies! Is Monday a holiday in the US? I should probably check that out, since one of my classes is through an American university. I feel so behind with everything, I just can't get caught up. My stepmother wanted to go to the big wedding show in Toronto this weekend, but I had to cancel because I've just got so much to do. I'm actually looking forward to class tonight because I can sit for a full 3 hours and not feel guilty, lol!

  • And now on to actually participating in the conversation...

Swag, my SIL's parents are named Wendy and Peter. I always think it's so cute!
For TV shows, what kind of show are you interested in watching?

I'm sorry for everyone who is sick! My mom keeps telling me EVERY DAY to get a flu shot. Maybe this weekend I have time I will.

I don't have a 3 day weekend either. I think my next holiday the office has off is Memorial Day as well.

  • Thank you for all the condolences. I'm hoping this might be the kick start I need to apply for more new jobs, as I've been severely slacking about it and have been saying I need a new one for years - which I do.

On a positive note, it's H and I's birthdays this weekend. We having a fun, silly themed party at our house. It's the first real party other than summer bbq's that we're going to have at our new house.

Edie, have you figured out what you're going to do next? I may have missed it on yesterdays thread if you mentioned it. I love pizza parties at work.

  • So sorry Buzz.

Swag, we've been watching Dowton Abbey. It's super dramatic which is not usually my thing, but I can't seem to stop watching. And Maggie Smith definitely wears her sassy britches, so there's that. I've heard Shirley Maclane shows up in later seasons, and it's an epic matriarchal sassfest.

Chicken Chili is in the crockpot for dinner. I'm exhausted this morning, and don't really know why. Praying it's not a sign of the flu. I'm hoping it's just so cold and wet today, I just want to crawl back under the covers.

  • Buzz, that stinks! It's good if it will motivate to keep looking. I've been stuck in a job like that for awhile and it was my new supervisor who's really pushing me to get my board certification and move up the ladder. So I'm finally starting this week... Although along with my master's degree and the wedding, I've taken on a lot! I'll probably end up doing take out again tonight, I haven't done the 'big shop' since being back and don't have a whole lot in the house.

For drama's - Breaking Bad on AMC and Dexter on Showtime. People also rave about Mad Men on AMC, but we haven't watched it yet. If you haven't watched LOST, I'd also recommend that one.

Fantasy Geekyness - Game of Thrones, on HBO

    SciFi Geekyness -
Firefly - there's only one season and then a movie so you could potentially get through this quickly. Note, it never got picked up after the first season, so a lot doesn't get answered.
Battlestar Galactica - This was one of my favorites recently.
Dr. Who - never watched it, but some people really love it. I'd suggest starting at the most recent reboot of the series.

Reality Series - (I don't watch many, the ones I like are cooking or creative based)
    Top Chef
    Project Runway
    Next Iron Chef

  • Sorry Buzz!  Hope you can shake off the blues at your party this weekend!  Do you and your H have the same birthday?

I love the Wendy and Peter thing LOL.  Just found out my best friend is having a Disney costume party for her 30th birthday this year.  Should be fun (I don't mind dressing up) but kinda funny that it's for her 30th... she's young at heart I suppose.

Trying to think of the shows I watch.  I never watched much TV until I started dating H.  Now I'm a TV addict.

Love most of the shows on premium channels like Homeland, Dexter, The Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood.

Some other shows I watch are HIMYM, Sons of Anarchy, Modern Family, American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, Grey's Anatomy, Falling Skies.

My guilty pleasure shows are Vampire Diaries (love, love, love this show - I'm such a 14 year old girl), Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Keeping Up With the Kardashians.

And I'm also seriously addicted to HGTV.
