The point is to invest in the development of new alternative energy technology before that happens.  It isn't cost-effective now -- as evidenced by the fact that my hybrid has a larger carbon footprint from development alone than it will save in its lifetime in reduced fuel consumption.  :(

But, eventually, as fossil fuel becomes increasingly expensive, exploring and developing alternatives will become increasingly necessary and increasingly cost-effective by comparison.  I'm not an economist.  I don't have a detailed forecast.  I just feel that we as a global society will not be motivated to pursue alternatives until it becomes economically imperative to do so.  People aren't inherently altruistic, so all of the "save the planet" propaganda in the world isn't going to have the same impact as skyrocketing gas prices.

ETA -- It's not a tree-hugger thing for me, by the way.  It's a security thing.  I do not want to see this country fighting wars over increasingly limited natural resources because we didn't have the foresight to realize that we were running out and develop alternatives.

So gross. that is the only reason I wish we didn't have a dog. Why can't dogs learn to pick up the poop themselves?

Oh believe me... some do.  And I'd rather pick it up than watch them do it, lol.

Seriously though, I pick up the poop immediately.  I don't let it sit there.  Dog shiit in a yard looks fucking trashy, ffs.

Celles- I just dont see how punishing us with gas prices that will send the people on the edge of financial crisis into financial crisis will help anything.  I dont know about where you live, but they have tried the green energy stuff here and it isnt effective.  Also, many green energy companies (that received stimulus money) have gone under because they are not cost effective.

But I think that they way you are thinking on it, is the way Obama is thinking about it.  He isnt going to do anything about the gas prices because he wants to push his green energy agenda down our throats.  Whether its a good idea (at some later time) or not, with the economy being so fragile, this is a dangerous game he is playing and its just going to make the economy worse.

I agree that I think we need to plan ahead for alternative energy -sustainable energy solutions. The bottom line is we are using fossil fuels faster than the earth is making it so therefore we will run out, I don't know when but its gonna happen.  Why not be prepared? I am worried we, as a society, won't be.

When I used to pet sit, I was expected to pick up after my clients' dogs while they were on vacation.  No big.  But you would not believe the number of people who thought it was perfectly acceptable to let the yard go between pet sitting engagements.  I swear, I had clients who didn't even touch their yards between the time I sat for them over Christmas and their summer vacations.  Gross.

Adam does poo patrol and didn't do it all winter cause "the weather sucked", weather is fine and it still hasn't been done and its gross. He's such a lazy shiit sometimes.
  • I dont have an issue with them starting to, i dont know the right word, i guess "stockpile" green energy for later use once we get things in order for an easy conversion, but to just say "Fvck everyone, let the gas prices go up!" doesnt make sense to me since I cant fill my gas tank up with wind.  What do we do in the meantime?  There is not option for us.

[QUOTE]My husband is notoriously terrible at picking up dogshit.  I was so pissed off this morning - all our snow melted yesterday and there were a couple piles in our yard that should have been picked up weeks ago, but were underneath snow.  He thinks it's okay to leave it there when there's snow because it freezes and you can pick it up later.  Except when it melts, and it's even nastier then before.  I'm not picking up that shiit.

BORING BEN, a lot of boring girls, stupid ending which they gave away anyways (the most controversial ending of the Bachelor ever!) and not even a good after-story.

And I don't like Emily either so now the Bachelorette is ruined for me too.

Ew. We're lucky because Fox poops in the same spot in the yard. It takes maybe five minutes to pick it up and once a week is manageable.

My annoyance is lame. I got back from my dr appt and they had replaced my monitor at work. With a hugeass 24" widescreen one. My last monitor was like 20" and MAYBE a year old. Yet all we hear about is how the university has no money and they can't do this or that. Stop buying new fucking computer monitors every 6 months.

How are gas prices the president's fault?  It wasn't Bush's fault when gas was expensive as fuuck in 2008, so why should it be Obama's fault now?  I thought that all has to do with markets and stuff.

Feel free to school me on this, as I am well aware that I may not be completely versed on this.

Now with Obama, the Congress wants to drill, and HE is the one saying no.

Okay, refusing to allow drilling in certain places doesn't raise the price of gas.  It just doesn't increase the supply of gas, which in turn doesn't decrease the price of gas.

What im saying is that if we had more options to buy the fuel, options closer to us, there would be a free market on it and we wouldnt be so dependant on the middle east and south america.
