• RUBYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!  Sigh.  I can't even start on the turtle costume.  I want to talk to her in an obnoxious baby voice.

Fezz, your pit is absolutely beautiful.
Mel, your doggie stories are cracking me up!  Hoff looks like a lab/pit bull mix, is that what the vet told you?  I love pit bulls, they are so affectionate.  I think Piggy feels a bit exposed in that bikini...umm where did you get that?  I need to put Kooper in a bikini.  She totes has the body for it.
    Posted by pinkpinot
Yep, that's exactly what he is.  Pit Bull was at the top of the list of breeds we would really like to have, because they're so lovable and great with kids.  I think it was kind of sad that the dude felt like he needed to lie about his breed in order to get him a home.  I would have taken him home no matter what.

I was home on maternity leave when Pig ended up in the bikini.  I was bored.  I tried to dress Hoff, too, but he has too much dignity to stand for it and is smart enough to get himself out of women's swimwear.  Pig just sat there and looked ashamed.
  • Oskie AND Baby G made an appearance in this thread?  Holy win!

  • When I'm at home, he is like my little shadow and has to be everywhere that I am....he even has the same bedtime as me every single night and won't get out of bed in the morning until I do! His favorite thing in the world (besides me) is chicken.
Salt, this is exactly how I would explain Otis. I have to drag him out of bed in the morning and if I stayed in bed until 6pm at night so would he. His favorite food is also chicken and we always immitate his voice begging for chicken.
    I love your tatt.

and one more pic of Otis Redding....

    Okay I'm done!

  • Yes! Oksie AND Baby G!  My day has been made.
I love pugs!  I actually love all these animals.

Thanks Pink, she's quite the man-eater.
She loves taking pictures also.  She's smiling for the camera.

  • That's Suon.  He's 12 and will be 13 in March.  I adopted him when I was 12 years old along with his brother Joey.  Unfortunately Joey passed away a couple of years ago.  I still miss him dearly, but I'm glad I still have Suon in my life.  Suon is very adventurous and loves to explore outside, although, due to his old age, he doesn't go outside nearly has much as he used to.  He can be quite stubborn and will only drink water if it's running from the sink (a habit he picked up when my older brother decided this was a good idea when I was still living at home).

This is Bruce.  It's quite obnoxious.  He loves fighting with everyone and loves getting into places he knows he shouldn't.  Russell and I adopted him in 2007.  When we were at the animal shelter, Russell and I heard one of the workers say "If you bite me one more time, you're going back in your cage.... that's it you're going back in your cage!"  We decided to adopt him right there and then.  He's very fluffy and adorable... and he knows it.

This is Oliver.  He's veryyyy whiney.  He never shuts up and he loves attention.  He's the nicest cat you'll ever meet.  When Russell and I moved into the apartment we live in now, there was a stray cat that would come around meowing and looking for food/attention.  One night I heard the cat and decided to give him some food.  Since that night he came to my house every night for dinner.  He was so affectionate for a stray that Russell and I believe that he's previous owners must have dumped him by our apartment (we live right next to a farm with a lot of stray cats).  We decided after a week that we couldn't continue to let this poor cat live outside.  So one night Russell and I found the cat, took him to the vet and he is now the newest addition to our family.
Ozzie!  Ozzie!  Ozzie!  Hahaha I absolutely love Beagles.  I've noticed a lot them in the shelter lately.  We have 3 pups there now (1-2 years old) owner surrenders because they are difficult to train.  Is that true? I just think all puppies in general are hard to train and people aren't prepared for the work.  My next dog will be an adult dog, so much easier.  Wolfie had me spoiled.
    Posted by pinkpinot
Beagles are hard headed, so you just have to be persistent. :) He's fully trained except for his affinity for shoes. He IS a girly male dog... but we haven't broken him of his shoe fetish yet.

I've seen a lot of Beagles lately too. :( I think our next dog will be a grown up dog too because the puppy months for Ozzie were a LOT of work. I still want it to be fairly young though.

I forgot to add that Ozzie is a Beagle mix. We're not sure what he's mixed with. Our theories are Dauchsand, basset, corgie, or Australian Shepherd. I'd love to get a DNA test done on him, but I hear they're bogus.

These boys are at the dog park in Freedom Park nearly every single weekend.  Bless Hoff's heart, even in this weather, you can count on him to run and jump blindly into the stream.  A few weeks ago he was feathers away from catching a duck.  I didn't know who to root for.  Hoff really wanted that duck, and I really wanted Hoff to have him because ZOMG he would be so happy.  But the result would have been DEAD DUCK.  Ewww.  I was relieved/sad when the duck remembered that he had the unique ability to take flight.

We did a DNA test on Dakota (one of the cheapo ones from petsmart) and it was actually right. When we got Dakota they told us he was boxer/beagle/german sheppard (they knew the breeds of both the mother and father), but our vet was skeptical about the sheppard. He didn't have any traits. The test came back as boxer/beagle. It was fun to do and didn't take very long to get back.
My cat is named Theo.  I got him when I was in college at a local rescue shelter.  I picked him out because he was the only one that would come up to me and get in my face so that I could pet him.  Plus he looked just like the cat I had while growing up that had died a year earlier.  He's a black tabby cat.  His adoption papers said that he was left at a dumpster which just made me cry but I'm so glad I was able to help at least one rescue animal even though I wish I could have had them all! You can't really tell from the picture but he loves to sleep in the laundry basket before I have the chance to fold the clothes.

  • Ozzie MIGHT get a DNA test from his Grandma this Christmas. We'll see! :)

For you pit lovers, are any of you fans of Jennifer Lancaster or her blog? She has a pit named Maisy who has been sick. The vet mentioned possibly getting another pit puppy to keep her up and active. She just got a new puppy last week. You can read about it and see her hilarious videos here: http://www.jennsylvania.com/jennsylvania/2010/11/let-freedom-ring.html
  • Fezz, your pit is gorgeous.  I love when dogs smile.

Birdie, the first picture on her blog has me obsessed already.  What an adorable puppy!

  • I'm going to go back and read the rest of these, but I had to say: OPAL! You have XMen kitties?? ME TOO! This is Logan. I named him after Wolverine because of his sideburns. He's a total doofus, lacking almost all cat-like coordination. If he falls off the couch (which is common) he never lands on his feet. However, he's an excellent pool player. He is a complete lap cat, and is never happier than when he's sitting in your lap with his motor going. All 20 pounds of him. He is the dominant cat in our family, but he's too lazy to win many fights. I adopted him from a shelter when he was 12 weeks old. He'll be eleven years old in May.

I don't have a picture of my other baby, Tybalt (as in Romeo & Juliet) by himself, but here he is being squished by Logan. Don't tell either of them, but Tybalt is my favorite. We have a very special bond. I got him from a shelter when he was only 6 weeks old and he wasn't ready to be weaned, but they didn't have his mother there. He spent the first year of his life trying to suckle on my earlobes. He doesn't like to be held, but he does like to curl up on me when I'm sleeping. When I'm working at my desk at home he likes to be asleep in the top drawer next to me. He is the smartest cat I've ever met, and if he had thumbs he'd be a terror. His only negative trait is that he's a whiner. He whines constantly and loudly. Although he's eleven going on twelve, I still haven't figured out what he wants when he's whining!

  • Pink, her pit Maisy completely negates any negative stereotype there has ever been about pit's. If you click on the tag at the bottom of the post, you can see all of her posts about her dogs. She takes videos and they're hilarious.

cfas, I looooooooove boxers! I've always wanted one and I hope maybe our next dog could be a boxer/beagle mix. That would be the perfect combo!! :)

  • This is Penny, she will be 6 months old on Friday and FI and I adopted her in late August. She is the most cautious cat I have ever met and takes forever to pounce so I don't think she was meant to be a hunter. She was pretty shy when we got her, but is becoming much more cuddly. And I think she is finally getting the message that it is not cool to jump on our pillows at 3 am. She had ringworm when we got her, which was kind of yucky (and expensive!), but its all cleared up now. I really want her to have a friend, but our apartment is tiny so I will have to wait until we move somewhere bigger. Also, FI has never had a cat before Penny so convincing him to get one was hard enough. I think it will take awhile to convince him to get another.
  • Salt, it's amazing how pets can help us emotionally. Whenever I've had a horrible day, I can come home and hug on Oz and it all just seems to go away. They say pet owners tend to live longer than non-pet owners because of what the pets do for them emotionally. It affects their overall well-being.
  • Stack reminded me that we have a fish, his name is Joben.  He's a betta and I'm actually surprised he's still alive.  He's going on 2 years.  When I was younger they never lived this long.

This is really red-neck of me to post (and sorry if it offends anyone) but I am finding that even though Kooper is a mixed breed, her Dachshund small game hunting instincts are strong.  She retrieves small game that H hunts.  It's really incredible because I have taught her nothing, she just does it.  She will also dig out rodents that burrow in our yard.

Here she is after a successful day of bird hunting with dad.

  • Sure do, Manda. I think we're going to keep it up, If we get a grey kitty, it can be either Jean Grey or Magneto. If we get something huge and fluffy, I'll name him Beast.

    X-names are the best. :-D

  • This is Zelda.  She is a 4.5 year old lab/whippet mix that we got from the Humane Society when she was 11 months old.  She was also an owner-surrender, because her previous owners moved somewhere dogs weren't allowed.  We lucked out in that she was already housebroken and knew basic commands, so I only had to do some minimal training.

She's a sweet, smart dog, but right now she's on my shitlist, so I don't feel like writing a gushing review at this time.
