Freestyle Friday Festival (my version of FFF)

Re: Freestyle Friday Festival (my version of FFF)

  • A couple of vents:

I hate that in a matter of moments, DH went from a valued employee to someone who is feared and avoided by his previous coworkers. He's done nothing but publically thank the farking company for four years of experience (during which they abused him pretty badly and underpaid him), and when he showed up in the parking lot to meet some friends/former coworkers for lunch, other people tried to call the police on him for trespassing. When a package arrived for him, they forwarded it rather than ask him to pick it up, or have a friend hand-deliver it. And despite all of this hurry-scurry over never seeing him again, the bastards have yet to send him his last check, as legally required.

I'm also pissed at my body. No, I haven't been treating it awesomely lately. But why, today of all days, does it feel like I've been drinking battery acid? I and five of my classmates defended our theses this week, and tonight is the mother of all parties. And here I am, stomach lurching at the thought of drinking anything at all.
  • Arbs, they're so cute!

Celles- I've never seen an atheist get mad if someone mocks zombies?  But um, I don't believe in zombies either.  I'm confused about your rant, honestly.
In Response to Re: Freestyle Friday Festival (my version of FFF) : I would agree with this to a certain extent.  I don't question another Christian's belief in the Rapture, but I do have a major problem with this dude predicting it.  I think that's more blasphemous than anything else.
    Posted by Meg1979
I agree with this.  He also predicted the Rapture to happen 20 years ago too. I guarantee you in another 20 years, he'll be saying he got the calculations wrong again.

Guys, I don't know what to have for lunch today. The soup options in the cafeteria are weird (as always) and I don't know if I feel like braving the outside world. I need to make some decisions too.
OWWWW, Joy. Been there. Not that extensive of road rash, but Jeez - it makes everything tight and stiff and achy. When it gets to where it's just areas, those blister waterproof bandages are awesome.
    Posted by missy68
Yes!  Everything is stiff and my skin that has healed is SO dry.  I'm walking like a complete idiot.  It's been eight days since I did it so the minor scrapes have healed markedly... but the bigger patches are just painful still.

My sister recommended those waterproof bandages, too!!  I'll try those once I can attach tape to my skin :-)
I flame all of the theists who are mocking the Rapture as if their own heartfelt beliefs aren't equally as fantastic. If I were to start making fun of the Catholics on the board for believing in transubstantiation ("HAHA ZOMBIE JESUS CRACKERS!!!111!!eleventyone!"), then I'm pretty sure I would be flamed for religious intolerance. I honestly don't understand the double standard. Mica tried to justify it when I mentioned it in passing in another thread, but all I got from her response was "It's okay because my beliefs are true."  Yeah.  Says who?  I'm fairly confident that my (lack of) beliefs are true too, but I still can't run around making fun of everyone who does believe in a god or gods. FTR, I don't care if people mock the Rapture. But I think if some religion is fair game, all religion should be fair game. It's the hypocrisy of mocking one set of beliefs while holding your own to be sacrosanct that aggravates me.

<div>I'm not getting it. Because I believe some things that you personally believe are preposterous, I'm not allowed to think anyone else is preposterous? Ever?</div>
  • Oh and I have love for Pink (which isn't new) for lending me Water For Elephants, which I really enjoyed!  And I wanted to start Bumped last night but fell asleep.  H has duty tomorrow though, so I'll probably do lots of reading and DVRing.  Think I can watch the finales of Grey's and Private Practice, and read all of Bumped before the rapture?

  • I'll make fun of super loonies for predicting the end of the world b/c I think their extremist views are ridiculous and it isn't about religion, it's about a group of people saying they're better than other people b/c they believe a certain way.

I'll also make fun of the Westboro Baptist loonies b/c they sucks.

I just think some people go overboard.  Like Guyana Jonestown massacre - James Jones was a freaking lunatic and I think there's a point where it isn't about religion anymore.  It's about power and controlling people.

So I'll make fun of these people b/c to me, they are not religious.  They're extremists.

Doubtful.  He's in his 80s now.

Celles- sorry if I offended you.  I have heard what you think of "us theists," and I don't usually speak up because I think that people willing to live in peace with each other should be free to believe whatever.  I'm less a fan of people who buy billboards and radio time proclaiming the end of the world is coming using my God as the cover story.  Not only is that misinterpretation of the Bible, but it's dangerous.
  • Eye-to-eye stacks.  When I make fun of the Rapture, I'm not making fun of Christians or anything.  Most Christians I know think it's ridiculous, too (the rapture-coming-on-saturday-thing, not the Rapture in general).
Love: To MK, Birdie, Bubbalub, Kiki, and anyone else who was in the UO thread last night and sent me love after I got pissed off by that stupid troll.  Also to Mica and Opal for banning said stupid troll. I'd flame the troll but that's just redundant, and she's (it's?) been banned anway. Vent: I am so sick of this stupid cold, of having puffy inflamed sinuses, and of not being able to speak properly because I'm stuffed up.  I keep hoping that I'm going to wake up and it'll be over.  Bah.
    Posted by baystateapple
Bay I think just all of us being able to talk about it openly helps. Stupid people like Sapphire are the ones that make us ashamed to be open about anxiety and depression. I find it rather comforting to know, now, that so many other people that I interact with truly understand what I am going through. Big hugs to you and all the others.

My vent is that I think I've gained even more weight because my previously well-fitting to slightly loose pants are now tight. Wtf is wrong with me? I've even started exercising more and being more careful of what I eat. Fuckaduck.

Yeah, until then, just keep it all slathered up in Neosporin to keep it as "un-dry" as possible I guess. Mine was my knee, right below the kneecap, so everytime I bent it, I reopened it. And I fell on it 3 times - third time in gravel. I'm not ashamed to admit there were tears that time. I was learning, and kept forgetting about the cage (I didn't have biking shoes yet) and that I had to pull my foot back, not go straight to the left.

Think I tried that also years ago and didn't notice much difference. But, it's worth a shot.

They haven't been able to get my synthroid dosage right for years, and I bet that has something to do with it. So frustrated. And seriously worried I'm gonna need a wig soon.

That is about the funniestshit I've read in a LONG time. Thanks, Celles!

And I already flamed her in the thread, but sweet baby Jesus, scottswife, you really take the cake. Should I judge all women who go through childbirth and opt for an epidural? I didn't have one, nobody else should either, you bunch of pantywaists.
  • I think Celles is just saying that there's a hint of hypocrisy there. Like when Isaac Hayes left South Park in a huff because they finally got around to mocking HIS religion. It would likely be frowned upon to mock the major religions on a daily basis and wouldn't do much for making friends. But mockery of the 5/21 people seems to be generally accepted because they're of the fringe. I don't believe Celles feels that religious people can't find the beliefs of others to be absurd. I think she just feels that many religious people (currently) are taking advantage of a moment to make a mockery of the preposterous beliefs of others, and is pointing out that were she to do the same, it wouldn't be acceptable because the beliefs she finds to be preposterous are more widely accepted. Eta- so I see like 20 posts about how the mockery is directed toward the extremism and not the belief itself. I can dig it.
  • Daff, you should try prenatals. I guess any old vitamins would do, but I'm taking the One A Days with an additional DHA, and I could cut paper with my strong nails, and I've been able to go longer w/o a haircut.

Plus, think of what your H would think if he saw prenatals in the bathroom. Wink
