Local Foods You Wish the Whole World Knew About

Re: Local Foods You Wish the Whole World Knew About

  • I would probably cheerfully murder someone for a potato and cheese perogi smothered with onions right about now.

When I moved from Cleveland OH to California, I most missed real apple cider, fresh kielbasa and a galley boy burger from Swenson's. Oh, and a good fish fry during Lent.

From LA to Westchester County NY, I miss good Vietnamese food and Quality Seafood in Redondo Beach. Having a kumquat tree outside my front door was also awesome. Fresh oysters with lemon and topatillo sauce. Mmmmm...

I'm not really sure what's "local" to where I live now that I can't find elsewhere. I should find out.
  • Yup Whoopie pies except I don't eat those...

Also delicious creamy NE clam chowder. Potatoes, bacon, clams, corn, cream, delicious. Is lobster bisque popular everywhere? I LOVE lobster bisque.

This isn't really NE native unless you consider Watertown, but stuffed grape leaves (done right) are amazing.

Do they also call it squeaky cheese? I think I have had it at the Tillamook factory. Very tasty!

  • Add me to the list of cheese curd lovers! I lived in Wisconsin for several years and ate them often. *wistful sigh*

I'm originally from Iowa, though, and the weird super-local food I buy whenever I go back is kringla. They're little figure eight shaped pastries...not too sweet...I think it's a Norwegian thing. Zimsgirl, maybe you know what I'm talking about. See, like this:

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Local Foods You Wish the Whole World Knew About : This is so funny! :) I seriously love Cooperstown though. My grandparent's house is on main street, really close to the library/across the street from the baseball hall of fame. It's so idyllic. And Cheerwine should be the exception to anyone's rule! We accidentally requested it in Virginia (at a Wendy's) one time years ago and they were super confused and were like, we don't sell alcohol here.

JEALOUS. I've been the the BBHOF though and it's awesome. I want to go back soon because my favorite player (Barry Larkin) is being inducted this year!

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Local Foods You Wish the Whole World Knew About : Y'all will HAVE to go to Beasley's Chicken and Waffles the next time you're in Raleigh then!! It's sooo yummy!!! They also have it at Mandolin, but it's more pricey in general there.

You'll have to give me a list of some good restaurants to try! I'm so happy we'll be so close to downtown - they have so many great places there!
