Confess...

(I totally just tried to post this, but it disappeared...let's see if it works this time...)

Since it's been so serious around here lately (which isn't necessarily a bad thing), I thought it would be fun to play a game.  So tell me...what are some opinions you hold that are different from the norm?  What are your guilty pleasures?  Tryr to keep to somewhat neutral topics (ie not gay marriage), and just tell us about what things you like/don't like that make you different.

Re: Confess...

  • I hate playing sports.  Anytime I'm in a social gathering and people want to play volleyball or something, I sit out.  It's completely and totally because I'm bad at sports, though, and if I try to play, it often ends in tears.

I hate olives.  That's not necessarily unpopular (it seems like half of all people adore them, and half hate them, and then there's like, .001% of people who are neutral).

I would rather clean the toilet that vaccuum stairs.

  • I hate olives too.

I love spelling. I used to do all the spelling bees when I was younger and had a great time with it.

I hate TV's on in the background, phones ringing loudly, etc. I can't remember the last time I turned a TV on by/for myself. I'll watch a show if H wants to or if friends are over and they want to, and enjoy it (possibly) but will never do it myself.

  • I'm not a fan of most reality TV, I find a lot of the shows incredibly annoying... but I do watch (and like) Dance Moms :)

I'm a sucker for info/historical fiction on King Henry VIII.

I'm with you in being anti-olive!
  • I used to love video games, but I hate the newer systems...as in, anything made in the 2000s basically lol.  I don't like things being too realistic, and I hate all the extra buttons.  Set me down with Super Mario World, and I'll play for 8 hours.  Set me down with any game on XBox, and I'm done in 10 minutes or less.

  • Erin, I've never watched Dance Moms, but I have a feeling I'd love it.

  • I too hate olives.
    I too love Dance Moms

This week I've just been wanting to drop everything, climb in bed and read Harry Potter.

  • Haha, I'm reading Goblet of Fire these days.  Love it!

  • Just say no to olives. Ew.

I'm also terrible at sports. No, terrible is an understatement. I am worse than terrible at sports.

I don't like video games and never have. I don't own a gaming system, never have, and never plan to.

  • I've never been too much of a gamer - I loved a Ms Pac Man game that was for the N64 back in the day, and have always been a fan of Mario Kart and those kinds of games.  Anything with much of a storyline, and I just get lost. We have an Xbox, and just got a PS3 not long ago, but I only use them for Netflix so far.  H and I have looked at games to see if there's anything I would enjoy, but nothing really grabs my attention.

I used to think that Lord of the Rings movies were stupid, but since H and I started dating we've watched all of them several times, and saw The Hobbit in the theatres.  I actually kind of like the movies now, and am contemplating reading the books - now that I'm finished with the Game of Thrones books 1-5 and am floundering around trying to find something else to read :)
  • I hate oreo cookies and orange juice. I am addicted to reality tv, specifically the entire gordon ramsay repertoire. I also like joan and melissa rivers' shiw on WE. At one point in my life i was a really good trumpet player.
  • I share Cfasz's culinary taste.  I like some more "refined" types of foods, but I also can sit and eat pizza, wings, and mozarella sticks for ever.

I hate wine.  And beer.  I've tried so many different kinds... I just can't get into it.  I can only drink mixed drinks, like margaritas.

I'm a sucker for GOOD chick flicks and can cry at any sad/sweet/romantic scene in a movie (I just cried at the end of the Wedding Singer the other day), but I can't stand The Notebook and a lot of other popular chick movies (we've had this discussion before, ha).

I hate sports.  All sports.  Can't play them... was always the kid picked last in gym.

I don't tend to watch too much "trash" kind of TV, but I do love some America's next top model.  Probably goes against everything I believe in, but I love fashion and models.

  • Ugh, I hate LOTR.  I even read the Hobbit.

I hate Nickelback.  Like,. REALLY hate 'em.

  • I also dislike olives very much.
I never liked LOTR.  I watched like 3/4 of the first movie and hated it, so I never continued.  H insists I have to give it another shot, so I'm sure it'll happen soon.

I hate beer.  I've never liked it.
I also think "reality" shows are stupid.  My only exceptions are Pawn Stars and Storage Wars. Moreso because it's not liek they're really following the lives of people.

I also think the FDA needs to be dissolved and rebuilt.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Confess... : GIve it a shot! I would start with the Hobbit. It's a really easy read. LOTR is a little more difficult because Tolkien can be incredibly wordy. The stories are fantastic though. I'm actually re-reading them all now.

I will definitely do that!  We own the Hobbit book, H bought it for beach reading for our honeymoon.  He has LOTR too, but hasn't read much since our honeymoon back in December, so who knows how long it will take him to get through it.  I'm sure he wouldn't mind if I borrowed it :)
  • Nickelback is alright, I definitely prefer their older songs to their more recent stuff.  I saw them in concert a few years ago - it was good, but Shinedown and Breaking Benjamin were opening for Nickelback, and I would've liked to see more from those two and less from Nickelback overall.

I just saw Shinedown in concert this past Saturday - they are amazing live.  Definitely one of my favorite bands.
  • I don't like ketchup on fries.  It's not like I'll refuse to eat fries with ketchup, but I'd never choose to put ketchup on them.  I like ketchup on scrambled eggs, hash browns, veggie burgers, etc....just not on fries.

  • I feel like such a stuck-up when it comes to music.  I love pretty much any rock n' roll that came from the 90's and before, but today's stuff is just ridiculous to me.  And I will make really snide comments about how horrible the lyrics or the singer or the music overall is and then I hear my dad's voice saying exactly the same thing about the music I loved to listen to as a kid.

As a teacher, I am a total scrooge when it comes to parties and food.  I never let kids bring food to class to share, and aside from writing down everyone's birthday on a cute little paper cupcake, I don't do huge celebrations.  I just feel like the classroom is for learning, and especially with some of the kids I've taught, there's just no time for that kind of distraction.  I feel like it definitely costs me some popularity points, but I just don't really care.

And I've only watched a clip of a Nicholas Sparks movie because a professor showed it in college to demonstrate some educational school of thought... I don't even remember what point he was trying to make.  Just that every other girl in the room went, "AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!" while the two poor guys and I were like, "Ugh why do I have to sit through this torture?!"

  • I also dislike playing sports. I have no problem watching, but would rather do just about anything than play. I dislike strongly hot summer days. I love French fries and ice cream (as a meal or snack with nothing else). Oh and old Saturday morning cartoons and TGIF shows. I totally wish Hulu or Netflix had categories of them!
  • OMG Resa I have never met anyone else who shared my distaste for ketchup!  I am so happy right now!

I loooooove ketchup. Love. Especially on fries. I have something of a reputation as a ketchup addict. Know what it's really good on? Grilled cheese.

When I was pregnant, I would have happily lived on fries, fruit and frozen desserts.

I love reality TV. Especially competitive reality shows. But I can't stand shows like the Real Housewives of _____. I can't stand the lack of logic or skills in human interaction. I hate that they only exist to watch people fight.

  • I hate stopping the car for ANYTHING on car trips.  I use the bathroom before I leave and bring snacks, and fill up the car before I leave town.  If I have a say, I don't stop for anything except gas.  And the gas times are the only acceptable times to use the bathroom or get food.  I don't think that waiting four hours for those things is that hard and stopping is a huge waste of time.

I also would rather drive for 8 hours straight than to drive 5 minutes to the grocery store.  I try to get my FH to do all the driving around town and then I volunteer to do the long road trips--where I try to prevent him from going to the bathroom.  It doesn't work, but I try. :)

Yes!  and i always gas up the night before so i can just get in and GO!
  • Oh, Biblio....you would hate me and my Real Housewives addiction!  I seriously love that show!

I hate motorcycles.  Like, I REALLY hate them and wish they were illegal. Motorcycles are incredibly dangerous, and no matter how safe you are at driving one, it's dangerous...that's like saying you use heroin safely.  I'm sorry, I don't buy it.  I just don't think they have a place on the roads with cars, particularly bigger ones like SUVs and trucks.

  • Prof, I am with you on the music. With a select few exceptions most of the music on the radio is complete garbage not worth the airspace it takes up. And yes I know I’m an old crotchety lady and I don’t care.

ME TOO. Omgoodness me too. I get especially irked when there are billboards and bumper stickers saying "look twice, motorcycles are everywhere!!" and then a motorcycle flies by going 90 in a 60, weaving in and out of lanes of traffic. And I'M the one that has to look twice. I see.

  • Idk, I love some of the new music out there.  While I seriously appreciate some older stuff, I'm still open to newer stuff, too.   "Call Me Maybe" was a HORRIFIC song, I know, but there were horrific songs back in the good ol' days, too.  I typically hate Taylor Swift (how is it that she has not matured emotionally AT ALL in the last several years?) but I kiiiinda like "Trouble."  I'm a huge fan of rap and hip hop, though...I curse like a sailor half the time, so I have no trouble getting past the language lol.

  • There are some new things I like...I like the Killers, the Postal Service (ok maybe not so new anymore lol...I don't even know if they're making new stuff) and Mumford & Sons (typical, I know.)

Never met a rap "song" I liked.

  • I wasn't allowed to listen to the Beatles growing up.  It's "bubble gum pop" according to my Dad...he was a Stones fan.

  • I hate live music. That is excluding classical or choral which is mostly what I listen to anyway. But even when I listened to "modern" stuff, I hated going to concerts. Ha, one day, my husband (then fiancé) came home and said "I just bought us tickets to Metallica." Uhh, who's "we", I asked. That was an experience. And speaking of LOTR, when my husband and I consolidated all our stuff right before our wedding, we each had a copy of the extended version of the LOTR movies. I decided to sell my copy and I swear, that indicated more of a lifetime commitment than any ceremony. ;)

  • I would much rather sit on the side and drink a beer and chat with friends then play volleyball, or any sports. Lucky for me, it is too risky for me to play anyway because I can't change hurting my fingers or wrists. (don't bowl either)
