Being Judgey

I know there are sometimes "I judge..." posts but I can't wait! I need to get this stupid thing off of my chest. I totally judge people who are dying to get married in a barn and are looking all over the place to find one. I  thought this whole "rustic" "country" "burlap and mason jar" farm wedding trend arose from girls who, you know, grew up on farms.  People who actually have big barns on family land and want to have a simple chic wedding close to home. Whenever I see a post asking for help finding a barn in so and so state, I get super annoyed. Why do you want to get married in the place where animals poop and sleep if you don't even have one meaningful to you??

I need to get off Pinterest.

Re: Being Judgey

  • My grandmother had a couple drive up to her property, HOP THE LOCKED FENCE, and walk up to her door. She answered with a shotgun. They managed to stammer out that they wanted to get married in a barn and were wondering if they could pay her to use her land/barn for the day.

    She cocked the gun.

That's about how I feel about that trend, too.

I'm getting married in a ballroom.

And yes, I am being judgey. Hence my post title. This trend has just been everywhere and smacks of insincerity/bandwagon-ing. I also dislike a lot of other little trends that create a false sense of "meaningfulness" that were culled from Pinterest.

  • I do not judge barn weddings, I just don't get [what appears to be] a sudden love for them.  My grandfather's smelled really bad.

That's another thing we mirror on. I HATE the texture of them omg. I also don't like the texture of trucker hats or the sound either makes if someone brushes against them. It makes my hair stand up.  I thought I was just weird. Well...I am ...but I thought I was alone on that.

You'll never be subject to a cash bar, gap, potluck wedding, or b-list if you marry a Muppet Overlord.

  • I think barn weddings can be beautiful.....in a barn that was specifically repurposed for the sole intention of events and no longer holds animals. We have a ton of those up here, but it's really expensive to rent them which makes me no longer understand the appeal of spending a ton of money for the appearance of rustic.

  • Barn weddings aren't my thing. Its not what I would choose for my own wedding, but who am I to say how other people can celebrate their love? I wouldn't. I don't care. I have better things to be worried about. If you are so offended by barn weddings, don't have one, and don't go to one.

Its sad that people can't celebrate their love in their own chosen way without being made fun of.

I'm just mad because I wanted a Barn wedding before it was cool and now I'll be behind the curve instead of in front of it.

ETA: there was a specific barn venue, not just any ole barn.

Those were really popular at my proms, and as a sophomore, I just had to get some. They are awful, and the most uncomfortable things I've ever worn. Never again. But mine did have pink ribbons that laced up my legs, so they were marginally more attractive than most.

I don't really judge any choice of venue, unless it's a huge pain for guests.

ETA: I guess I do judge a little when people who aren't religious seek out a church to get married in.

The barn venues for weddings are refurbished specifically for weddings and other events.  They are clean, have fully functioning bathrooms, etc.  At least many in my area are this way. They seem to be very pretty, and I have no problem with the idea or the look.

"Love is the one thing we're capable of perceiving that transcends time and space."

  • I don't judge the barn idea (its a pretty common thing in GA) though its not my cup of tea. I do judge all the burlap mixed with lace on Pinterest. Really, burlap, like for potatoes and sack races, is now the chic wedding fabric? Also, I don't see anything wrong with being judgey, whether its for pertinent things or superficial things. And judging a wedding, isn't that the whole point of the 4 weddings show?
  • HECK NAW, I loved me some Jellies!!!!!  They were the actual highlight of my 7th grade year... BUT I am talking about those "Cinderella" shoes, that are just sweat receptacles... sheesh.... OH THE HUMANITY....
