Re: Current you vs. HS you
In HS I was much thinner and blonde. I'm now a dark brunette and have gained 80lbs from being sick. It sucks. I hate my weight and since going off meds have been kicking my ass back into shape (well not counting the drinking spree this weekend).
~Personality
I'm much more sure of myself. I don't need people to like me and I have no problem calling people out on their bullshit. I'm just more secure in who I am.
~Interests/hobbies
I've had to give up some hobbies and that has surprised some people. I used to be heavily into photography. I even had some work in an art show when I was 17. I also used to perform in musicals and was a classically trained opera singer. I performed in some shows in Philly and NYC, but like photography I stopped training because I knew I wasn't cut out for a life in the arts with all of the uncertainty.
Do you think people from HS would be surprised when they found out what you do for a living or was it pretty much in line with how you were in HS?
I think people are somewhat surprised because I selected my undergrad degree and school program specifically to allow me to study cellular neuroscience and move onto medical school to specialize in pediatric neurosurgery. I spent a lot of time in hospitals and I just couldn't stand the idea of working in one for the rest of my life.
I now work in the business side of pharmaceuticals and will be on the business legal side when I finish law school. I guess its similar to how I was in HS.
Personality - I'm way more confident. I was the shy quiet one, but now I'm much more sure of myself in crowds and among people I don't know. I'm more outgoing now too. I'm more okay with my sci-fi nerdiness too!
Interests/hobbies - I worked for most of highschool a lot, so I didn't have many to begin with. I wrote poetry, but I don't do that anymore, I think I ran out of teen angst to draw from. People would be surprised that I work out and enjoy it, cause I HATED gym class and the whole excercise concept. They'd probably be surprised about my sci-fi nerdiness, but that was more because I concealed it at the time. And they'd never peg me for having a designer shoe/clothes fetish.
As far as what I do now, probably not so much. I was always into psychology and sociology and science in school. And I was the studious type, so it wouldn't be surprising to them to find out I want a phd.

Looks - I think I basically look the same. I put on a little weight, but I don't think I look drastically different.
Personality - I'm probably more quiet and reserved now than I was then. I was definitely more social in HS, but moving away from NY has made it difficult for me to be social so I guess it's hard to judge.
Interests/hobbies - I was a music/theater dork in HS and I still am.
No one would be surprised AT ALL to find out I became a music teacher.
BFP(4) DD2 born 2.14.13 @ 35w5d due to pPROM
I also had a small role in an off broadway musical called TickTick Boom. I've also performed in some operas but preferred musical theater but my voice was more inclined to opera due to me being so high pitched.
I had private vocal coaches since I wasn't willing to switch to an arts high school. I did train at Juilliard for a few summers.
How interesting, apro! What shows have you done and where did you train? Looks - I think I basically look the same. I put on a little weight, but I don't think I look drastically different. I love music theater =) and I am also a dork. Our school musicals would be produced in the fall. I was also on the varsity soccer team all four years so I'd have soccer practice and them run to theater practice all stinky and dirty. Fun times.
Now- I think I've grown in to my body. I work out a lot now so while the scale has gone up a bit, I actually think I look trimmer. I've learned how to get control of my frizzy hair and wear makeup in a natural way. I think I just gained more confidence and learned to dress myself- sad but it had to happen.
~Personality- I was president of the drama club and editor of the yearbook in high school. I hated everyone but loved to be on stage. I was overly studious and really had a terrible time making friends.
Now- I dont care what people think about me. I am much happier, much more light hearted. I haven't been on a stage since high school... and I don't feel so overwhelmed meeting new people. I think just overall I am a lot more easy going and satisfied with life and that comes out in my personality.
~Interests/hobbies- well like I said- I dont do drama anymore or write depressing poetry or do any of the dramatic stuff I used to. Now- I stick to cooking and reading books and spending time with my friends.
As for what I do- well I always said I'd go to law school... and now I am in it. I think the three years I spent producing TV news was more surprising to people. I was always on stage but then took a job behind the camera and loved it..

i was alot thinner back then. When I retired from dance I gained some weight. I also am blonde now.
~Personality
I am alot more confident now. I worried way too much back then about what others thought
~Interests/hobbies
I was all about dance
Do you think people from HS would be surprised when they found out what you do for a living or was it pretty much in line with how you were in HS?
When I worked at Coyote Ugly, a few hs people came in and were pretty shocked.

IVF #1= BFP. m/c at 7w6d. Needed 2 D&C's and scar tissue removal. Mild OHSS
IVF #2 = BFP. Severe OHSS. 4 Drainings. TWINS!
~Looks well if It was a little over a year ago, people were surprised by how much weight I did loose since High school.. But now I have it all back plus some so not much different since then. My style has changed as well. I was a big tom-boy in high school. I grew out of that to a point. I don't wear dress's or skirts but I definitely have more girly blouses and pants.
~Personality... Still quiet but a little more open when I am comfortable about people. I click on quicker I think now then I did then. I tell it how it is more now then I ever have.
~Interests/hobbies-This changed big time. When i was in school I was really into ASL-American Sign Lan. and now I am more into computers. I even gotten a D in my computer class in 9th grade that was a required class. So this would be a big difference. I still hang out with the same group of Friends so that is not much different. My best friend is the same since before we even were in school.
Do you think people from HS would be surprised when they found out what you do for a living or was it pretty much in line with how you were in HS?
Well, Yes maybe, at the fact I was in retail for almost the entire time I been out of school I think that would come to a shock to a few. And now that I'm not working, that would be a bigger shock since a lot of people knew I was all about working and getting things for myself since I was 16. So they would know something was preventing me from working.

THe version We did had Michael, Jon, Susan and Carissa (I'm not sure of spelling). We also had a company of singers and some dancers. I had a few speaking lines and sang company songs.
~Personality: i am still just as going and loud but I went to a christian school and used to be very judgemental and religous. I have since loosened up on my religous perspective and forgiven myself and the people around me. I think I am a better person for it. However you told people from HS that I live with my FI they might be shocked.
~Interests/hobbies have always been extremely athletics and I still am so that hasn't changed. I don't think I have picked up any new hobbies that would be shocking.
Yes I think people who haven't seen me since HS would be shocked. But if they know me still on FB it wouldn't be quite as shocking.

Posted by sucrets4
Looks: I am MUCH hotter now, haha. Actually, to be serious, my body is fairly similar (still have small boobs although they're ever so slightly bigger now, a big nose, skinny (albeit with more cellulite now!)), but my hair and eyebrows are much better (aka I learnt about hair straighteners and cut off the crazy frizzy mess that was my hs hair, and figured out how to shape my eyebrows), my skin is clear and I look far less awkward. I also learnt how to dress for my body etc, which helped!

Personality: I'm more confident and so much more positive. I'd say there isn't much that would surprise anyone who knew me then! Likewise with work, my research/child focus probably wouldn't surprise many people.

It's actually my 10 year reunion this year, but I'll be in Honolulu/Osaka (convenient excuse as I didn't really want to go anyway!).

A small tour in Philly....I think 2002. I was in before heading off to college.
Personality: I'm not as out-going now as I was in high school. I used to bring friends out of their shells and now I'm kind of quiet myself.
Interests/Hobbies: H and I have gotten into wine and beer tastings. I drank for a little bit with friends in HS, but I stopped at a certain point and I'm pretty sure most of them would be shocked to know alcohol ever touched my lips again.
I don't think anyone would be surprised by what I do for a living. I double majored in math in high school (I took math classes for fun), so to find out I'm in accounting now would probably make a hell of a lot of sense to most people.
Just call me "Brothel"
And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

Interests are the same, writing and art.
Personality, I've loosened up a bit. I was a major bitch, and a bitter one at that. I was miserable in HS, I guess because I refused to deal with things from my past. H helped me through a lot of that. I'm still anti-social, but not nearly as bad.
Personality: I don't think I'm all that different. I still like to joke around and be silly. However, I think my life has hardened me some - I'm not as "light" as I once was.
Interests: I don't swim for fitness anymore. I'm still into cars and painting. If you'd told 17-year-old me that I'd be an aspiring baker with 2 large tattoo pieces (in addition to two small ones) right now, she'd laugh at you. And no, I don't think people would have expected that I'd be a tax analyst. I was so into science and art - something as blah as finance is probably the last thing they would have expected me to do.

Infertile, living childfree, advocating like a BOSS
~Personality - I am much more chill now than I was then. I was going through a very deep depression that I never told anyone about while dealing with major changes in my religious believes and social circles. I spent most of high school either incredibly depressed or angry at the world. I also dyed my hair blue regularly and dressed like a hippie punk regularly (yeah, both, at once lol)
~Interests/hobbies - Back then I was into everything. Horses, Tae Kwon Do, Art, Drama, everything. I think they would be surprised that now my main hobby is crocheting and I'm more of a home body.
They also thought I would be the last of our friends to get married, and spend most of my 20's travelling the world and being crazy. They are very surprised to learn I'm married, ttc, own my house and have a job working as a high school tech support.
House / Baby blog
I think I am a lot plainer now than I was then - in highschool I volleyed between the raver/partier crowd and my punk roots so I wore crazy clothes and accessories, vivid makeup (I loved playing around with bright colours and glitter on my eyes), had short blond spikey hair that was sometimes underneath a blue wig. Now I just have normal curly brown hair and Im a jeans/tshirt type of person unless I am at work and then Im a slacks/blouse type of person. Very plain, no makeup or accessories. I just am not into that anymore.
~Personality
I think I am pretty much the same. I was loud and strange then, and Im still loud and strange now. I was always very talkative and outgoing and I am pretty much that way now. It has translated really well into my professional life because I am very good at talking with people and communication. That said, I am still a loner, I always have been, so I prefer being on my own.
~Interests/hobbies
My interests then were music, reading, and partying. My interests now are music, reading and drinking. I guess its kind of the same.
Do you think people from HS would be surprised when they found out what you do for a living or was it pretty much in line with how you were in HS?
I think it would be a huge surprise that I ended up a functioning member of society. I did a lot of drugs in highschool and didnt put much effort towards my grades/school work unless it was in art class. I think the fact that I ended up an office manager and am married is a strange fate when you knew me back then. A lot of people were surprised when they found out I am actually married.
Personality - I'm much more confident and more understated. I was extremely shy, but felt the need to exagerate my self to get any attention. After college, I settled into myself and found a great deal of peace in simply being me - which means being an awkward, sensitive, and cute poet-type.
My interests then were music, literature, art. My interests now are similiar, but have expanded out - I've learned how to embrace and celebrate everything and anything - writing, teaching, mountain biking, writing, climbing, skiing, big mountain exploration/back country skiing, running - I feel more free and younger now than i did back then, as though I'm free to allow myself to explore all the things around me.
And,would they be surprised? Yes and no. I always knew that I would be a writer, and I'm sure everyone else heard that resonance. They would be surprised that I finished my MFA so quickly and that I began teaching almost immediately afterwards - it's always assumed that if you grew up in my home town, you stayed in my home town and made babies. When I announced to many friends and family that I was moving out to CO to start over, there were many "WHAT!" stares across the room. They also would be very surprised that I'm getting married (I was always a bit of a commitment phobe in highschool and college) And surprised that I'm marrying a mountain man of sorts - always seemed to be more of a city girl.
Overall, highschool was a learning experience, but I am so much happier and confident now. I grew into myself and I don't think I ever look back.

Own it!
hmm my looks varied. I was bleach blonde for half, dark brown/super short for the other. I also wore a lot of oversized clothing, sort of gothy/punk/grunge. And lots of bracelets. hahah. Now no one I run into recognizes me at ALL. I have dark hair but am more 'normal' and simple in my clothing.
Personality...I was super shy then and a confused weirdo. I'm still shy and not too confident but am definitely more open. But mostly I'm the same with more maturity and insight.
Hobbies/interests... I loved going to punk shows. I still would go if I lived around my friends! Also I raised rabbits, had a dog, and rode horses. Now I just have dogs but would still love to do the others in the future. Still a computer nerd but love spending time outdoors.
Mostly I'm just glad I'm not an awkward girl wearing men's Dickies anymore
Personality: about the same.
Interests/hobbies: I liked to party and go clubbing, and I loved camping with my friends. I also ran a lot (usually 4-6 miles 5 days a week). I pretty much hate all of those things now. DH and I are really into wine-tasting. I swim now instead of run, but even that is fairly rare, definitely not 5 days a week.
I took every math class at my HS and had a near perfect score on the math section of the SAT, so I don't think anyone would be surprised that I'm an accountant.
