  • Uh, sterilization is NOT a body alteration?

  • It's not one like a tattoo, that someone can obtain without much thought and that doesn't obviously affect your life.

  • I need to sign off.  H is getting pissy about being ignored.  I need to find him some friends so he is less dependant on me for his entertainment.. LOL.  I love him :).
  • Okay, just need an opinon here: H's coworker called him a "p*ssy" at work.  Totally inappropriate, right?  I'm not being an overly sensitive Californian, right?
  • I'm glad I got my tubes tied...but it irked the hell out of me that my doc wouldn't do it when I had my c-section...he was in there already. I had to go back and have it done later that year.  Granted he did it laproscopically, but it was still another invasive proceedure!

  • Baney has a point re: the amount of work you have to go through to get sterilization surgery.  H had to have a consultation with the surgeon, I had to have a consultation with the surgeon, he met with us both together, and we BOTH had to sign off that we were ok with it.

Now that I think about it, I wonder what happens when the guy (or girl) is single.

Either way, I doubt Poke's friend will find a doctor who will do the surgery.  They're even more reluctant to do female sterilization because it's so much more invasive.

  • I've told CW before that I think I think the legal and the social/religious marriages should be separate, like in Europe and most of Latin America.  The state supervises one thing, the other thing is up to the church (if applicable) and sociaty.
  • Yeah, if that's how they normally talk, meh.  But if it was not the norm, yeah, not ok.

I'm walking around in my pajamas and my new heels for next weekend's wedding.  H thinks I'm a nutter.  He has clearly never worn heels that weren't properly broken in.

Everything the light touches is my kingdom.
  • Mica, that's what makes the most sense to me. Why should someone else's religion decide what legal contracts I can enter into?

<div>This.  If one of H's coworkers said this to him, it wouldn't be a big deal, but they're friends outside of work and give each other crap all the time.  Other coworkers with whom he doesn't have that kind of relationship, then yeah, I'd think it was inappropriate.</div>
  • Yeah, no.  They are both university professors, talking in front of students.  I said it was not appropriate or professional to use words that could be considered deragatory in front of subordinates.

But I'm the hippie dippy, so I wanted to make sure.  At my previous university, if that happened, the person using the quesitonable word would be fired, without question.

H is a southerner and used up all of his energy not to punch the guy.

<div>My mom's friend got her tubes tied. She's got Chron's and somehow the doctor performing the surgery didn't know it so he came out and told her husband that she seemed to have a large tumor or something like that. They also accidently cut her bladder open. </div>

  • Lizzie, that's strange about the doctor not performing the tubal while they were in there.  A friend of mine had it doen when her 3rd was born and she told me it only added 10 minutes to her c-section.
