Friday afternoon curiosity poll: Is your wedding band engraved?

If so, what does it say? Initials and date? Just the date? Cute in-joke?

I kind of had no idea that was even a Thing, but now it strikes me as super obvious and also charmingly old-fashioned and sweet.

And because I just said the phrase "old fashioned" and this is a boring post, here's Don Draper having an Old Fashioned and thinking something is ridiculous.

I dont have a band yet but am considering it

  • Not engraved, but I think it's a really sweet idea.

  • My band is not engraved. Not considering it.
  • My engagement ring is engraved, and my wedding band will be, too. As will FI's actually.

As to the engravings themselves...they're private. We haven't told anyone else what he had put in mine and what I'm having put in his. But I will say it's "something sentimental."

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • My bands will be engraved. Mine will say "Moon of my life" and his will say "My sun and stars". That is what khaleesi and kal drogo call each other on game of thrones. He and I have cheap metal rings that say it now. I am going to engrave them as a surprise for him.

  • I would engrave my BF's band with "I'm gonna buy you so many lizards." I've suggested this to him. He laughed for 15 straight minutes and then told me that I must do this.

That's awesome and I admire your restraint at not putting them in Dothraki. I really do.

  • Yeah thats where I drew the line. Lol bad enough my family is kind of wild so I am a tad worried about having a Dothraki wedding....as in too much drinking and the probability of a fight.

  • And thank you.

  • Well, fewer than three deaths and it'll be considered "a dull affair."

  • I thought about it, but FI's band is tungsten, not sure it can be engraved. My E-ring is so skinny of a band, I think the words would be tiny.

  • No engravings for us. In part, we ordered them too late to be sure they'd get back to us in time for the wedding. I also just couldn't think of anything I'd want engraved on the inside of my ring, and it just seemed like one more thing to pay for.

  • Not engraved and not considering it. My band and e-ring are quite thin.

  • My wedding band has our wedding date engraved on it, but I only did it because it was free.

  • My ering couldn't be engraved because it has a thin band and between all the info they crammed on there already it left no room for anything else. My wedding band is actually an enhancer and its also fairly thin so no engraving on it either and I'm ok with that because I don't think I would know what to engrave on it anyway.

  • My engagement ring is relatively thin. No idea what my band will look like yet. I would love to get it engraved with something but we'll have to see. My fiance has expressed on interest in a tungsten band and if those can't be engraved I guess his is out.

  • Nope but my e-ring has our engagement date engraved on it.

  • We haven't decided yet.  When we picked up our rings, the jeweler told us if we decide to do it, we can drop them off any morning and he'll do them free of charge by the end of the day, which is really nice.
  • My e-ring has the engagement date and the wedding bands will have the wedding date. I wouldn't mind putting something else on there but there's really not room.

This is a really sweet idea!
  • MY wedding band is engraved, but it's was my grandmother's wedding band.  It has their initials and the date 06-09-30.  Yep, 1930.  It's a VERY thin band. Not sure how it was engraved, but it was back in 1930.   DH's is not engraved.

What differentiates an average host and a great host is anticipating unexpressed needs and wants of their guests.  Just because the want/need is not expressed, doesn't mean it wouldn't be appreciated.
  • Ours aren't engraved. We never considered it. My engagement ring band tapers from 2mm to 1mm, so not really big enough for an engraving anyway, and we just never felt like doing the wedding bands.

My engagement ring and wedding band are engraved. The e-ring with the date we got engaged and the band with the date we got married.  My bands are both thin, but the engraving looks fine.

That's so cool!  Color me jealous.  I love the idea of family rings, I think it's really special to have that history on your finger.  My mother has her great-grandmother's engraved engagement bracelet from 1911.  I think it will end up being my "something old."

We have not purchased our bands yet, but we have no plans on engraving them.

Tungsten can be laser engraved. It's probably more expensive but it can be done. I'm planning on getting FIs engraved but since it only came in yesterday I haven't really looked into it much

  • We haven't purchased our bands yet bug FH engraved my ering. When we were looking at rings and decided on custom making my ring, I joked with FH that on his band I would put "Bazinga!", because he would say that instead of "I love you" to me. He took the ring back to our jeweler and had it engraved on my band and got it back the morning he proposed. I'm not sure if we will engrave my band or not. Once I know what type of band FH wants, if it can be engraved I will, if not, maybe I will get a watch and have that engraved.
