  • I don't think you're violating TOS, you're giving that info of your own free will. Now if say you were posting flutterfly's place of residence without her consent, then you'd be violating TOS.

Anyway, back on topic ... I live in ND, for what it's worth, and most people are really good about shoes off. A lot of homes have a lot of carpeting, and dirty snow water and mud are no fun to clean out of carpet.
  • FI hates shoes in the house. I don't like wearing shoes and socks, but have to have something on my feet (like flip flops or similar). So I have a pair of crocs I typically wear around the house.

When I go to other people's homes I follow their lead. If I see them shoeless and shoes at the door I typically follow suit. I wouldn't be offended if someone told me I could do whichever was comfortable but I do not like being told I must do it one way or another.

I'm in New England as well if that makes a difference

  • At my house, we make everyone keep their shoes on. Just when someone starts to take them off, we just say "you don't have to take them off, just leave them on" We have dogs (anywhere from 3-6) in our house and they tend to go pee on the carpet... so instead of people getting the wet feet and us feeling extremely bad, we just tell people it's better if they keep them on.

  • My shoes are generally part of my outfit and I've been embarrassed before when asked to remove my boots (not snow or weather boots, just normal knee-highs) because I tuck my jeans into my boot socks (to reduce bunching at the knees). One time I was wearing some awful crazy socks because they were all that I had clean and everyone got to see them. If I had known prior that I couldn't wear my shoes, I wouldn't have worn them.

I understand if people have kids with severe allergies or something and don't want added dirt/dust in their home, but that's about the only time I understand. Luckily, it's not common in my area for people to request no shoes.
