is any of this a dealbreaker for you?

Re: is any of this a dealbreaker for you?

  • If I hadn't met my fiance, the woman described in the OP would sound a lot like me. Here's the part I'm hung up on: the pharmacist should make a decent living, has no rent, but needs to save money? Student and car loans are reasonable things to have to pay off, but he should be making plenty of money to cover these and have some fun, too. I guess I'd want to know, is he trying to pay off his loans at an accelerated rate or is he struggles make his base payments? I don't have enough info to say deal breaker, but definitely a small red flag.
  • Yeah, but it's HIS MONEY.  Period.

After only a few dates, this isn't your business.
  • There is a difference between fiscal responsibility and being a cheapskate.  If this guy paid his whole way through school with student loans and he is a pharmacist (takes a Master's Degree here in MI to be a pharmacist) then maybe he is trying to knock out a bazillion dollars worth of student loans so that he can start building his future.  If he is a cheapskate he will be a cheapskate after all this is paid off.

At face value I would admire someone who was willing to live very simply to knock all that out.  On the other hand, I just spent a few days with my hardcore frugal much older sister and her frugality drives me nuts.  Example - the price of the ink to print something on her printer.  Seriously?  It is an inkjet.

Can't say if there are any red flags because I don't know if he is truly cheap or just being super smart and knocking out student loans as fast as possible.
  • This guy sounds like he's got a good plan going, no shame in that.  Honestly, he sounds awesome.  After a few dates, how he spends his money is none of her business.

And I'm sad that I changed my mind about going to pharm school...

I've somewhat considered going back for pharmacy - with the bioengineering degree and chemical engineering minor, I'd probably have a good chunk of the required classes covered.

DH has looked into pharm school.
  • Barbie, please to be getting this guy's contact info for me. I might be in the market for a man who know how to save money.

I just busted out laughing at this. I really love her but NO ONE can squeeza a penny harder than my sister.
  • @zsazsa-stl - I'll have to let her know that she's got some competition ;-)
  • Maybe he's still broke from his previous wedding to a Knot enthusiast.
