What are you giving your S/O for Christmas?

I need some more ideas for my BF's gifts and its always fun to humble brag about what you're giving instead of receiving over the holidays. I feel like the older I get the more I enjoy shopping for other people...maybe its because the buyer's remorse isn't as instantaneous/strong as it is when I shop for myself.

SO, what are you ladies giving this year? Did you and your S/O set a price limit?

I'm giving BF an android tablet, which is actually all I have gotten so far, but I also plan on giving him a sweatshirt with his grad school mascot on it and a new wallet. And we give each other a collectible ornament each year so I need to pick that our. I'd like to find some other little things to give him too, but out limit was 200 not including the ornament, so I don't know how much more I will be able to get.

Re: What are you giving your S/O for Christmas?

  • H and I have never really done Christmas gifts for each other since we both have large families that we need to buy gifts for. Instead, we usually do something together. Last year we took a Holiday Couple's cooking class which was a ton of fun. This year we talked about doing the same thing but the cooking school didn't have anything that seemed that interesting to us. So we are still trying to figure out what we would like to do. We have a pretty busy Christmas season this year so if we do anything it will be after the holidays.

I'm bad though...I actually bought H a gift without him knowing but it's not anything super exciting. I just wanted to get him something because I like surprising him. I bought him a nice sweater vest and button down from Ralph Lauren (his favorite store). I love him in a sweater...makes me swoon lol.
  • So far, I got my H a Miami Dolphins housekey, a Miami Dolphins tumbler, and a wallet. I had ordered him slippers but apparently Kohls was sold out of them. I still have to get him a "big" gift and I'm leaning towards a fisheye lens for his DSLR camera.

We didn't set a limit this year. We had one the last couple of years because we were saving for our wedding.

  • I bought BF an Xbox One with all the accessories he asked for, some cologne, an Xbox 360 game and The Bigger Blacker Box (CAH expansion). We didn't set a limit on Christmas this year since next year we decided to only buy one thing for each other. Also, we can spend more on each other for the holidays since we buy our parents each one thing (my parents are hard to shop for, to have them give me an idea for ONE thing took them months).

  • I have the most fun with his stocking.  There I can get a bunch of little things that he would like or already likes and I can go to town.  We didn't really do stockings growing up, so last year was my first year doing a stocking for him and this year I'm having even more fun.  I put in some candy, RedSox World Series things, a book about "Old Man Drinks" since he loves classic cocktails, a nice flashlight, etc...

He had a pretty good list this year so I mostly shopped off that.  In the past his parents and brother have asked for ideas, but this year they didn't so I had free reign of the list.  I got him a fleece and some button-down shirts for work in addition to the things off his list.

Not the most exciting gifts, but I know he will like them.

  • We went on a weekend getaway to a cabin a few weeks ago, and ended up deciding that that was our gift to each other.  I had actually already bought him two gifts before that, but one (two Pilsner glasses that have the hockey team emblem on them that is made from the old arena that was torn down) I gave to my Dad to give him (we do secret Santa with my family, and I knew my Dad got my BF's name).  The other gift I already go (Polo-Red cologne) I will give to him for his birthday which is a week after Christmas...there's no limits on his birthday (also got him/me comedy tickets to a comedian he's been dying to see).  We will do stocking stuff and also maybe go out to dinner Christmas eve.
  • The BF and I decided to get each other one small gift this year and save our money for our trip to Disney in May. We agreed that our gifts would be Disney themed. I am making a customized ornament for him and am making an autograph book for our trip :) last year I made sugar cookies from scratch and decorated them with homemade royal icing. Then I got some pretty Christmas baskets and tissue paper and put the cookies in those

I love stocking stuffers too! It's my favorite part.
  • I am having a very tough time with my BF this year. Everything he has wished for is either really expensive or really piddly. I so far have bought him a nice set of collar stays from Nordstrom, some Blu-rays he will like, and some Metal Earth Model set he has been coveting... oh and some Moroccan themed bar ware.

But nothing big yet. The only big ticket he item he asked for was a nice trench coat. CLEARLY I cannot afford a Burberry or something like that, but the mid-range ones seem so cheap!

  • @TwoDimes: It's a cute book.  Small.  The perfect size for a stocking stuffer and has some good stuff inside.  I found it here on Amazon (hope that link works).  It's called "Old Man Drinks: Recipes, Advice, and Barstool Wisdom."

My H is such an old man too.  I know he's going to get a kick out of this book.

  • SO and I gave each other our "big gifts" early.  He wanted a FitBit Force to held keep him motivated with weight loss, so I already gave that to him.  Under the tree, I bought him a new wallet, tie clip and a new pea coat to replace the one he wears with missing buttons.

We set a limit of no more than $250. Black Friday shopping helped me get his gifts for right at $200, so no complaints.
  • I set a limit internally on what I want to spend on BF but we've never really discussed how much we spend on each other. We do set a budget for what we want to spend on our family though.

This year I got BF a Dremel with a whole bunch of accessories because he's starting to get interested in doing some detailed woodworking projects. I also got him a new pair of slippers because he's had his old ones for over five years, they're a size too big, and they are starting to fall apart. For stocking stuffers I got him some new white undershirts, socks, and boxers.

  • I didn't know what to get FI this year.  I got him a wallet with a heavy duty money clip built in.  I noticed his wallet was pretty beat up.  I have no idea what else to get him - he always buys everything he wants!    I keep asking him and he says he doesn't need anything.

FI also keeps asking me what I want - I keep telling him nothing.  We have a wedding to save up for!  I told him I'd consider my e-ring my Christmas gift and he said that it wasn't intended for Christmas.

  • We didn't set a limit this year, but I think we will end up spending roughly the same amount. I want a Kindle Paperwhite, so I'm hoping that's what I'm getting, haha.

I just ordered him a new wallet - but it's like the coolest wallet ever. The dividers inside are made from actual game-used Red Sox uniforms. His wallet is super beat up, so I hope he really likes this :)

  • I got FI a ceramic tea set from Teavana, a Himynameismark shirt and a Himynameismark logo sticker for his bass guitar. I am still looking for one other gift, but I'm not sure what yet. We didn't set a budget, but we both agreed not to go over $100, or much over, anyway.

  • BF and I set a $75 limit for this year, so I had to get creative. I knitted him a dice bag and got him ultra-precise dice for his birthday, so I knew I had to go a different direction for Christmas because how on earth could I top that? I got him Skyrim and Lego Marvel Superheroes for the Xbox 360 and c-Jump, which is a computer programming board game.
  • I got FI the Lego Marvel Heros game for the PS3 and pre ordered him FFXIII Lightning Returns and the strategy guide. I bought him a new electric shaver and his favorite tea. I also bought him this: thebestgiftever...

  • We set a limit of $50. I got him the Fast and Furious 6 movie and this mini punching bag to put on his desk at work (his boss is frustrating haha). I am still $11 under budget, not sure what else I could get him...

  • We didn't set a budget this year.  DH knows he's getting a BIG gift, as a thank you for putting up with my unemployed ass.

    DH is getting:

-The Clapper (It's an inside joke)
-A one year NHL, NFL, NBA, and MLB unlimited sports package on Direct TV.
-A Surface 2 with the new typey keyboard.
  • We first started dating in November two years ago, so when the holidays hit, we were in this awkward phase where we were a couple, but we'd ONLY JUST become one. We agreed not to exchange gifts, but then each ended up getting the other one something small (and, by chance, video game related).

Since then, we've done big gifts for both of us. Last year, we bought a new TV (neither of us had ever even owned a panel TV). I couldn't resist also buying him The Muppets, so I got that for him for Chanukah, and he countered by getting me The Princess Bride (on Blu-Ray, since we'd just gotten a Blu-Ray player).

This year, we bought tickets to see Once when it comes to Boston, so our holiday gift will be going to dinner and then the show in mid-January. But ... he's been whining for AGES about a video game he lost a while back, so I found it on eBay for him. He already admitted he's getting me something small, too, so ... we kind of suck at the whole, "No little gifts!" rule.

  • I got BF the Beats by Dre earbuds with talk control feature for his phone. I'm also getting him and Bean tickets to a couple of geek conventions this year (starting with possibly Awesome Con DC, and then maybe Katsucon). And I will probably get him a GC for Tiger Direct so he can buy some more computer parts. I would buy them myself, but I'd buy all the wrong shit. We're trying to keep it to a minimum this year. With the baby coming in a couple months, we need to focus our funds on baby needs.

  • @Phira - Once was REALLY good.  When I saw it, they had the actors on the stage playing instruments and singing before the actual show started, so get there early!!

  • @Dignity100 VERY good to know!! That sounds like it'll be really awesome!

  • We set a budget of about $300, way too much in my opinion. FI loves Christmas and receiving gifts. I could care less about gifts.

I got FI a PS3 since they are on sale now and he doesn't play the Wii much anymore. Only 1 video game console is allowed in the house, so I'm bringing the Wii to school. Along with the PS3, he got NBA2k14, a box of new business cards, This is the End blu ray and Django blu ray. I totally went over budget.

I have no clue what he's getting me...but it better be good ;-)

  • I got DH five books (two of which he wanted, three of which are surprises), a British flag he wanted, and a created a photo collage of wedding/engagement photos to hang on the wall.

We also do stockings, and I have a lot of fun with those -- we tend to do silly, cheap stuff (last year, I got him a notebook shaped like a beer can). This year, so far, I've gotten him a bi-plane tree ornament, two wooden brain-teaser puzzles, a Dr. Who bookmark, and I'm going to a specialty store to buy him some of the imported chocolates he likes.

He has an XBOX 360, but he usually buys the games for that himself, since I don't really understand how they work. I've finally managed to figure out how to use the controller to access Netflix, though, FTW!

You know what they say when you assume something. @smalfrie19 maybe it was a mutual decision.

Yeah it was a mutual decision. If we were big gamers we would have just gone for the PS4.
