Shoes - fun or traditional..what are you doing?

I got the call that my dress is in!!!  So excited but it was quicker than I expected and I don't have my shoes yet!    I thought shoes would be easy to decide on, no one is going to see them under my dress anyway.   But now I can't decide, should I got traditional neutral color..or something fun like purple shoes?!   I know my mom, Mrs Traditional's jaw will drop if she see's me picking out anything outside her idea of norm, but it's my wedding not hers!   http://www.zappos.com/nina-earleen-eggplant  here is a pair I am thinking of.

  • I was thinking of going with purple shoes too! I haven't found ones that I love yet (I want peep toe). Those are great!
  • this was another possibility I found...a little shorter of a heel, I think they may be more comfy than the other pair. http://www.zappos.com/nina-forbes-gold-royal-satin
  • I love fun shoes that you can wear again!  My mom was all for traditional, and tried to tell me I should wear my shoes to rehearsal or another event.  In the end I wore the green shoes that I loved, and she didn't even care since no one could see them.
  • Here's a picture of the shoes I wore.  Wear whatever makes you happy.

    cute!!
  • I'm a fan of fun shoes. They're a great way to get a little pizzazz even if the rest of your outfit is traditional because no one will see them!
  • I'm wearing plain white wedges for the ceremony (it's in a garden) and blue sparkly stilletos to the reception. My mom thought it was the weirdest thing when I said I was wearing blue shoes, but eventually laughed when I told her it's my "something blue". She said it fits my personality, which was the whole point. :)

  • I got a cute pair of blue suede t strap shoes for my wedding....uhhh HELLO blue suede shoes...you know I am definitely jamming that song at my reception! lol I always wanted blue shoes to wear on my wedding and searched for the perfect pair...the few that have seen these beauties absolutely love them! My best friend said she regretted getting white traditional shoes because she spent so much money and knows she will never wear them again.
  • Get something you'll wear again!

  • Fun shoes are definitely my favorite. I'm trying to find cute peep toe leopard print shoes (leopard print is my "thing" so I need to wear something leopard on my wedding day).

  • getting some nice white or ivory open toe heals for ceremony and for reception i am changing into white or ivory western boots
  • Go fun! I have classic red heels for my ceremony from DSW & sparkly red flats for my reception! My seamstress made sure my dress was hemmed enough so wearing different shows for the reception wouldn't matter!
  • I haven't even though about shoes yet, but I will likely go with something traditional for the ceremony and something with a little more pop for the reception.

Do whatever makes you happy. Whatever your choice is, just make sure it's something comfortable!

I had these for my brother's (I was a BM) and they were horribly uncomfortable. I barely made it through pictures then put on flats.

I'm searching for fun colored ones as well but I'm not sure what color yet. I want them to go with my maids dresses and I haven't picked those yet.

  • I'm going to wear TOMS
  • Fun shoes are definitely my favorite. I'm trying to find cute peep toe leopard print shoes (leopard print is my "thing" so I need to wear something leopard on my wedding day).

My daughter purchased and planned on wearing zebra striped shoes for her wedding.  The black and white striped pattern was her "thing".  Unfortunately, she broke her foot 8 weeks before the wedding.  She was no longer able to wear heels, but was just content to not be in "the boot" for her wedding day.  I love that brides are a little more free to express themselves on their wedding day.
  • I have not thought about shoes yet but I will certainly be buying something I can wear again. I love heels so it seems like a good thing to reuse.

    good to know, thanks!
  • I wanted something completely over the top, and couldn't find anything that felt 'right'. I also wanted a lower heel because I have a hip injury (joy.). I finally came across these at Coach and fell in loooooove...

Oh no!! I'm glad she wasn't in the boot for the wedding day. Did she  wind up wearing something else zebra print?

  • clairekundinger I'll be wearing leopard flats because I am about the same height as my FH. We don't normally care, but I want us to be the same height on the wedding, not me be about half a foot taller!

  • I love the zappos shoes but the reviews lead me to believe that they will be hard and unforgiving in the toe. But that style was EXACTLY what I had been looking for! I am also looking for something in eggplant. I'll let you know if I find anything.

Yeah, reviews aren't great, which worries me about comfort.   SInce zappo's offers free shipping and returns, i think i'll try them out anyway and see how they feel.   My wedding is in May but I want shoes asap so i can try on my dress and am not finding many options at stores near me.
  • OP have you tried looking at shoes on modcloth.com?
  • I'm going with fun blue shoes. And I can definitely wear them again!
