Update on the PPD

Re: Update on the PPD

  • I read on the Wall Street Journal about a new IUD called the Skyla that's marketed toward women who haven't had children.  It's smaller apparently.  Also, a new way of inserting an IUD is being tested.  And this article also said that Obamacare covers the cost of an IUD.  Those things are crazy expensive!

I'm using the diaphragm right now and I really don't like it.  I'd like to get the Implanon or oral BC because although the IUD is ideal, I'm skittish because I know it can be really painful for a while afterwards.

Oh, here's that WSJ article if any of you are interested.  http://online.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424052702303932504579256451740317032
  • Never heard of BC being linked to liver cancer. It doesn't cause cancer anyway. It does increase the risk of blood clots, but it's such a small risk that "twice the risk" is still very tiny. Not to say that it's not a real risk, but obviously, plenty of women are on hormonal BC without getting blood clots.

I'm a huge fan of contraception. Planning around your cycle is good, but it doesn't reduce the chances of pregnancy nearly as well as even condoms do.

  • NFP when used correctly is more reliable than hormonal BC which is more reliable than condoms. The difference is that you also need to abstain even when you may be in the mood.

IUD, best ever! Had NuvaRing prior, it's good, but IUD is better! IMO

  • I 100% recommend implanon. The arm implant. More a tends to... Bother men who are ... Well endowed. My FI got a nasty scratch (ouchie!) AND he managed to dislodge it making it INEFFECTIVE! I had to have it taken out. I am not the only one who this has happened to either :/ Before FI though I LOVED mirena!
@clairekundinger I'm sorry but I'm really really confused by the bolded, especially "more a tends to."  Also, what do you mean by well endowed?  I assume you mean in the family jewels, but I can't see how you could scratch him there with your upper arm?  That would have to be one interesting position!  Or do you mean well endowed as in heavy?
LMFAO! I love auto correct! I did mean Mireana. One of my friends had her mireana fall out. Like she didn't even KNOW! I have no idea how that happens but I know it did. I love being able to feel my arm implant and know its there.

and ya.... it's be a tricky situation now to scratch anyone with my arm implant LMAO
