Re: Momo

  • My cool party rental rep for the wedding was Beck (yeah, I liked her because of her name, but then she was also awesome), and she left the company so I was reassigned to Lynsey really close to my wedding day. Her name, combined with the smiley face in her professional email signature convinced me to call and request a new rep. Thankfully, I recognized the lack of seriousness excessive "y"s in names constitutes, as she was let go a few weeks later, undoubtedly for screwing up a rental or just being stupid and using a smiley in her email sig.

That short story has nothing to do with this post, but I am thanking the sweet baby Jesus in the manger for some interesting mini-drama on the board today. Byn's interpretive salad dance just made me laugh!

OMG. I've always wondered Why TF people name their girls Nevaeh. 2 people in my small town named their girls that last winter. I thought, "what an ugly name". NOW...even worse. Good gracious.

  • I had a randomly placed 'y' in one of the name options for Lil Stack.......Mr Stack quickly told me to get over the trends and think long term.  THANK YOU MR STACK!!!!!  Kendall - spelled Kendyl.  Yea, I don't know.

Glad my daughter has a great name that is up near 100 in the commonly used list.

BUT PLEASE REALIZE I am calling noone stupid for naming their kid the same thing as 6 other future classmates when they start school.

    Because they have no self-esteem.
  • My entire old neighborhood was like that. I never knew one woman's name. They were Aiden's Mommy, Hannah's Mommy, and (my fave!) Maelyn's Mommy. We once went to a birthday party for Maelyn, and her Mommy squeed over the fact that I spelled sweet little Maelyn's name correctly on the card. I didn't have the heart to tell her I just thought of the most fucked up way to spell May Lynn and put it on there.

They hated me in that old neigborhood.
  • Maybe that's it, Heels.  It amazing to me how 90% of my friends who have kids manage to maintain some semblance of their own identity, but that other 10% can't seem to figure it out.  Maybe it is the self esteem thing.

  • I would prefer to be called momo anyway.  As my screen name is indeed stupid but you can't change it once you start so it's stuck.  I am too lazy to come up with something creative.

I have been around for a year and lurk everyday but don't post much unless I have something to say.  Probably a good thing.

Yes, this used to drive me insane.  I HATED my parents growing up because they gave me a normal name with a slightly different spelling (still quite a common name, but not the first way anyone thinks to spell it).

  • Hmm well now that ive caught up, I have to agree that momo has an strange obsession with the word "stupid", I lost count of how many times she used it in the other thread. I also think shes a little dense.

I also y's in names are stupid, unless the y occurs naturally like in holly or something. I also think its stupid though when a name with a natural y is changed to ie - hollie.

  • BEACH - that happened to me all of the time.  I have never found anything with my name on it spelled correctly because my mom thought she was cute by adding an 'e' to the 'y' in my name.  Facebook actually has a group called, " 'ye'  it's not that difficult"

Oh man, it's more like 10% vs. 90% the other way for me.  I hate to say it, but I feel sorry for their husbands.  It's like they got the sperm they needed so they're done with them until they need some more sperm.
