Re: Happy Thursday

  • Again ladies, thanks for the vibes! I just heard from the vet and he's in recovery and doing fine. I can't wait to get him home and snuggle his face off all weekend!

@hummingbird125 pick away! I honestly have no idea what I'm doing, I just listed stuff that was more important and should be done now down to stuff I can hold off until the fall. I haven't used any of the wedding planning timelines that are out there because a lot of the stuff we're not doing, all the extra fluff stuff, so I don't want to be like "well, maybe I should" and then watch my budget poof away.

Also, I went to Hobby Lobby and got a good deal on invites, so I bought them now and will print them out this summer. I have a whole section in my basement now reserved for wedding stuff.

  • @keptinstitches rest up lots and feel better!

It's snowing lots now. I wonder if I should go outside and clean off my car before it gets insane...
  • @buddysmom80 I was in hobby lobby two weeks ago and they had cute invitations unfortunately none of us has a working printer so we will probably order them from somewhere already printed.

  • I would love to get some snow here in the South but it has been pretty mild weather the last couple of days. It feels weird to be back at work after having a week off. We changed a whole bunch of things with our company so I'm learning everything all over again.

H and I bought a new TV stand this past weekend and so he is putting that up today since he doesn't go back to work until the 6th. I'm excited to get home to see what it looks like. Besides that we are just doing CrossFit tonight...back to the normal routine.

2014 is going to be a great year. 2013 was absolutely amazing but I think 2014 is going to bring about so many new changes. Hopefully we will get a house towards the end of the year. I'm so ready to be out of an apartment and just have some space to put everything.

  • @buddysmom80 I was in hobby lobby two weeks ago and they had cute invitations unfortunately none of us has a working printer so we will probably order them from somewhere already printed.

We have a working printer but our back-up plan is that there's a Kinko's walking distance from our house. So if we can't print it at home, then off to Kinko's!

  • I just got back from a whole week with Elle and I'm going through serious withdrawals. It's awful. I'm the only one in my building today, which I like, but it's weird being back here. On my way out of town on Dec 23rd, I told my senior pastor that I'm interviewing for other positions. He took it well, but now he knows and our other associate pastor knows. So I feel a little awkward.

All you engaged ladies, I've got a box of Tolsty IKEA picture frames that @swazzle gave me for my wedding. I want to get rid of them. I'll even pay shipping. I've also got a bajillion red and white gerbera daisies. Let me know if you're interested.

@buddysmom80 I'm so glad to hear the Q man is okay!!

To all of you snowed in, I'm not sure whether to feel bad for you or to be jealous. It's sunshiney and cold, but so fucking windy. It makes the cold cut to your bones and the sunshine is deceptive.

Look at VistaPrint and Groupon! Elle designed my invites off of some that I fell in love with on Wedding Paper Divas and then I used three groupons to get everything we needed for 75 invitations for $50, even magnets.

  • Afternoon ladies! I'm at work today...blaaaaaaah. Woke up with a bloody nose this morning. One of my FAVORITE pregnancy symptoms. It wasn't a gusher, but just a steady trickle like a slightly runny nose. More annoying than anything.

My New Years was beyond exhausting. I stayed up till 4:30 because I thought we were driving home. Well el Senor had a bit too much to drink and we ended up sleeping on the couch at our friend's house (we had to drive seperately as he worked NYE). He slept sitting up so that I could lay down and stretch out. He provided his lap as my pillow. I tossed and turned all night because it wasn't exactly the most comfortable sleeping situation. I finally got up at about 9am, sat around for a bit, and then woke Bean up so we could leave.

Yesterday Bean and I spent all afternoon at the barn loving on Tappy. He had his one last ride with her, and had a blast. After he was done riding, we took off his saddle and I let him walk around on her bareback. Usually he's a 2 laps and done guy, but yesterday he just kept going, and going, and going. He didn't want their ride to end :( Eventually I could see it all over his face, he was getting choked up. So I took them outside so he could be sad in private. He didn't want to cry in front of everyone (even though I told him it was ok and they understood). Then he brushed her off, fed her a thousand mints, and took her to her stall. When it was time to go, he let himself in her stall and just hugged and kissed her for several minutes. He kept tracing the lines of her neck like he was painting her into his memories. Meanwhile I sat there watching and crying. And I'm crying again just thinking about it. On the way home I asked him if he understood why she couldn't stay. He said yes, it was time for her to move on and teach other kids like she taught him. He said he was very sad, but that he loved their years together. We drove home, crying along the way and holding hands.

Last night we watched The Lone Ranger. El Senor kept looking at me, mouthing "THIS IS TERRIBLE!" But he 'suffered' through it because it was what Bean wanted to watch, and he had a bit of a rough day. Personally, I didn't think it was all THAT bad. Movie of the Year? No. Fun and a decent escape for 2 hours? Yep. Tired as I was, I could not fall asleep for the life of me. I finally chugged a glass of milk at midnight and fell into a blissful sleep...where I had weird baby dreams.

  • @beanbot2002 - I am teared up at work for you and your son!  it's never easy to say good-bye to an animal you love, whatever the reason.  I'll be thinking of you all!
  • @beanbot2002 ugh hearing that story makes me so sad. You are such an awesome mother though for letting him have all the feels. Are you guys going to look into getting another horse?

  • @beanbot2002 you're such a good mom. I know it's so sad to have to leave Tappy, especially after the promises that were made to you, but that's what stood out most to me. You love your son and you give him the best opportunities to be who he is.

  • @beanbot2002, aww, how sad for you and Bean. :( It's so hard to let go of such a unique and wonderful friendship, but it sounds like you did everything to let him say goodbye and get the feelings out. Hope your spirits lift very soon!
  • @beanbot2002 It sounds like Bean was really brave. It's so hard to say goodbye to loved ones, and it's almost worse when your loved one is an animal; they don't understand that it's goodbye.

Because of the weather, I knew I wasn't going to try to venture into work today or tomorrow. My partner had to go in today, but his supervisor sent him home around noon, and told him not to come in tomorrow. The university isn't officially closed tomorrow (in fact, most of the schools aren't even closing early TODAY), which is really offensive. There's a parking ban in Boston right now, and the snow is really heavy. There's no pressure from parents to close, since classes haven't started yet, but to me, that's all the more reason to close! Protect your staff! Either way, 3.5 more days of time off with my partner.

We were supposed to mail save-the-dates today ... well, I'm still supposed to do it. I might venture out later tonight in the snow to get to the nearest mailbox.

  • @beanbot2002 - Poor Bean, NOTHING will replace that horse - I owned my own for a year or so when I was 13 but it didn't work out, and it doesn't even compare to the bond I had with the horse that wasn't-mine-but-felt-like-he-was. I've ridden many, many horses since him, but Ace will always be the one who taught me more than every other horse and trainer combined.

  • @buddysmom80 we're not in the best position to afford board right now, plus he's going through so many growth spurts, as soon as a get a small hunter or a junior jumper, he's gonna outgrow the dang thing. So we're gonna continue working with the pony of my trainer's that he's been riding recently, and eventually move him up to one of her bigger horses. We probably won't buy anything until he's about 15/16, and by then it's probably going to be a old/seasoned jumper. He wants to eventually compete in the grand prixs so he'll need something that has been there/done that and can take him through the jumper ranks. Eventually, we want to buy one of my friend's foals. She has this AMAZING stallion named Legaczy (the spelling is weird because he's a warmblood and the registry books for those have requirements, his sire was Alla C'zar so they have to keep the 'cz' in there to show lineage). Anyhow...he's producing HUGE foals (most top out around 17 hh - just what my tall boy will need!) that are turning into fantastic jumpers. We hope to buy as a weanling and have our trainer bring it along with the hopes that Bean is able to make the crossover from Amateur to Pro with this horse. All hopes and dreams right now, but we're putting plans in place to make it happen years down the road.

  • @audrewuh I didn't even think of groupon!!!!! We really liked the cards and pockets idea. Thanks for the idea I'll have to poke around on that this weekend!

  • Good afternoon! I have off until the 6th (I work in a school) so I met a friend to work out this morning. We lifted shoulders and then went to Zumba. I think we had the most intense Zumba instructor ever. She was yelling and barking at us, speeding up fast songs. It was crazy! Now I'm home contemplating a nap....when I really should be packing since I move January 15. Maybe nap for a bit than up and pack. I hate moving!
  • @audrewuh I may be interested in the frames as well, they are real pretty.  If @buddysmom80 isn't interested or she can have them after my wedding too.  They are white correct?

yes ma'am! I've got about a million of them. I can easily send them to you and then you can send them to @buddysmom80! About half of the ones I have aren't even open.

Let me think about this overnight and talk to FI, we haven't decided on things like table decor yet.

Also I'll only take them if @buddymom80 is ok with me getting them first and I will ship them to you in July sometime if that is ok....

  • @beanbot2002 - I just teared up majorly with your story.  You must be so proud of Bean...he sounds like a damn amazing kid.
  • @hummingbird125 I hope so! We contacted our current school (my partner works there and I'm a grad student) and it was WAY out of our budget.

  • @Peaseblossom55 - I need to start working out again too!!  I have a long way to go to get in shape.

@Imhollister - I looked at a few dresses on Tuesday and I'm going again tomorrow and Sat (weather depending).  I liked one at David's Bridal (last one on clearance of course) so I'm going to see if I like anything better and go from there.  I've got until October to figure out this dress thing.  Good luck!!  Look on eBay or even Craigslist to see if you can find a used phone that will get you through for awhile longer.

@TwoDimes - I went to college in a small town and I LOVED it.  I barely drove anywhere.  Everybody knew each other and looked out for each other.  Sure if you're going to the 'big city' you just have to plan for it - it just seems like it was so much less stressful!!  I miss it!

@500Days - I would LOVE to go to Alaska someday when I have more vacation (same with FI) - I want to do the 14-day rail & sea tour.  I actually looked into moving there (sight unseen) when I was on the chopping block to be laid off!

@buddysmom80 - Many dogs live fine with heart murmurs.  You just have to watch it.  If you want to pursue it, ask for a cardio vet referral as they have a better trained ear.  Did they say what grade the murmur was (there are 4 stages of heart murmurs).  Another idea depending on where you live is going to a university vet clinic - usually they have all the specialty vets on staff.  With my cancer dog they only charged me $25 to see the oncologist vets.

@Beanbot202 - I admit, I teared up reading your post.

UHG - what a day!!  So my ABS/Traction control has been broke on my car.  So the part came in to get it fixed.  I called the dealer and they said 'sure come on in - it's a snow storm we've had a ton of cancellations!' So I went - left at 10:00 to a place that normally takes me just shy of 20 minutes to get to and I got there at 10:37 going no more than 40mph the whole way (yay sn*w! <sarcastic>). They get me signed in and say 'ok work should take 2-2 1/2 hours.  They come to me at around 1:30 and say 'Well we fixed the broken part and took it for a test drive -the light went off but it came back on and now this is wrong with it - if it's what we think it is, it'll be an additional $100 to fix - should we diagnose' I say 'sure' now at 3:00 they come to me and say 'we found it, it was a broken wire as we suspected, do you want us to go ahead with the repair' my reply 'I've waited this long, go for it'.  I get home around 4:00 after a day of sitting in the waiting room at the dealership, sit down to relax.  Around 6:30 I notice my furnace blower is kicking on but the pilot is not 'clicking' to turn on.  So I look at my thermostat thing and my house is at 63 when I keep it at 66.  I call my dad and say 'is there something I can try, I've tried shutting the thing off and turning it back on' I take pictures of my furnace's guts and send it to him and he's like 'I'm not sure - I'll come down'.  I told him not to because the lovely snow storm we're in but my dad's more stubborn than I am.  So they're on their way - I cleaned off my driveway for them (I was going to put that off until morning.  I have a space heater going that's pretty much keeping the house at 62.  GAH why can't think just WORK?!

    Sorry for the long post!
