How was your weekend?

Mine was pretty good, busy and a bit confusing.  I auditioned for two shows one I called back for the lead and didn't get the other I got cast in but I am not sure I want to do the show or not.  FI and I began our registry at Bed Bath and Beyond, it was a lot of fun.  I love our china pattern it's the Wedgewood Ballet Ribbon.

Other than that FI & I stayed in, it was pretty cold.  We played some board games this weekend, he always beats in me in Scrabble no matter how hard I try or how close I come.

Did anyone have an exciting weekend? Hopefully it wasn't too cold.  It's warm today but it's supposed to be real cold again tomorrow :-(

Re: How was your weekend?

  • Hiya. @peaseblossom55 That is cute that you two play games. H and I don't really do that.

My weekend was alright. We took down Christmas stuff. Finally bought storage bins to store all of that junk in, but of course grabbed the wrong lid. So I gotta go back to Target and exchange them.

I also ordered a duvet from West Elm that I'm way excited about. This one: Grey Medallion Duvet

My grandfather is in the hospital and not doing well. (He has pneumonia). My dad and sister flew up to be with him and my family. :(

I've got my mind set on getting my hair cut soon. I just wish I could locate a picture of what I want. I spent a lot of time browsing pics on the internet, but nothing stood out.

  • My weekend wasn't especially excited.

Friday FI and I had a date night. We went out for dinner and then go tickets to see Saving Mr. Banks. We both loved the movie! I thought it started out a little slow but the end was wonderful!

Saturday we did not leave the house at all. I seriously needed a day like that. We relaxed together all morning and then FI spent the afternoon in the garage working on building a stand for our washer and dryer. I stayed inside and organized. We haven't been home a lot because of the holidays and everything was out of order so I spent a lot of time just going from room to room and putting everything back in it's place. I also started a pile to go to Goodwill. This week I am going to focus on going through my books and clothes and shoes and find a bunch of stuff to donate.

Sunday I went with @southernpeach89 and my mom to the GA Bridal Expo. It was ok. I think it's more for people who haven't found a vendor yet or who are in the very very very initial stages of planning. I think I said no about 50 gazillion times and was the least favorite bride there because I wouldn't give anyone my information. But honestly, I have zero interest in getting a bunch of spam email and junk mail from all of these people plus whoever they decide to sell my information too. I did take a card from a stationary company. My sister and the woman who started the company are sorority sisters so I figured she at least was legitimate.

Afterwards, I picked up FI and went back to my parent's house. We had dinner and then it was FINALLY TIME FOR DOWNTON ABBEY!!! I friggen love that show. I'm soooo glad the season has started. Now I can get my Sunday evening fix until the end of February then it's back to waiting for forever for the next season to start.

  • @tuarceatha board games are fun.  I'm so sorry to hear about your grandfather I hope he gets better!

  • I have been feeling so off for the past week or so. I don't know if it's sickness or something else but I don't like it.

Friday night H went to the farm so I stayed home alone and watched stupid movies and ate sushi. I went to CrossFit so that felt good to get in a workout before the weekend.

Saturday I cleaned, ran some errands, and just got a lot of things done. I didn't get everything done so that's getting pushed until next weekend which annoys me beyond belief. H came home that night so I made Baked Spaghetti. We wanted to eat the whole thing in one sitting.

Sunday I went to a bridal expo with @lmhollister. I found it quite hilarious because the people there were insane. They would not leave you alone and I kind of wanted to punch them. After that we did some shopping and grabbed a quick snack at this yummy restaurant called The Salt Factory. That night we just watched football and chilled. It was a nice weekend.

  • This weekend I was SICK.

Friday I woke up at 4am, took one look outside and decided to call out sick. I went back to sleep and FI decided to call out sick too. We got dressed and headed to the vet to pick Quigley up from his neutering appt/teeth cleaning. I was so happy to see him, I missed him terribly. We brought him home and he ran around like he wasn't even sick. The last time one of our dogs had anesthesia, they had a bad reaction to it, my mom's old Golden had his teeth cleaned and was groggy for days, throwing up, etc but Quigley is 100% normal. It's so weird. We have to bring him back on the 27th since the vet wants to check his heart again (he had a heart murmur before his surgery, xray showed no evidence of swelling of the heart or edema so that's good, just have to monitor it)

Friday night I laid in bed. Same with Saturday and Sunday. My weekend was SO exciting! I did watch Breaking Bad and The Office on Netflix and some crappy reality TV so all in all, it was a good weekend.

@lmhollister my friend wants to take me to one of those bridal shows, but I flat-out said NO. I told her we don't have the budget for "extras" and seeing all that stuff will make me sad.

  • Friday night - went to try on dresses during the day - didn't love anything - and FI had poker in the evening, so I just stayed home and chilled.

Saturday - Went to another dress shop (this one was supposed to be a discount store).  I didn't really love anything there.  The only thing I'm finding is that I do love a really dramatic skirt.  Went to dinner with FI, FI's Bro & FI's Bro's GF (who has become a pretty good friend of mine).

Sunday - Ran a few errands.  Went to FI's parents house to help them with their internet that's been flakey.  It's on their Service Provider's side though, but we got it figured out.  On our way home we helped a lady out who had fallen in her driveway and couldn't get up.

Now just trying to stay warm for the next few days!!

  • The weekend was yucky weather, but a lot of fun. After working from home Thursday and Friday, Saturday the boy and I visited a winery, went out to dinner and saw Secret Life of Walter Mitty. First of all, the winery sucked. The tasting was rushed (and only 5 wines). The lady didn't really talk about any of the wines or what made them special. They didn't serve food and they were bottling when they were supposed to be doing cellar tours so we couldn't do the tour.

Dinner was great. Went out to Hibachi and that's always a fun time. If you've thought about seeing Secret Life, do it! I was a bit skeptical before and like 30 minutes in, but it quickly gets good and for my FI the camera and video nerd, it was a great mix for both of us.

Sunday we both were feeling icky and I was down since FI had to go to his mason's lodge in themorning for a few hours. So even though my birthday is the 14th, he took me out for an early birthday present, Build a Bear!

(Yes he has a lightsaber. It actually does light up.)

  • @buddysmom80 Honestly there isn't anything there to miss out on. It was mostly photographers/videographers/venues plus a few caterers and bakers. Savvi Formalwear, David's Bridal, and some other bridal design companies were also represented. I think that was the ONLY worthwhile part about the whole thing. Allure Bridal/Savvi did a big "inspiration studio" thing where you walked through and they had different set ups for vintage, classic, formal, shabby chic, etc. with a table scape, a couple of dresses and suits that fit the theme, and some decor so you could see an entire theme executed. Plus each dress was marked with the style number and price (which I was a fan of) and there were people at each station to answer questions. That booth especially hated me because I wouldn't fill out their form or let them make notes on it and I wouldn't give them the carbon copy to enter me in their prize drawing. They just didn't understand why I wouldn't just hand over my address/phone number/email address/my full name/FI's full name/my life story/etcetc.

  • @Imhollister and @buddysmom80, next month, I'm headed to a bridal fashion show that's in my work town. It's solely the fashion show and champagne so hopefully not as annoying as what I've heard the big expos are like!

  • @TwoDimes - H and I go grocery shopping on Friday afternoons or evenings most of the time because it is so quiet!  we normally get groceries, go out somewhere for dinner, and then watch a movie or something the rest of the evening.  I love our Friday nights!

let's see, this weekend wasn't anything exciting.  H and I had our first double workout for Insanity on Saturday, and that wasn't fun.  I laid around a lot and caught up on sleep.  H ran up to our favorite coffee shop and picked us up a decaf-whole milk mocha and some sweet treats, so that was fun!  Sunday we just went to church, napped, read books, and had a quiet afternoon.  just what I needed after so much holiday busyness!

we decided that we're going to push off our Charleston trip for 2014 until probably 2016.  WAH.  I am disappointed, but it's our turn to go to Thanksgiving with his family in NM this year plus his younger brother is graduation high school in May, so we'll go to that.  add that to trying to pay off the student loans in the next 12-16 months and possibly adding in a baby in the next 12-16 months...  we just couldn't do/afford it all.  so maybe for our 5-year anniversary we'll make it to Charleston.

since we decided to cross off Charleston, I am making our trip to NM for Thanksgiving into a fun vacation.  for only $500-$600 more, we're going to go spend a few days in Santa Fe and Ruidoso...  so we'll have a vacation after all (YES!), just on the opposite side of the country.

this is the best way that we both get what we want and still make time/money for H's family stuff.  I want a vacation, and not to just drive 11 hours to sit on his mom's couch for a week.  H wants to see his family.  so, we'll make it work!  I'm already researching little B&Bs and fun hotels to stay at...  and some places are already booked up for Thanksgiving week, especially the little cabins in the woods.  so I'm glad we decided early to go...  we can book some fun places to stay.  there is one place in Ruidoso that has a sauna built into a giant whiskey barrel...  how cool is that?!?!?

I did not sleep well last night.  I haven't been sleeping well lately...  this happens a lot in the winter for me.  so I am glad we only have the Insanity fit test today instead of a big workout.  I also need to scrub the floors in the kitchen and dining room, but I DOUBT that gets done today!
  • @Kait That sounds like fun! They had a fashion show too but it was during the last hour of the event and we weren't about to wait around 4 hours just for that. No thank you! We were there for maybe 2 hours max and that was more than enough.

  • My weekend was pretty lazy. FI is sick with a bad cold/sinus infection thing, so I've been taking care of him. We pretty much stayed in and watched movies and Friday Night Lights all weekend, though I did make it to the gym yesterday.

WR Vent: I was on the phone with my mom yesterday, who mentioned that my grandpa asked where I was registered. I've been engaged for less than two weeks! She also asked if I wanted an engagement party (I politely declined). She said my grandpa's sisters are probably asking him for all of this info so that they can buy me gifts - I have no recollection of ever meeting these people, and told her that people only usually buy gifts if they're actually invited to the wedding. She replied "Well, of course you have to invite his sisters. They probably won't come, but they'll send gifts." Sigh. The thing is - although I've been looking at venues online, I am no where near ready to actually start planning a wedding because I don't have a full time job! I literally don't know how I'll be paying my rent 6 weeks from now, without dipping into savings, because that's when my unemployment runs out. Part of me wants to be like "Mom, unless you and/or grandpa are planning on paying for the whole thing, the kind of wedding you two are envisioning just ain't happening." I literally have no idea what, if anything, they'd like to help out with, so I've been going with the assumption that FI and myself will be handling everything ourselves - which means no wedding planning for several months at least. We're supposed to go out with my mom and stepdad for my birthday in a couple of weeks, so I hope we talk wedding stuff then and I can figure out what she's thinking....

@tuarceatha, sorry to hear your grandfather is not doing well. *hugs*
@peaseblossom55, which show are you maybe gonna be in??? I love plays and musicals but never get to see any; you gotta give me some recommendations to look out for near me.

This weekend was bore-tastic. I can't even remember what I did on Friday. Saturday I worked eight hours and then went to my friend's RPG. That was actually pretty amusing but I was pretty tired by 9 o'clock and had to call it a night. Sunday I worked twelve hours. Even work this weekend was not exciting and it has been CRAZY the last few months. Ugh. But at least I got a lot of studying done for my winter class. It's going to be pretty easy, but it will be moving rather fast.
  • @Hummingbird125 - I feel your pain.  wedding planning was the PITS.

last week, I bought a new glass coffee tumbler that exploded/shattered in my hands.  I got my money back from Target, but had emailed the company to let them know what happened.  I wasn't expecting to receive a reply, but this morning I had an email from a customer service rep asking for my address... they are going to send me several of their most popular products to try out!  I am pretty excited, just praying that none of these shatter when I'm holding them, too.
  • @tuarceatha - I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. You and your family are in my thoughts.

Slow return to vertical was the order of the weekend. Don't get the flu, it really sucks. A little bit of knitting. A little bit of this. A little bit of that. Football. I went 2-2 on my picks this weekend, but no one in the pool set the world on fire. I'm 3 games back, so technically not mathematically eliminated yet...

Workplace tossed it in today, so I'm working on my class at home. It's so cold, so very very cold.
  • @amapola14 I'm supposed to be in the musical Young Frankenstein

    Anniversary

  • @KeptInStitches - I am trying my hardest to stay away from the flu, but I am worried about my students returning this week with all their little germies.  just found out my friends 11 month old baby just got home from the doctor and has the flu!!  poor little guy...  it seems like a really bad year.
  • @peaseblossom55 That's awesome! FI and I went to see a production of Young Frankensteinlast winter I think and we loved it! I'm sure you'll be great!

  • My weekend was all right. Saturday, I had a massage appointment. My awesome massage therapist figured out what was causing my hip pain, so now I can do stretches to loosen up the muscles involved. After that, I grabbed lunch with a friend of mine, and then I mailed the save-the-dates (aaah). When I got home, my partner and I worked on the wedding website, since the information for the site is on the save-the-dates and we hadn't really put very much up (or edited anything).

Sunday, I slept waaaaaay in (not a good thing--my sleep schedule is a wreck). We went to my future brother- and sister-in-law's place to hang out, play video games, and eat dinner (mmm sushi). We did a LOT of video games this weekend, which is fine for me, but my partner didn't get a LOT of stuff done he was supposed to do this weekend.

There is a weird smell in our apartment and we cannot figure out where it's coming from. We're thinking it might be all the salt we've dragged in from the sidewalks.

  • Holy crap @tuarceatha, I just saw your post, sending you a huge hug!!! :(

@hummingbird125, future MIL asked if we had a registry yet since family in Poland wanted to send gifts. I was like "we have no time for a registry!" but she insisted. Google mine, it's hilarious because there's literally two things on it right now that I know we need. Everything else we'll register for in the spring. Also, hammering out the budget was the hardest thing. We did our budget based on what we could afford and it was a lot higher than what I was expecting. We're going to have to make some cuts on fun shit, but it'll be worth it in the end. My parents gave us a check when we went out to dinner with them last month, but we put that away since we are managing fine with our money and they basically told us we could do whatever we wanted with the check. Hello, honeymoon!

@kait that fashion show sounds fun just for the fact that champagne is involved. I'm trying to put off dress shopping, looking at dresses, etc towards the end since I hate how I look right now and the dresses I think I would love, I'll end up looking like the marshmallow fluff guy from Ghostbusters.

  • @buddysmom - we were only engaged for 8 months, and we did our registry maybe about 6 months out?  anyway, quite a few things at Target were discontinued the month before the wedding so we had to re-register for a bunch of stuff!  ah!!!  so it's a good idea to wait until spring for things that might get discontinued.

and, any ideas for your HM???

That's exactly why we're waiting for some stuff. My friend registered right after she got engaged and was pissed that after a year things were getting discontinued.

We're going to Negril for our HM. We're leaving towards Couples Swept Away but we have so much time to plan where we're going that I might wait until I get back from Europe in March to start focusing on another vacation.

  • It was my last weekend before back to work so I was trying to do as little as possible! Saturday I got up and worked out, took my pup for a walk. After I showered I cleaned my apartment since the landlord was going to start showing this week. I grocery shopped. Nothing too exciting. I got a text from my landlord that there would be a showing Sunday but she didn't know what time. So I spent all of Sunday waiting around to leave. And never heard anything from them. I have a feeling the next 10 days until I move are going to be very annoying! I've never lived somewhere that was being shown before. I can't wait to move!

I absolutely will post pictures. Europe seems so far away, but we're leaving on March 17th. I think I'm more excited about the Pergo floors being installed the days before we leave. It won't hit me until my parents show up (my mom is going to Europe with me and my dad is helping FI install the floors).
