Chit Chat

So this is where we chit and chat?

I was told to come here if I wanted to make small talk.

What is everyone reading?  I'm reading Gone Girl.  I know, I know.  I'm way behind on this one.

  • Those are great books.  I want to reread them because I just saw Catching Fire and I didn't remember anything.

The Giver was one of my favorite books when I was younger! My class went on a field trip to a book reading/signing for Louis Lowery and after she teased me with the first chapter I had to buy it!

ETA I just remembered I bought it for FI's son and he never read it. I may have to go find it and reread it!

  • I just finished a Time to Kill and need a new books.

Also, I was very underwhelmed by the dresses at the golden globes. J-Law, I expected better.

  • I LOVE a Time to Kill, I read that one a few years ago. Well I lost my Nook somewhere in the apartment, but I was last reading the Jodi Arias book. I'm really into true crime stuff. I hope I find it soon, because I need to get back to my reading!

I love J-Law, but I have no idea what she was wearing....

  • I just read Gone Girl a few months ago. It was good.
  • I'm not a reader, I actually detest reading and never even stepped foot in my college library (yet still graduated). But one of my friends just wrote and published a book about his times as a US Army Ranger special ops medic over in Iraq & Afghanistan. So out of respect for him and all he's done for this country I bought the book and haven't started reading it yet but I swear I will LOL

  • I just finished reading Inferno by Dan Brown. I need some new books or I am going to be tempted to go back and read the entire Harry Potter series for the 10th time.

And I agree about the dresses.  What a yawn.  And J-Law, time to move on from the white gown...been there done that.

    You are a Potter fan?

I have read the books so. many. times.  I love them so much.

    Have you been to TWWOHP?

  • I just finished I Am Malala this weekend and loved it! I posted a week ago or so, asking for book recommendations and got a ton of responses (thanks!) so I'm going to sift through that soon.

Most definitely!  I actually went to Harry Potter World for my bachelorette party.  I can't wait for the new section of Diagonal Alley to open up in the other portion of Universal.

I even went to see the last HP movie at midnight the day before my wedding.  There was no way in hell I would have been able to wait until I got back from our honeymoon.

    That's an awesome bachelorette party.

I have an annual pass to Universal because of HP.  And because my sister lives there....

Oh, the new section will be magical.  I cannot wait.

  • I'm reading "Longbourn," by Jo Baker. It's a new novel about the servant who work at the  house in Pride and Prejudice. It's not a particularly good book, but I've read enough that I'm invested in the characters and need to see how it ends. Which is pretty irrational, since they're made up.
  • I'm reading Shooting Scars (the second book in The Artists Trilogy, after Sins & Needles) by Karina Halle. It's a little darker, involving drug lords and extortion (and tattooing, as per the titles). I'm really enjoying it -- especially the steamier scenes! haha

  • slowly working on a couple books. Lately my reading is limited to knot forums, etiquette hell, motherinlawstories, and the notalwaysright sites.....yeah, I'm that girl.
  • I'm making my way through novels by Louise Erdrich. Right now I'm on "the painted drum". But I'm constantly sidetracked by the knot.
  • I hated Gone Girl.  I didn't mind the beginning but by the end I wanted to punch a wall.  I just finished the last Tom Clancy on vacation and I'm super sad that there will be no more Jack Ryan novels to entertain me.  He was a fantastic author.

When does the new section of HP World open??  I've never been, but hopefully will be back in Florida again in April.  If I have a free day, I'd like to go

She was wearing a comforter with a black belt.

  • I love, love, LOVE Harry Potter. I've read the entire series probably 18+ times. 'The Giver,' and also 'To Number the Stars,' (both by Lois Lowry), were defining books in my childhood. I am currently reading 'The Arsenic Century' and 'The Disappearing Spoon,' both books about chemistry and history combined.

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • @HisGirlFriday I really enjoy books that combine history and science; just sent samples of both of those to my kindle. Just finished the Song of Ice and Fire series and was looking for a change of pace.
  • I am currently reading a non-fiction work: Sex and World Peace.  It examines violence/aggression against women within a culture, using that as a barometer for how aggressive that culture will be in international politics.  It is a heart wrenching, but interesting read.

Next up will be The Ocean at the End of the Lane and The Book Thief.  The latter I am reading with my kiddo, aka monkey, who is finally getting old enough to enjoy some awesome books!  She read the whole Harry Potter series, and is starting on the Lois Lowry trilogy.  She read Gathering Blue first, and is saving The Giver for last.

  • RWS2011 The Ocean at the End of the Lane was excellent.
  • @DragonBlood13 I hate reading books after the movie is out.  It is just a weird quirk of mine.  It had been over a year since I read Catching Fire and couldn't remember the details, either.  So, I tried to check out the ebook from the library and had to wait in a queue, of course.  I finally got the book the day before we had planned to see the movie.  I was finishing the last paragraphs as we pulled into the parking lot of the theater!

@jdluvr06 Thanks!  I figured I couldn't go wrong with Neil Gaiman.  It was my birthday this last weekend and a close friend got me 3 kindle books, including that one, Bee Season, and Neuromancer.

  • I just read Starcrossed, Good Omens, and My Man Jeeves in quick succession, and am currently re-reading A Hat Full of Sky and also reading The Salem Witch Society (which is my "bathroom" book). I'll read pretty much anything...

  • I'm reading financial books because I'm trying to start budgeting for H and I.  Right now, I'm reading "Financial Peace" by Dave Ramsey.   It's pretty good although I have a few issues with it.

I am reading The Book Thief by  Markus Zusak, which is obviously late since they have turned it into a movie but yeah I am enriching my mind through the written word nonetheless.
